  1. it's so weird to me hwo a guy like this ends up in a trade at all (like, "we'll only do this trade if you throw in 23 year old mediocre A baller RASHAD CRAWFORD), but then i guess i probably would've thought the same about josh donaldson 8 years ago.
  2. Multiple national baseball journalists reporting the deal has been completed isn't news? and the two posts below yours were rightly questioning whether any of these are actually reporting a done deal or just piggybacking on others reporting the same info everyone has had without any indication that it's final. yeah it seems like that's all it is for now
  3. the people running with trying to gotcha theo on character as the narrative are going to be annoying 1 - making an exception would not mean it isn't still an important factor to them 2 - i think they've mostly discussed character in the sense of looking for it in the amateurs/prospect insomuch as it affects baseball...work ethic and crap like that and how likely they are to reach their potential as a result. bernstein already has some column up about how this is some paradigm shifting move and theo was lying about caring about character
  4. i cant tell if that's an actual report or it's next level piggybacking
  5. sheehan is underrated as a dumbass. he loves to pick issues and just harp on them forever. lately his fav is that schwarber is completely incapable of playing any defensive position and probably can't hit anyway. He's the same guy who wanted to be the Cubs contrarian going into this season based on the plexiglass crap, right? I always confuse him with another guy, so I'm not positive.
  6. I'm not sure why we wouldn't pay that.
  7. if steinbrenner approved, and everything else has been agreed on, it seems like that has to be the hold up at this point. It's Sharma that keeps shooting down the extension idea though, right? Yeah.
  8. i really think the 4-for-1 is assuming extension, and if that can't be reached it'll look more palatable from our end i'm not sweating it, but i'll be fairly surprised if it plays out differently if steinbrenner approved, and everything else has been agreed on, it seems like that has to be the hold up at this point.
  9. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=30&type=3&season=2016&month=0&season1=2016&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 Yeah, that list loses a bit of credibility when you realize that the pitcher we're acquiring supposedly isn't as good as Sam Dyson and his 6.75 K/9 this year. Not to mention 36 year old Brad Ziegler who was just acquired for 2 low level minor leaguers no one has ever heard of before. Do you pick apart WAR and UZR this way? These types of stats are obviously not perfect. That doesn't mean they aren't generally good at what they're intended to do. Knowing he is every bit as dominant as that suggests, getting to 14th on that list in the amount of innings he has is *probably* really damn good.
  10. a 7.5 game lead in late july by the clearly better team isn't insurmountable, but 6% isn't nothing, either.
  11. also being a barely above average regular for 2 seasons isn't that valuable. these WAR type valuations aren't perfect. it's not htat hard to come by that type of player for a franchise who can develop (and spend) the way we can. elite play takes massive precedence. I totally understand that Chapman is really good at what he does. But I don't think I'd call 25 innings of work 'elite play'. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=30&type=3&season=2016&month=0&season1=2016&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0
  12. Well Matt Murton gave us 5.2 WAR in his (roughly) two seasons of at bats here at the league minimum, so if Mckinney got anywhere close to that, it's probably not a good idea to trade him for about 30 innings of relief pitching. I said if he became that, it'd be worthy of a parade. Meaning I think it's very unlikely he becomes that. also being a barely above average regular for 2 seasons isn't that valuable. these WAR type valuations aren't perfect. it's not htat hard to come by that type of player for a franchise who can develop (and spend) the way we can. elite play takes massive precedence.
  13. if the point they're trying to illustrate is that there are a ton of situations that can and will happen where upgrading from, say, strop to chapman won't make a difference, they're right. but horsefeathers it.
  14. No way. is this Dave Cameron? If there's even a modicum of seriousness in his question, I might be more confused than I am about Theo going all in on a rental when we've got a playoff berth locked up.
  15. If McKinney turned out to be Matt Murton, it'd be worthy of a parade. Warren has been a disaster. Recency matters a lot. 16. holy horsefeathering horsefeathers NO what the hell man
  17. And they're Warren and McKinney...so pretty much true? Mckinney doesn't turn 22 for another month and has shown success (last year) at AA. Warren is 35 major league innings removed from a 2 WAR season with 2 more years of team control. It's not Jimenez, but it's nothing considering 48 hours ago most people didn't want to trade Torres for Chapman straight up. If McKinney turned out to be Matt Murton, it'd be worthy of a parade. 18. i have no idea what it is, but damn. horsefeathers pitchers.
  19. the "reliever" generality kind of goes out the window with this particular reliever. but the rest is true. but this is what the market is. i'd personally rather we abstain altogether but i'm not gonna complain when chapman is out there incinerating hitters/innings.
  20. Well, yeah, on that end of it, if McKinney is the 3rd piece (not that we know that to be true) then you can be pretty safe in feeling the 4th is a complete nothing. Unfortunately, I feel like that's what was being said for the 2nd (and 3rd) piece. And they're Warren and McKinney...so pretty much true?

  22. well, there was that rizzo/chapman incident i guess.
