  1. Less than 3 minutes until the brackets are revealed.
  2. Damn, if he would have missed 1 we still would've had a chance. It's all over now.
  3. To overtime we go, my blood pressure is through the roof right now!
  4. I like what I'm seeing out of Kansas right now. I realize they're down 10 and were down almost 20 earlier but that was with Durant being himself (i.e. superhuman). They weathered the storm and now have Texas lead down to 7. EDIT: KU down only 5 at halftime. How imporant is DJ Augustine for Texas. Texas still has a lot to learn before the tourney. Durant still needs to learn how to share the ball more. I know that he is the best player on the team, but there were still several series where he passed up open guys to try and create a play for himself and several times he ended up with a turnover or no shot.
  5. Texas is letting KU back in the game now. The lead has been cut to 35-24.
  6. Gordon was in the minors last year so you really can't compare their stats, but I will. Alex Gordon: 2006 (minors)- .325/.427/.588/1.015 29HR 101RBI 113/72 K/BB 2005 (NCAA)- .372/.518/.760/1.278 19HR 66RBI 38/63 K/BB Weiters: 2006 (NCAA)- .355/.480/.606/1.086 15HR 71RBI 39/56 K/BB 2005 (NCAA)- .366/.470.581/1.051 10HR 68RBI 32/45 K/BB
  7. I bet XM finds a way to screw us over and not pick up the coverage until the game is halfway over. I don't think it has failed yet this spring.
  8. If it were up to me I think this is the way I'd make the roster: C: Barrett 1B: Lee 2B: DeRosa SS: Izturis 3B: Ramirez LF: Murton CF: Soriano RF: Jones Bench: Floyd, Theriot, Blanco, Coats, Pagan/Ward (Ward offers decent power off the bench but his performance thus far has been atrocious) SPs: Zambrano Lilly Marquis Hill Prior/Guzman (loser lands up on DL (Prior) or AAA (Guzman) Bullpen: Dempster Howry Wood Eyre Ohman Cotts Weurtz When everything settles, I believe that Miller will be traded since there probably won't be room in the rotation for him and he already stated that he won't pitch out of the bullpen. Prior's name probably wins out for the 5th spot even though Lou has been impressed by Guzman.
  9. NMSU just beat Utah St 72-70 for the WAC Championship in another good smaller conference game today.
  10. Vance, I vehemently disagree. I don't think that Prior is irrelevant and expendable, but if Guzman flat out performs better then I think that he should get the spot. If Prior continues the way that he's going, I think he needs to be put on the 15-day DL and stay behind in extended ST to continue to work on his stuff. After he gets more comfortable and starts stretching it out down there, he should go on a rehab assignment for 2-3 starts split between AA and AAA to make sure he's sharp when he makes his debut. I'd aim for him to return around May 4th when the Cubs open up a 6-game homestand against the Nats and Pirates. I don't think the Cubs are going to play that game this year. I think this could be a pivotal time in Mark Prior's Cubs career. He can be replaced if someone can not only win the fifth spot but show flashes of dominance. Guzman has the ability to do so. It's all hypothetical at this point but if Guzman wins the spot and goes on to win his first few starts leading up to a potential Prior return, I could see it being a very difficult situation... Listening to the off-the-record comments by Lou, it's apparent that Angel Guzman fits his profile of his ideal 5th starter; a young guy who throws well with the ability to get better as the season progresses. Having said that, I'm sure Lou would love to have the old Mark Prior but it doesn't look like he'll be around for awhile (if ever). They may not, but IMO they would be foolish not to. He missed a good portion of last year with shoulder problems and hadn't thrown since August I don't believe. Right now I think as he gets his stamina and strength up, his velocity will improve. It is all a matter of fine tuning his mechanics and finding that consistent arm slot. If he can't do that by the end of ST, I don't want him to still be fooling around with it in Wrigley.
  11. Moore will probably be at 3rd and his isn't too hot with the glove either. They've got Hoffpauir at first though, and he's pretty good. Moore's not that bad defensively. I thought he was racking up the errors, and was being considered for a move to the outfield ala Kelton because he couldn't handle 3rd defensively but we still wanted his bat?

  13. They're still looking at it. Apparently the clock might not have started on time so there may still be time left. They are messing this up-there was a timer's error. That shot never should have counted, but it did. The referees cannot change it, and arbitrarily putting time on the clock makes no sense whatsoever. There was exactly 1 second left on the clock when he released the shot, and that's more than the difference from when the ball was first touched and when the clock started. Even if the clock had started on time, there still would have been roughly a half second left on the clock when he released the shot so the shot was good no matter how you look at it. The refs were still terrible though.

  15. Miami (OH) just won the MAC Championship by 1 point over Akron.

  17. Sounds like Kincade is injured, got HBP and went straight into the dugout. Hoffpauir is the runner at 1st now.
  18. Sounds like Prior with a good offspeed pitch probably.
  19. Another hit by The Riot! It'll be nice to have him off the bench this year.
  20. Was Lou really over there trying to get in Buck's way?
  21. Blanco is a managers dream? This is news to me.
  22. Only 2nd week into ST, and with a long layoff I think it is to be expected.
