  1. I think the reason is he did and then his existing leverage relievers evaporated and also rotation and depth injuries have robbed them of further depth. There are no solutions that prevent 'Merryweather misses the first half of the year and Alzolay turns to dust, Almonte, Palencia, and Smyly all have a DL stint in the first 6 weeks, and they get minimal bullpen innings from Assad, Wesneski, or Brown due to rotation injuries' from being a problem. As it stands, Neris has been wild but effective, and Almonte was nearly on the Merryweather track before his injury. Adding that to the existing back end along with the stuff guys who could've but haven't yet broken through(Palencia, Little) with the long relievers/rotation depth they have should be fine, but no pitching staff can just shrug off 4 starters and 5 relievers needing DL stints in a 6 week span.
  2. Miller was a Cubs 4th round pick in 2016 and has bounced around AAA since leaving the org.
  3. Strike 3 has to be called there, not good enough
  4. Statcast says both of those are out of Wrigley, and that's without considering whatever bird apparently hit that one last inning to die as late as it did
  5. think a few of us might've been able to match the sprint speed there
  6. As best as I can tell from the fragmented replays, Craig jumped up to the top step to yell something after the call, Valentine yelled "sit down" and Counsell said "shut up" in response and got run.
  7. that is an extremely obvious swing, give me a break
  8. Send 👏 Ozzie 👏 Albies 👏 To 👏 The 👏 Hague
  9. Acuna didn't deserve to be on first anyway
  10. Agreed, against a RHSP with Lopez's velocity and heatmap, you definitely want Mastrobuoni's left handedness and ability to handle that zone. To say nothing of the fact that playing Wisdom instead of Mastrobuoni requires someone at 2B who has been a below average *corner* infielder and who the team wants reps on the corner.
  11. I think Craig is just listening to the experts. “Already tired of Wisdom” “Wisdom shouldn’t face any righties or be playing in the field. Hopefully Counsell learned something today” “Wisdom is useless against RHP”
  12. This has been a wild day of soccer news. Marsch to Canada, Sergio Ramos maybe signing with San Diego, this guy signing for a Romanian club and then having his twin brother play instead, just all around nutty
  13. I actually am interested to see Cuas back with the team again(I missed his outing during his 24 hour callup), but it would be very, very funny for Wicks to get activated like, tomorrow and Cuas sent back to Iowa again
  14. I'm being a bit cheeky, but to actually put words to my thoughts, I think that is a niche enough concern that if your two best starters are LH already(not to mention Wicks down-rotation), then it probably is not the biggest value add to chase further LHH dominance in a rotation acquisition.
  15. *spongebob meme pointing at Steele and Shota*
  16. Kopech would be the headlining RP name, he hasn't been top of scale dominant but with that stuff and 1.5 years of control he'd still have a decent pricetag.
  17. He probably is a little banged up from the slide into second yesterday, but as far as I know him being taken out was purely to improve late inning defense, like has happened about a dozen other times so far this year.
  18. The Cardinals won today, but that snapped a 7 game losing streak and they are already 8 games out of the division and have the 3rd worst record in the NL. Marmol got ejected today after *winning* a challenge by screaming 'don't look at me' at the umpire from the dugout: Goldschmidt hit a HR today that raised his OPS to about .550. Their pop up hitters(Nootbaar, Donovan) and high pedigree prospects(Walker, Gorman) have all faceplanted. Contreras was killing the ball but he broke his arm after they made him move forward to compensate for his framing deficiencies. Their 'be the 2023 Mets with one third of the talent' approach to the rotation has had predictable results(24th in SP WAR). Jordan Hicks and Jack Flaherty escaped their pitching development and immediately became good again. Things are getting dire quickly.
  19. Also that Gomes flyout has a higher xBA than all but 2 balls the Pirates have hit today, it cannot be emphasized enough how little they deserve to win this game.
