  1. What the hell is the thing with the trouble the Cubs have getting Billy Hamilton out?
  2. In Maddon's post game, he said that it was Almora's fault and "clearly KB's ball".
  3. Except, if you read the article, that isn't true at all. I read the article. And what you said doesn't prove what I said is wrong. By "everbody is hiting or nobody is at the same time", I meant that the offense seemed to be really feast or famine. In June, the Cubs scored 3 or fewer 11 times in 28 games. But they also scored 7 or more 8 times, and scored 6 another 4 times. Ahhhh...reading problem on my part. I thought you meant for long stretches at a time instead of individual games. All offenses are like that. I'll see if I can find a way to analyze this for the Cubs compared to the other teams, though.
  4. Outstanding! I didn't think we'd have a chance at him.
  5. Just a reminder. This lineup scored 10 runs for us today even though Bryant left early. I love this team. 23, 24, 26, 24, 22, 26, 22, 22 year old position players.
  6. ...And the trainer is out to the mound to visit Norris. ------ eta And he's out of the game.
  7. I'm just watching him on ESPN right now. When he's in the zone he is a bloody good pitcher.
  8. That is closer to a tossup for me with Salazar already 5-6 years removed from TJ surgery. Already his walks have flown up this year after throwing 185 innings last year, which is not a promising sign when making a trade that already has some eye on 2018's rotation and need for innings. Indians being 17 games over .500 with a 92.4% chance of making the playoffs according to FanGraphs probably won't help make him more available either. Of course he's not available. Not saying that. We had a long, multi-person debate over the winter about the relative merits of those two. I'm simply saying that I still consider Salazar to be a much better pitcher.
  9. Why would first place Cleveland trade Salazar? It was an argument from last winter when it was rumored that Cleveland would trade one of their pitchers to get hitting.
  10. For the record, I still prefer Salazar over Teheran about 100 times in 100.
  11. I think we're cheering for the pirates these days, right? They're only 1.5 in back of the Cards, so it doesn't matter that much. Personally, though, I'll always cheer for anyone vs the Cards.
  12. Decent outing from Tseng today. He cruised through the first six and then gave up a two run home run in the seventh. 3K's, 1 walk.
  13. oof So glad the Cubs went with a hitter first rebuild.
  14. Zagunis with a HR in the first for Iowa. He'd become very interesting if he could develop a useful level of power.
  15. Yes, a 100 wRC+ is league average, by definition. That doesn't mean it is league median, though. The pitching was pretty good until the last turn through the rotation. For example, the staff had an ERA of 3.12 in the month of June, which was good for third in MLB. The starters were even better with a 2.76 ERA for the month (second behind Cleveland). It was really just the last turn through the rotation and recency bias making things feel worse that that. ------------------------- eta Actually league average wRC+ is 96 this year for some reason.
  16. Only seven? Hot weather, wind forecasted to be blowing straight out. This is the game the Cubs hit the elusive 20 run barrier.
  17. in 420 PA Gotta figure that 68 UZR/150 is coming down He's up to 128 IP now...it's holding steady at 67.8
  18. I"ll leave that one for Duke or TT. :) Sounds like a good idea. :-) :good: The first question is whether the pitching is really struggling outside of the last turn through the rotation.
  19. Ask them who specifically it is hurting. Is it Bryant? Because he's the MVP so far. Is it Javy, who is having the best success of his career? Contreras who is succeeding like crazy in his first MLB stint? Those are really the only guys moving around a lot.
  20. Except, if you read the article, that isn't true at all.
  21. I"ll leave that one for Duke or TT. :)
  22. Pirates are up on the cards in the 7th. Lead could grow back to nine games pretty shortly.
  23. Excellent. I don't really have any expectations for this class, but I'm at least hopeful about a few of these guys.
  24. I'd be interested in a rebuttal from anyone who thinks the offense is struggling.
