  1. I mean, he wasn't exactly a control pitcher at his best, he's always gonna walk the same tightrope that Edwards does.
  2. A manager that presumably ordered, or at least had no problem with, his own pitcher intentionally hitting Jake Arrieta in a horsefeathering playoff game as 'revenge' for a couple of accidental plunks - IN A horsefeathering PLAYOFF GAME - can never say anything about 'respecting the game' ever again. I'm fairly certain the motive wasn't even revenge but rather 'Arrieta is carving us up and our season has like 9 outs left, maybe if we put one in his ribs it'll throw him off and we'll have a chance.
  3. both of those home runs are trash, skied 360 foot nonsense to LCF get out of here
  4. For some reason this bit on Misael Garcia cracked me up, I think it's how it underscores the absurdity of scouting 16 year olds:
  5. it's a getaway day lineup against the Pirates so it's not a huge concern, but that really reinforces how important Rizzo and Bryant are to the team. Take one of them away, and with your 3rd best hitter(Contreras) sitting more than the average regular you get a much weaker lineup a fair amount of the time. Thankfully the depth is so good that you don't have a bunch of empty husks in the back half of the lineup, it's more the difference between good and great.
  6. Regardless of position. IIRC the only decent player was Alex Wood.
  7. bless your goofy giraffe legs and the terrible places they take you, Polanco
  8. Is it meatball-ish of me to think that outside of his cannon of an arm that Willson is...kinda terrible behind the plate? I've been pretty disappointed with the outright misses(at least 3 passed balls already) as well as stuff like the pitch he dropped in Cervelli's last at bat. It was clearly a strike and simply catching it would've gotten him the call and (based on the ensuing events) saved a run.
  9. Heyward playing Dickerson to pull and Happ playing on the shortstop side of LCF, something doesn't seem quite right there
  10. I got back to about 2011 last night and I found like 3 players with even 3 career bWAR between 65 and 100. You're fighting an extreme uphill battle so you might as well trust your scouting muscle rather than faint historical trends.
  11. Never. It's fun, it's neat! Treat it the same way we point out that Bryce Harper has a slugging percentage over 1.000, it's a delightful absurdity that we can enjoy.
  12. I wonder what Carl is looking at in that picture
  13. my initial gif searches were more....enthusiastically opinionated
  14. Nice. 4:3 GO/FO as well, and only used 65 pitches.
  15. Given their preseason expectations and the light schedule they've had so far, probably fair to say Pittsburgh has banked 2 wins already. That's nontrivial when it comes to wild card contention(and going back to the Cole trade I liked their outlook a bit better than the media consensus), but ultimately 9 games isn't going to make them a Brewers-in-'17-caliber annoyance.
  16. #Mekkeswatch 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 K, 2 BB Both walks came in his second inning.
  17. The problem I have is that Morrow almost certainly would have been warming up in the 10th again just in case the Cubs scored just like he was a week ago. I can see the argument, but with Morrow and Montgomery as the only truly available relievers left, I’m not upset by the decision.
  18. I actually didn’t mind the bullpen usage that much last night. Maddon went all in to stop a few rallies(successfully!), and he consistently optimized to get the best relievers against the heart of the order(like Edwards pitching the 8th after Cishek threw like 2 pitches). With Santana leading off the 9th I can accept Montgomery trying to get through 2 before going to Morrow for the heart of the order again.
  19. Hader, Jeffress, and Albers all stretched well past their expiration date and they can’t make them pay for it. Frustrating
  20. Maybe the most encouraging thing about that was that Javy smoked a 2 strike pitch to RCF against a RHP.
  21. Anyone else legit worried for Caratini’s health as Contreras wound up for that throw
