  1. Gameday had it right on the edge of the plate. That pitch was fine.
  2. Ugh. 2 great defensive plays. 1 hard liner right at a guy. A 2 strike K. And just underneath a HR.
  3. I ain't even mad. That's all they're getting off of Cyle and we got a few coming.
  4. Yeah, got under it. I don't know that he gets it together tonight, but I'd expect him to be good to go in LA. Like the graphic showed, this slump isn't atypical for him and it typically should be nearing it's end.
  5. I'm really torn. Hoyer probably has to keep the job, but I don't think he's been pressured more than 3 times total in the last 4 games.
  6. I agree sometimes it can be a little much. But it's a gamethread. When talking exclusively about a game that is going on live, that's what's going to happen. People aren't going to just accept everything that is happening as positive. Honestly, it's pretty boring if everyone is just like, "oh that wacky, Maddon....bringing in Travis Wood over Jon Lester!". All his moves haven't worked, and though 99.5% of them have, it's not unfair to question them. But just like this team's history has no bearing on the current team, this current team isn't promised anything because of winning 103 games this year and 200 combined the last 2 years. That being said, gamethreads are definitely the most immature forum on this board. But easily avoidable and most people on this board are levelheaded enough to be talked off the ledge even during games.
  7. This seems like a good night to show the world that 2016 Kyle Hendricks was no fluke. The Cubs playoffs have been highlighted by great pitching by Lester, great late/clutch hitting by the Cubs dongsmiths, the bullpen being pretty strong other than a questionable walk followed by giving up a clutch hit on a 102 mph fastball, twice. Hendricks left his last start early, obviously, but that stopped most casual fans from really seeing him at his finest. Going against Kershaw, if/when Hendricks outduels him.....there's no stopping him from becoming a household name. But I also think we're kidding ourselves if we think Kershaw will be anything less than typical Kershaw. I mean, hopefully he will be tired and give up 5 runs like he did in Game 4 vs. Washington....but I don't think we can expect that by any means. I know the Dodgers bullpen is good, but they've been used a lot. If the game is close and late again, I have full faith in the Cubs to win again. Maddon won't get cute with his pen again, and the Dodgers will do nothing with fresh/full innings from Strop, Edwards, and Chapman late.
  8. Don't let them get away with this dumb horsefeathers they've done this inning.
  9. Once he decided to pull Lester, which has good logic either way, Joe has managed the pen perfectly. Yep. Strop should have had a K. Bryant shouldn't have been stupid. Can't rely on Chapman to strike out everybody with 0 margin for error., but he's also by far the best for that situation.
  10. F you Smoltz, I'll throw the curve and I'll throw it well.
  11. Maeda pitched a lot worse than 3 ER in 4 IP, with one of them coming on a steal of home. Lester probably isn't pitching as good as 1 ER in 5 IP, but that 1 ER wouldn't even have happened last game.
  12. Joc has no chance to do anything against Lester.
