  1. Thanks, Mark. You know I've been puzzling over those for ages!
  2. I don't think he'll be a free agent until 2006 or 2007. However, there's a decent chance he may get posted next offseason. Kenji will qualify for free agency during the 2005 season, allowing him to join an MLB team by 2006 if he's so inclined. Thanks. So then his team will face the question of whether to post him next offseason to get something in return, or risk losing him for nothing the following offseason.
  3. I hope so, Tim, I hope so. Tim and 1908 is 05 the year that Kenji Johjima will become a free agent??? I don't think he'll be a free agent until 2006 or 2007. However, there's a decent chance he may get posted next offseason.
  4. This link shows the splits versus lefties for all the Cubs pitchers. The relievers with better stats versus lefties were: Veres, Farnsy, Borowski, Wellemeyer. In fact, Veres was (and has been throughout his career) sensational against lefties and horrid versus righties. Yet, Baker didn't seem to grasp that Veres should have been his "LOOGY" last year. As for Farnsy not being durable in the pen, he had injury issues in 2002, but seemed quite healthy in 2003. You may be right, but I didn't pick up anything along those lines last year.
  5. I expect Mercker to be comparable in effectiveness to Guthrie in '03. In other words, not bad, but not great, either. Given that comparison, I think Dusty will continue to use his relievers the same way as he did in '03. What would really help is if Sanchez has a breakthrough in Iowa and claims the sixth man spot by mid-year so that there are three lefties in the pen.
  6. Well, Remmy's base stats were a little better in '02 than '03. However, one of the big differences was his usage. Remlinger is significantly better against righties than lefties. He always has been because of his repotoire. In 2003, Remmy faced lefties 37% of the time. In '02, he only faced lefties 28% of the time. Given that lefties hit .263 off him, that increase wasn't a good thing. It drove me crazy last year every time I saw Baker lift Farnsworth (who destroys lefties) to bring in Remmy (who gets lit up by lefties) just to get the lefty-lefty matchup. But that's just me...
  7. Great stuff, Mark. Thanks! How about a catcher, eh 1908?
  8. Sounds like a great time. I wish I could have been there. :( I look forward to the reports tomorrow when things really heat up!
  9. Welcome to the forum!
  10. That sort of thing is determined by language in the contract rather than the Major League Rules or the Basic Agreement (which govern most of the dates I've listed). As a general thing, though, player/team option deadlines tend to track the time period of regular free agency fairly closely: players want to be free while all the jobs are unfilled, while teams don't want to get stuck with only a few mediocre alternatives available after a player leaves. The only thing I know definitely about the Cubs' ability to trade Sosa is that his contract specifies more than one trade window; but that might just mean the same time period in more than 1 year. I believe the Cubs have some possibility of swapping him before the trade deadline, but that's just my belief: most of the people I talk to would have no way of knowing what's in Sammie's contract and the few who might don't say. I knew it was part of the language of the contract as opposed to the CBA. I was just wondering if you had any insight. Sounds like it is being kept pretty quiet. Thanks!
  11. ml, do you have any ideas on the windows for Sosa to exercise his option or if the window for the Cubs to trade him exists somewhere in this time period?
  12. Shouldn't be a problem. I upped my bandwidth constraints to 30GB per month. Last month I only used a third of that, so I've got plenty of room for a while.
  13. Hard to believe that movie didn't get more votes as one of the top five of all time! I have to admit, the good words never grow old!
  14. Every time I see your a post from "tim" (I still think you should go by MarkTwain) I think of the Monty Python character...the wizard TIM. What's your favorite color?
  15. Maybe the problem is that the site missed you and was sending a signal you shouldn't stay away that long. :D
  16. Thanks for the update. I want this to run as smoothly as possible, so I appreciate you letting me know about any bugs/possible improvements. As for this glitch, it was an inconvenience when it happened, but I was able to go by the date/time listed on the forums and threads to see what I hadn't checked yet. I was thinking my problem was caused by having three browsers open simultaneously on the site (I was doing some admin work). Maybe that wasn't the case.
  17. Cuse, Sorry about the troubles. I had all my forums go to "Read" this morning, as well. I'm not sure what happened, but I'll look into it.
  18. Thanks. The site is growing much faster than I had even hoped that it would. I'm over 1G of bandwidth used up this month already. Which is great, but if I exceed my quota of 5G, the price skyrockets. This provider is very good and very reasonably priced, but I may soon have to start scouting for one with greater bandwidth.
  19. I'm afraid the bandwidth looks like it will become an issue pretty soon. I've already consumed about 13% of my available bandwidth for the month (about 647M of 5G). Due to some really exciting things we've got planned for later in the month, I'm anticipating that requirements are going to go even higher than the growth we're currently experiencing. Therefore, I'm going to cut out some of the larger avatars on the site. I'll try to replace them with a smaller version of the same avatar, where I can. Thanks for your understanding.
  20. Gotcha. We promise not to pry!
  21. I don't mind if someone is pessimistic about the Cubs chances or a particular player. I just don't like the irrational flaming that goes on over there.
  22. No sweat!
  23. Sorry about the Kristi confusion! Thanks on the compliments. I was really getting tired of the mood of the Cubs message board. I'm going to do my best to keep things much...nicer around here. :D
  24. Or should there be some qualitative measure added? Frankly, 100 "Hey, how ya doin'?" posts don't strike me as much of a qualification. Perhaps 100 or some other number would be the threshhold at which someone would be *considered* for All-Star status. I've set up "Special" ranks and ranks that are determined by the number of posts. The ranks by the number of posts are: Bench Player - 0 Posts Everyday Player - 25 Posts Veteran Player - 250 Posts All-Star - 1000 Posts I'm still trying to figure out a process for the Special Ranks (the only one I'll mention right now is HOF). I imagine that I'll have some nomination / voting process.
