  1. i don't care how many games they lost last year, and i refuse to use that as a measuring stick. that sounds like something jim hendry would do. being happy with an improvement from one of most pathetic cub seasons ever isn't enough for me...and 85 wins for a team with a $100 mil payroll is not good. Agreed. Last year means nothing to me at this point. But if I'm going to lay blame somewhere for the Cubs not having a better record and not being more than two games up right now, it'll be on the first two months of the season where the Cubs played like crap (and also got unlucky). I'm not going to go all "OMGZ THE CUBS SUCK" after two losses. And at this point, I've accepted the first two months of the season and I'm not going to go off about it. Bottom line is that we're up 2 games right now, and 3 Cubs wins + Brewer losses away from a clean slate in the playoffs. Also, people like to say we're playing tight or choking and crap like that, but what does all that really even mean? Baseball is a game with a lot of variance, and while usually the better team wins, a good amount of the time, good teams lose to bad teams. It just happens. Tuesday's game came down to some bloop hits and Dontrelle Willis just being on. Last night, the Cubs barely missed some big HR's that would've made up for Marquis's suckiness. These things just happen. I can't go from thinking we're a good team 3 days ago to thinking we suck because we lost two games. EDIT - Didn't even see that I left that sentence unfinished, hah. And, oh yea, I meant Tuesday's game. Monday was an off day, duh.
  2. 2 games up with 4 to play \:D/ I can't get all upset over two games. These things happen over the course of 162 games. Bottom line is the lead didn't shrink at all yesterday, a day came off the calendar, and as a result, the magic number is down to 3.
  3. http://www.latimes.com/sports/printedition/la-sp-dodgers25sep25,0,7118486.story?coll=la-headlines-pe-sports To add to what Raisin is saying...
  4. It's true. Any team can win.. But the better teams always have a better shot going in, and I tend to think the Cubs are the best NL playoff team all around...
  5. And -1 to the magic number.
  6. Lately I've been hearing a lot of talk about how this is a crappy playoff team and how we'll probably lose in the playoffs and I'm just not so sure that's the case. I posted this in the Cards/Brew game thread, but it got sort of lost in all the excitement there. Just seeing what everyone thinks... Despite the huge sample size of the last two days, I really don't think the Cubs are that bad of a playoff team. I think they're significantly better than their record, considering their terrible record in extra innings (2-8) and their terrible first two months. For 4/6 months we've played like one of the best teams in baseball (sort of like the 03 Marlins), especially when you consider the injuries we've dealt with to a few of our key players. I honestly think the Cubs might be the best team going into the NL playoffs, especially with the showing the Mets have put on lately and the fact that the Diamondbacks are nowhere near as good as their record. The Cubs also rank up there with the top few teams in terms of pythag wins. I just see a lot of reasons to believe that they're better than they look. Not necessarily a great team, but certainly one that's good enough to come out on top on the NL side of the playoffs... Call me crazy.
  7. http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000003B8F.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg It might not seem like it, but it was. \:D/ Thanks Turnblow (and Cards)!
  8. Dude, come on. They were tanking it until Yost got stupid and decided to piss them off. Seriously hope you're only like 1% serious....

  10. The Brewers also won the first two games of the series and won the series. The Cubs have already lost the series with a chance to get swept tomorrow. Advantage: Cubs. Advantage Cubs for sure.
  11. Brewers won their series. Cubs didn't. If they Cubs won 2/3 this season would be over. Two game lead with 4 to go. That's all I care about.
  12. Brewers have (almost) officially choked much harder than us tonight. At least we lost on the road to a bad team with a good offense with our crappiest (well, second crappiest when you count Trax) pitcher. They're about to lose at home to what amounts to a far worse team right now... And get blown out.
  13. HAHHAHA I love the Cardinals... until April 2008
  14. I love this! Oh, and I posted this in the other thread, but more people here, so whatever... So....not to change the subject, but let's say we got both Cuban and ARod this offseason.. Which thread would be longer? And how long? Oh, and Derrick Turnbow, plz walk in a run, thanks. (That one worked out)

  18. I can't count how many balls it looks like the Brewers have JUST missed on gameday...
  19. Who the hell is Brian Falkenborg and why is he coming in to face the heart of Milwaukee's lineup?
  20. you obviously didn't read the other thread where Lou said Kendall is starting the rest of the way. Hope that's a lie It's not. Oh, and Soriano proves me wrong by popping out weakly.
