  2. i realize what you were doing there but the fact that those are two absolute extreme defensive wizards it makes it kinda have the opposite effect for me Has Russell really been a wizard in the field this season? http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=ss&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=y&type=1&season=2017&month=0&season1=2017&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=10,d 2nd in baseball in DRS in far fewer innings than simmons (the leader) UZR isn't as high on him this year. only 6th in UZR/150

  11. CHANGE THE THREAD TITLE RIGHT NOW YOU IMBECILE
  12. what the horsefeathers is up with all the warning track flies the past two nights i guess that's what happens when a good lineup faces terrible pitchers in a small park
  13. I think people forget just how good a defensive 3B he was. He had some excellent seasons offensively, but he always was a very good defensive player before we had good metrics for measuring defense. I'm still angry the Phillies traded him to the Cardinals... Yeah, Rolen was the standard for 3B defense before Beltre. The Cardinals getting both him and Edmonds at that time was insane. Meanwhile the Cubs were passing on Beltran to subsequently acquire Pierre, Jones, Bradley, Fukudome and whoever else to do the same job. the lack of a serious pursuit of beltran after 2004 was one of my biggest cubs offseason disappointments ever
  14. I think people forget just how good a defensive 3B he was. He had some excellent seasons offensively, but he always was a very good defensive player before we had good metrics for measuring defense. I'm still angry the Phillies traded him to the Cardinals... yeah, i remember us being in those trade rumors with rolen when he was with the phillies too
  15. starting a would-be rally with 2 outs is one of my bigger baseball pet peeves except when they work obviously
  16. Didn't Soriano actually turn himself into a pretty decent fielder after Sveum and co came in and actually, you know, started coaching him to play the position? nah not really. had a positive fielding year one year but prob just the random variance of defensive metrics was better in 07 and 08
  17. i knew scott rolen was really really damn good (like a 4-6 win a year guy), but i'd have not guessed he had a 9 WAR season (in only 142 games too)
  18. just out of pure boredom it occurred to me to see how starlin was doing and then to see how he was doing since the yankees played us and he had those crazy good numbers .277/.313./.426 .313 wOBA 93 wRC+ in 208 PA so, kinda normal starlin castro numbers still a very good .307/.344/.472 .346 wOBA and 116 wRC+ in 337 PA overall
  19. If you aren't good enough to contend, and have no terrific path to get there, then isn't that all the justification you need to blow things up? i don't think nba hell really exists in baseball because the playoffs are the exact opposite of the nba. anyone who gets in can win. that said, if the cardinals aren't even good enough to be in serious competition for one of two wild cards (right now they have 29% playoff odds, 19% of which is for a wild card spot - so, lol at that other 10% or so), then yeah, i'd say blow it up but it's not like it's hard for them to get where they are now to being a solid wild card bet going forward. that said, yeah, i guess with the cubs projecting to varying degrees of juggernaut for the next few years, capping your hopes of contention at a wild card game is sort of hellish.

  22. Da Bears Brothers‏ @DaBearsBros 3m3 minutes ago Trubisky to Shaheen for a #Bears touchdown. Da Bears Brothers‏ @DaBearsBros 1m1 minute ago Right now: Bryce Callahan is lining up as the CB2. Da Bears Brothers‏ @DaBearsBros 3m3 minutes ago Glennon had a wide open Wheaton down field but opted for the check down to the fullback. Sigh. Chris Emma‏Verified account @CEmma670 2m2 minutes ago Adam Shaheen's size is as advertised. Development is needed but he's going to be a big target. Bob LeGere‏ @BobLeGere 2m2 minutes ago #Bears rookie QB Mitch Trubisky ends 11-on-11 possession by threading the needle on a deep middle route to rookie TE Adam Shaheen. Da Bears Brothers‏ @DaBearsBros 3m3 minutes ago #Bears just ran a tight end screen to Shaheen. Yes please! Da Bears Brothers‏ @DaBearsBros 2m2 minutes ago Trubisky continues to impress. Just had the perfect throw over the defenders on a shallow cross. Adam Hoge‏Verified account @AdamHoge 46s46 seconds ago Trubisky with a "wow" throw, flicking his wrist on the run and delivering a 15-yard laser to Braverman. START TRUBISKY!!!
