  1. Forget Crawford, if we're going to give up a bunch of talent to the D-Rays, get Gomes.
  2. welcome! Billy is hurt IIRC, don't remember much else besides that he's been out for quite a while.
  3. You don't find it highly unlikely that Rusch, who had a career year at age 29, will not be able to do it again now that he's over 31 and has reverted back to the awfulness of the rest of his career? Rusch offers very little hope for improvement, and there's someone right now in Hill who has nothing left to prove at AAA who should be occupying Rusch's role. Holding onto him on the slim hope that he'll fetch something at the trade deadline is unreasonable when you consider the team's pitching situation, and the fact that teams will be less likely to want him with the multi-year deal Hendry signed him for.
  4. yes, the England- T & T game is the one I get to see tomorrow! Let's go Soca Warriors round deux
  5. Great stuff as always T2E, I've been looking forward to these articles since the draft.
  6. What the.... "There's safety in numbers"? That's the worst commercial I've seen in months.
  7. No, he called Lee one of the best defenders in the league out of all the positions, not only a good defender for a first baseman. Ah, as you can tell I'm not devoting my full attention to the game. Thank you for saving me from lunacy.
  8. Did Len just call Bynum one of the best defenders in the majors at several positions?
  9. OR YOU COULD TAKE THE PERFECT PITCH TO DRIVE, ALSO AN OPTION
  10. Neifi apparently playing because he's 6 for 15 against Oswalt with a double. Someone needs to take a Stat 101 book to Dusty's house. And beat him with it.
  11. and boo to the person who took away the "t"
  12. Seriously, I only get to see about 40 minutes of the middle game, and they can't even show all the goals that Spain scored?
  13. I won't be happy if the $8M is guaranteed, but college statistics have very limited predictive value. Well, I'm not trying to project his major league career based off of it, but the guy isn't striking out many guys, giving up a lot of hits, and has a poor K/BB, and at the college level against a schedule that isn't extremely difficult. I understand that good college performance isn't a guarantee to carry over to professional baseball, but how is a mediocre college performer supposed to become a good major leaguer? The only thing I can think of is some correctable flaw, which means they're gambling 8 million that they can fix him. Not a good situation IMO.
  14. You don't think a 235+ difference in OPS is significant? He's downright terrible for a corner outfielder away from Arlington.
  15. How are they anything alike other than getting big signing bonuses? Brownlie was coming off of injuries that he never really bounced back from. Big signing bonuses that won't be lived up to. I'm not that impressed with Samardzija, he doesn't have great velocity, and he didn't have very good numbers either of the last two years. I guess I don't see why he was even a projected top 20 pick. He's been in the 92-96 most of the season and has topped out at 99 multiple times this past season. He's projected as a top 20 pick because of his fastball velo and his ceiling, which he obviously came nowhere near since he spent so little time on baseball. Huh, I remembered wrong about the fastball, that's good news. Either way though, I'm not very optimistic about giving him 8 million dollars when he can't get out college hitters.
  16. The strikeout argument is about scale. On the big scale of evaluating a hitter's worth: Strikeouts are bad, but they do not negate actual production. They make it harder to sustain that production, which is why they are important for minor leaguers and players without MLB track records. On a small scale of situations: Strikeouts are more debated as a matter of approach. There are very few situations worse than a strikeout in the situations being described. However, if you adjust your approach to consciously avoid strikeouts(and therefore make more contact) you sacrifice the ability to hit for extra bases. This means the difference in overall production isn't going to be very different. You may score a little more consistently avoiding strikeouts, but since the season is too short to always bear that out, and this approach is the opposite of what you want your hitters to do in other situations, I'd say that dealing with the strikeouts(and the XBH's that come with them) would be the best choice.
  17. Giles still isn't hitting for a lot of power even away from Petco, only an .852 OPS.

  19. Steak grows on Dmitri! *Ducks* hahahahahahahahahha
  20. I noticed that the Astros' pitching coach wouldn't use the cell phone, he used the hard-wired phone every time. Did the Astros coach have a wireless phone? I didn't see today's game but I didn't notice the other team referenced in the article last night.
