  1. Pondering a Possible Pete Alonso Trade He goes onto say that the possibility of underestimating Alonso's value means you would likely expect a lesser prospect or two to be tacked on in a finalized deal, but that you aren't getting to a higher caliber of lead prospect(he uses Chourio as an example, but you can extrapolate similarly to PCA).
  2. I think if you're concerned about workload you still pitch him from the start, but skip him occasionally and/or hold down the IP/pitch count a bit so if he is forcing the issue to MLB that he's not redlining in time for the most important games.
  3. Correct, you can't exceed 14 pitchers so one of the 2 call ups has to be a hitter. You could in theory call someone up for game 1 insurance then option them for Greene for game 2, but I don't think it could be Rucker since he hasn't been down 10 days, which means it's either Estrada, Kilian, Boxberger, or adding someone to the 40 man just to do that Grandpa Simpson maneuver for a day.
  4. Also, there's probably greater opportunity for a RH bat to make a difference/supplant existing options than there is for a LHH.
  5. I typoed the IP/GS, but the line that is 'better at everything but xFIP' is Devers.
  6. One of these is Devers in A+ at age 22 in 2022 and the other is Gallardo in A+ at age 21 in 2023 66.1 IP, 5.0 IP/GS, 8.55 K/9, 1.76 BB/9, 18.2 K-BB%, 3.93 ERA, 3.33 FIP, 3.47 xFIP, 49.2 GB% 51.1 IP, 5.0 IP/GS, 8.24 K/9, 2.10 BB/9, 17.9% K-BB%, 1.05 ERA, 3.02 FIP, 3.97 xFIP, 51.9% GB%
  7. I have to imagine Greene will start Game 2 even if he doesn't go 6 strong, he's been starting at Iowa and was built up to 5 IP/75 pitches.
  8. I'm not holding my breath, that's what I was getting at by quoting you and replacing the name with Devers. If I look at Devers 2022 and Gallardo 2023, I'm not sure I see a meaningful enough difference in their profiles or performance to see this chasm that you're describing between Devers being just-a-guy(justifiable) and Gallardo being the best and/or highest upside SP in the system(..less justifiable)
  9. Someone else pointed this out when he was first waived, but he has a 4 million buyout of next year's mutual option, so the calculus was a little different with him compared to the others even before getting to his Bauer-esque personal life
  10. Yeah but stuff's the easiest part about a pitcher to improve these days, particularly a durable strike thrower with command and control like Devers.
  11. The problem I have with Hendricks is that as he's already demonstrated that there isn't a floor to his production, if the command isn't quite on point or he loses enough movement/velo due to age, then you're getting this year's Taillon in terms of output and salary. I'm also concerned that this year is a dead cat bounce partially *because* of his injury, where he hasn't had to try to go a full season and has more in the tank in terms of being able to repeat his delivery and have plus command. Next year(especially if he makes any postseason starts) that's not a luxury he'll have, and that 16 million represents a sizeable chunk of what the team will have to work with to upgrade the roster.
  12. Curious how much of this is environmental, leaving the tacked ball in AA and having ABS for half the AAA games.
  13. The Reds are now 3 back of the Cubs and face Logan Webb tomorrow, if they lose 3 of 4 over the weekend that might be a knockout blow, at least in terms of catching the Cubs.
  14. That Wade Davis stat seems impossible, I remember having downright Borowskian vibes when he'd come in
  15. It's possible I made the wrong correlation to him rolling around in there
  16. still hasn't thrown 2 strikes without throwing 4 balls first
  17. This is take until you get 2 territory IMO, make him throw strikes in a leverage situation
  18. I feel like Tom Emanski rolls over in his grave every time he watches Gomes throw and yet he constantly gets incredible pop times
  19. Burnes gave up 10 baserunners, eyeballing his gamelogs he's given up an average of 4-5 runs every time that's happened in the last several years.
  20. Clark won the Great Mascot Race, they're putting up 5 this inning
