  1. He wanted Pierre to elevate the ball, and Martin skied it so it carried a bit. Not much reason to think Hill was on the verge of breaking down, especially considering his pitch count.
  2. Wuertz warming up to pitch the 7th again, woohoo Who cares when he pitches? All that matters is what situation he comes in, and Lou is showing that he is willing to bring Wuertz in for close games (as he should be). yeah, I'm okay with it this time as he's more likely to face better hitters than the guy who pitches the 8th. If it's Howry though someone needs to brain Lou with a bat.

  4. Sucks for Hill, he was dealing and was under 70 pitches
  5. Peavy just doubled in a run to help his cause. 2-0 Padres
  6. probably just a DP on a sac bunt, 2B covers first in that instance
  7. now the strikezone tightens up, perfect nicely done cesar and especially Lee
  8. way to tip them off Len, we could've had another batter.
  9. It's hard to believe Hill only has 18 pitches through 2 innings.
  10. I'm pretty sure if an opposing pitcher did what Hill did with a runner on base, I'd be calling for a balk every pitch. Especially the pickoff throw.
  11. You can tell that Soriano still can't turn on the afterburners to beat out a throw.
  12. Except he was pretty solid in 2004 and 2006 too. I'm up for the idea of buying low on Cordero, but trading Dempster or Guzman for him defeats the purpose. And the idea that Guzman couldn't reach the level Cordero has been at, never mind the level that he's currently at, is silly. Agreed. So how about Murton and Marmol for Cordero and Church? 8-[ That's not a bad deal, but what does it accomplish? Church is essentially a LH Murton a couple years further in his career.
  13. My recollection has always been that Soto was a very strong defensive catcher.
  14. that was Grady Little not Dusty I thought it was Hendry. Hendry was quoting Little.
  15. You missed that he hits for about as much power as Theriot, he'd be a disaster in a corner OF spot. In fact, all things considered he's remarkably like Jose Macias. 1) Everyone on the team doesn't have to hit for power. When you have Ramirez, Lee, Soriano, and Barrett you get plenty of power, it'd be nice to have some speed in the lineup that can get on base (Theriot and Guzman could provide that). Plus it'd give the opportunity to move Soriano out of the lead-off spot which everyone seems to want so badly. 2) Don't ever compare anyone to Jose Macias, it isn't fair. Macias has achieved his own level of sucktitude. Plus you can't compare him to Macias considering Macias has sucked for almost 8 years in the majors, and this guy has 83AB in the majors 3) How would he be a disaster in a corner OF spot? If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say we should move a CF to a corner spot or a corner OF'er to CF over the last few years I'd be raking. Hell, people are throwing the idea around of trading for Teixeira and moving him to the OF and people seem okay with the idea, how would moving what Baseball America describes as Texas' best defensive outfielder to a corner spot be a disaster? He'd be a disaster because he does nothing but hit singles. You can't have a guy with a minor league IsoP of .080 in a corner OF spot. It's just way too hard to compensate elsewhere. Extra base hits are important. And besides, a sub .360 minor league OBP is nothing to write home about. As far as the comparison goes, take a look at Macias' minor league career on the baseball cube. Almost the exact same hitting line while playing at levels at similar ages. Guzman is 26 and has never put up an OPS above .760, he has the ceiling of a fifth outfielder.

  18. I think Veal showed he was too advanced for Daytona last year. He did really poorly in 4 outings to start the year, then put it together for 4 straight outings before tonight and a previous relief outing. He's been far from a consistent disaster all year.
  19. Braun has a double and a HR in his first 6 AB's.
  20. Willits and Rivera aren't as good as Murton. Once Willits cools down they'll be in need of an outfielder again. Murton's a cheap solution that won't prohibit them from adding an impact OF in the future if they wanted to. And again, Moseley isn't anything special. He doesn't walk a lot of guys(although even that has declined to unacceptable levels since he went to the Angel system), but he doesn't miss enough bats and gives up too many baserunners to be anything exceptional. And he's most definitely not going to be the reason the Angels would say no to a pitcher the caliber of Zambrano.
  21. Izturis is a below average defensive player. He has been for a couple years now.
  22. LAA is not in need for another SP. They already go 7 deep in Lackey, Colon, Santana, Escobar, Weaver, Saunders, and Moseley. They are more interested in trading for an impact bat than another SP. Maybe if they deal one of their talented SP then you could consider them taking Zambrano. Anaheim needs something to put them over the top in the AL. Moseley and Saunders aren't anything special, especially as starters. Colon and Weaver have battled inconsistency and injuries, and Santana has been awful this year. They've been linked to Zambrano before(when their pitching was actually better than it is now with Weaver and Santana's success last year), and if they have a chance to add a pitcher of his caliber plus some cheap outfield help I don't think they'd be disinterested.
  23. He's still got age on his side somewhat, but this is his 3rd season in the system now and he has yet to stick in full season ball. That's a major disappointment at least, if not a failure.
