  1. No, I don't think he would have made it. It wasn't particularly close. Great first pitch outs morons. You're right. It's still a really stupid move, though. Great... Castillo HR, and the opposition strikes first, yet again.
  2. These are the Cubs we know. What's that, 2, 3 pitches? 2 outs. EDIT - make that 3 outs.. on 4 pitches.. WTH IS WRONG WITH THEM??? :x
  3. Think he might've made it if he hadn't tried to dive into first?
  4. Well, I do see your point. But I think the responsibility of ownership is basically to provide a nice payroll, and to hire someone competent to run the baseball team. Now, I can't and won't defend those signings. But I think most people would say that, overall, Hendry has done a good job running the Cubs. Others think that he hasn't, and they certainly can bring up valid points to back it up. But they have a guy, who in most baseball circles, would be considered successful. So to me, that shows that the ownership isn't a problem for this team. I think they've held up their end of the deal. Yeah, I understand what ya'll are talking abou the ownership. I just kept thinking that the GM position is part of the ownership, or at least a share, but I got that mixed up. There's nothing I can do about the signings. However, as a fan, the majority of the signings I won't complain too much. It's just that I don't see a logical reason to keep Macias, Wilson (before he was gone), and some others. I agree that JH has done a good job running the Cubs. Believe me, it could have been worse, like the GM for the Mets that one time before he got canned (Can't remember his name, but IIRC, he hasn't gotten any offers since he got canned.) I'm not sure if you're referring to Ed Lynch, former Cubs GM who, I believe, played and may have worked in the front office with the Mets, or Steve Phillips, former Mets GM. I'm guessing it's one of the two though... Speaking of Ed Lynch, I remember him being retained after his firing (er, demotion, I guess) as a scout or something. Anyone know if he is still in the organization?
  5. My dream scenario... Cuban buys the team and hires Billy Beane as GM. With Theo Epstein (despite all the naysayers who have ridiculed him at times) we've all seen what an intelligent, numbers-savvy GM can do with a really high payroll. And we really don't need that many pieces to be a dominant team. We've got a good foundation, IMHO.
  6. Don't most gloves have this? Mine does, and it's an outfielder's glove.
  7. ahhhh... tying run at the plate... 'tis ok.. I feel good about it. I'm actually confident in save situations with Demp out there.
  8. Bringing in Borowski with the bases loaded today after Rich Hill's walk. DUSTY.. WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING??????    I'm sorry... at times (more often than not, actually) the man is a complete imbecile.
  9. He said he'd be ready to go for "the game on Tuesday." I guess somebody should tell him that they're playing Wednesday..
  10. So do I... :D :D :D :D 8) \:D/ \:D/ \:D/
  11. It's a big game... would you expect anything less?? :D
  12. Sweet, have fun!
  13. They started winning in mid-December... after about a 4-15 start is more or less when the light switched on. They only got better as the season went on, and have the 3rd or 4th most wins in the NBA since New Year's.
  14. It's playoff time, baby!!! Bust out the black shoes and socks! Thank God we have the Bulls to take our minds off the Cubs right now (sound familiar?)... at least, those of us who are fans of both teams. What a weekend.. Draft and the Bulls first playoff game in 7 years. :D :D
  15. Now the SCORE is reporting that Dusty has changed the lineup so Hairston is now leading off and playing 2B. Not to fear Perez lovers, he's spelling for Ramirez today because of the "weather". Ugh... I'm all for protecting ARam... but with Blanco and Perez in the lineup, we're in for a longgg day today.
  16. Apparently, Perez is starting at 2B again today. He must really want to keep Hairston fresh.
  17. I doubt it. It seems like the average fans that go to the ballpark think Dusty is just the greatest. Sadly, I think that those of us who point out how clueless he really is are just a vocal minority.
  18. Thanks for the more detailed update! That's about the best news we could've hoped for. :)
  19. Not only is it absolutely ridiculous that Perez is starting over Hairston in itself; it's even more absurd that Perez is hitting #2. Dusty is an ABSOLUTE moron. He did the same crap last year when Ordonez would play.. He'd bat him #2. Hell, we had Lenny Harris hit leadoff a couple times. Great idea... get your worst hitters the most at bats possible.
  20. :x  That really sucks!! What quotes from the Cubs? BTW, over at that OTHER board, the Brewers trolls think it was a perfectly clean slide... riiggght
  21. how is that a plus? Are you kidding me?? I don't think he is... I dunno. I don't really care about the White Sox... but I take pride in the fact that we're not bitter about the rivalry like they are. They're Chicago's red-headed step-child. They hate us. I don't really see myself or most Cubs fans hating the Sox or even caring about them though. For me, the rivalry is like, "Meh." If they win, good for them. Just as long as we win when we play them.
  22. The Miller sign is the old Torco sign. Beat me to it. I actually prefer this over the old Torco sign. It's pretty cool, since they have something new seemingly for every series.
  23. Dusty could be the Cubs' new mascot, since he's such a great motivator. Even better!
  24. Could we possibly keep Dusty as some sort of figurehead like the Queen of England to appease all the Dusty-butt-kissers? Then we can just hire a "head coach" to call the shots. Sound good?
  25. While I have no doubt that the Bulls will make the playoffs (none, whatsoever)... these kind of calculations sound eerily familiar (see: Cubs, September 2004).... Let's not bring back those memories. :)
