    Agreed. The Cards big 3 is better than the Cubs big 3. I'd take Cubs other 5 vs. the Cards 5, though. I'm just curious as to who is the 3rd of our big 3. Is it the guy who's on the bench today? Barrett, but there's not a lot of difference.

    Wow, I hate arguing with people who don't read. Let me put this in a bigger font... He's technically right, they led the NL in 2002. They were 7th in the NL in 2000.

    Anderson supposedly had his best recruiting class yet coming too.

    Don Baylor was hitting coach for Cox before getting hired. I can't remember who else was considered for the job around Baylor's hire(other than Gardenhire who I'm iffy on), but the Dusty hiring had no retreads talked about/interviewed IIRC. Baylor is a disciple of Earl Weaver....very Cub like philosophy minus the good the players. I must confess I never saw Earl Weaver manage and I don't remember much how Baylor was, but from everything I've read about them they seem like complete opposites.

    while that might be true, assuming the run would score runs contrary to everything else that's mandated about situations like this(can't assume a double play for example)

    yeah, I'd say that if you can overturn the call at all that you can only assume one base advanced.

    Well, I think it has been made pretty clear that Prior misses more time to minor injuries than any other pitcher in the league. Until someone can present a pitcher who has had 5 injuries like Prior had, I conclude it to be true because I have a pretty good memory of every player and MLB season I've watched and I can't think of any. So whether it is right for the Cubs to shut him down each time he gets one of these injuries or he could have just played through some of them and never had any problems, there is a problem. He doesn't pitch enough. You think having 5 minor injuries in 4 years is more than any other pitcher in the league? How much time did he actually miss with those injuries? I count 1 each for two of the injuries, 5 for missing September of '02(games didn't matter, could've been back for his last 2 starts if necessary), and 10 for the 2004 beginning of the season, and this year.

    I have some of the most pessimistic(for lack of a better word) projections for Murton, but he's a decent bet to put up similar numbers as Lee in the OBP department with superior defense. The fact that Lee is a more expensive rental, and that we're giving up 2 of our top pitching prospects that are on the cusp of the majors isn't worth the increase in power.

    Blanco had an amazing July and a typical rest of the 2nd half(based on his 3 year splits). He's 34, are you expecting him to carry over a hot streak that he already lost 9 months ago?
