  1. I dunno, under the assumption that Ramirez was gone, I think it's a very supportable argument that the Cubs should rebuild. And ultimately, none of us are/were privy to the information of the negotiations, so none of us can definitively say that was a mistaken approach at that time.
  2. Tell that to a Cardinals fan in a Cubs thread and you'd get banned. I'm starting to see Truffle's point about posting in Bears threads - it just isn't worth the hassle. If you had said your original post in a game thread as a Cardinal fan, you'd be banned. Seriously, what did you expect when you come in and start trashing the Bears?
  3. Quoting myself since too many posts past to edit... Since Wood is back and likely in the pen, what about a Jones+Dempster for Hudson deal? Atlanta gets rid of any '09 obligation, as well as at least 10 million total salary, plus a serviceable OF and a bullpen project like they've taken on before(Sosa, Reitsma, etc). A Zambrano, Schmidt, Hudson, Hill, Prior/Miller/youngster rotation would be fun. I know you've been advocating Hudson because his cumulative peripherals in 06 werent a ton different than 05, but I thought when we dug deeper, it looked like 05 was more of a lucky year than 06 being unlucky? I still think Hudson was a little unlucky last year, but that's why I have him as the secondary SP acquisition(with Schmidt), instead of counting on him to be the ace SP acquisition.
  4. My count says that I have IMB covered, 76-73. It would be nice to bounce back from back-to-back losses.

That would kill us financially.

  7. Thanks for that scoop that Ramirez was testing Free Agency, Rosenthal. You nearly gave USS an aneurysm.
  8. .314/.382/.548/.930 That's Mark Teahen's line after June 1 when he came back from an early season demotion to Triple-A. They're talking about moving him to the OF, but with previous talk of moving DeJesus to a corner as well they're not hurting for bats and would likely listen to a strong offer laced with pitching. That's a line matching Ramirez's production, and he's 25 years old, a pretty solid defender, and he's not even arbitration eligible until after next season(and maybe not until the season after that thanks to his demotion). This is a situation where Hendry could overpay in an effort to save his job by improving the team short term, and still have it be a good move for the club longer term as well.
  9. Didn't Louisville beat them 31-7 with their backup QB in Manhatten? I think they did. Baylor for BCS! I'm just going with common opponents not the Kevin Bacon game that you love to do. I think you have that backwards. Teams that have trounced KSU this year: Baylor, Mizzou, Nebraska, and Louisville. They're in the bottom half of the Big 12, they're not a quality win by any stretch of the imagination. Same with Kentucky.

  11. That would be a good trade for both teams, in my opinion. I think Bonderman has arbitration this year for the last time. This is Bonderman's second arbitration year. He's a FA after '08.
  12. They get leeway because they've beaten someone good.
  13. Lou Holtz just said that all the tenthion that teams that are in the Nathional Championthip hunt makes them tired and they play worthe.
  14. Trey Stross, that dude went to my rival High School. In ACC news, Georgia Tech is only up 7-0 on UNC in the 4th
  15. If true, there's a reason for that. Batista is terrible. He's 36 and he hasn't been any good for 3 years. if by not good you mean better than the major league average pitcher, then yes, he hasn't been any good for 3 years You guys need to get over ERA+. He had a WHIP over 1.5 the two years he was a starter, a K/BB near 1 both years he was a starter, an OBP against over .350 both those years, and an OPS against around .780. He's 36 years old and it's likely going to get worse, he's a terrible option for the rotation. Get over ERA? That is the stat that defines pitchers. ERA is a very good jusdge of how good a guy is. If they give up runs, which help the other team, ERA will show just how many runs a guy gave up. Runs are the name of the game and ERA shows just how good or bad someone is at not giving them up. ERA is a result of several factors, pitching ability, defensive ability, pitching ability of other pitchers, and luck. I'm not saying to ignore it, but to use it as the only support for saying that this guy or that guy isn't half bad, is wrong.
  16. Agreed, the Big East is clearly the worst major conference. Now that it's settled, Iowa is giving Wisconsin a good game up in Iowa City.

A 1.5 WHIP is terrible, striking out as many guys as you walk is terrible, giving up baserunners at a .350 clip is terrible.

  19. Auburn is what Georgia was earlier in the season, ranked too high and stumbling past inferior opponents until someone finally gets to them

  21. Apparently the Cardinals are going to try to become the Giants of the midwest.
  22. Even if he is terrible though, Batista? Miguel Batista?
