  1. Over 162 games that's an awful lot more. Cubs leadoff spot, 2005: .299 OBP Juan Pierre, 2006: .284 OBP Who all batted leadoff and for how many at bats? If you got your stats from the website, what is the link. I'm not doubting you, I'm just curious. I tried to look it up on BP but I couldn't find it. ESPN 689 ABs (Breakdown) Trans missed the real point on this though....last year 83 runs and 16 total sbs from the #1 slot. So far this year, 14 runs and 7 sbs- which works out to 119 runs and 56 sbs. To me that is a hell of a lot more production, although Pierre's numbers arent quite there yet.
  2. Something else to think about too for all of you stat geeks out there.... do you guys really think it is an accident that the Cubs lead the league in average with runners on and with runners in scoring position? How do you really quantify the effect that Pierre has on the basepaths when the pitcher starts paying more attention to him than the hitter at the plate with your silly little numbers? Just look at TWalks numbers that have decreased over the last week since he was put in the #3 spot and Cedeno getting hot in the #2? Coincidence? Possibly, but I doubt it.
  3. Read stat lines to educate yourself and you will know why. As Karros said last nite, Wrigley in April blows for hitters. Juan Pierre .340/.354 away compared to .179/.207 at home. When the weather heats up, so will Juan and ARam...just going to have to be patient until then.
  4. Hairston has hit .300 against Willis and should be able to see Olsen fairly well on Wednesday, so he should be starting. I would not be shocked to see ARam off on Wed if he continues to struggle. Mabry (if TWalk can continue to go) or the Neifury should start at 3b in that case. Look for Restovich to pop in one day for Jones or Murton. What I am dreading is another night/day game switch....which means the White Out will be starting behind the plate. Mr. 091 is a lifetime .188 hitter in over 100 ABs against the fighting fish which doesnt bode well for us. Hopefully dusty will start him Tues nite with Marshall and let Barrett try and deal with the rookie Guzman on Wednesday.
  5. you guys dont look/get stat sheets? The Neifury vs Vargas....3 for 3 lifetime going into the game (and the only hit through 6)....pwn. Good job Dusty.
  6. C'mon, let's not call out particular posters and pick on them -- dredging up the Sanchez stuff is calculated to do just that. It has no bearing on this conversation. Aw, thats just rocket. But i am glad he asked. Sanchez is tearing up Double A ball for the Chattanooga Lookouts. Hitting .333 with 2 HRs and batting 5th. Had a 3 run jack on the Jaxx the other nite. Should be up to AAA in a couple of weeks, but probably doesnt have a future as a Red because of Cody Ross. Will make some trade bait down the line though. How is CPatt doing in Baltimore btw? thought so (can you say AAAA?)
  7. Do not mess with the Neifury. It is not up to mere mortals to understand or even begin to comprehend the power of the Neifury. You will not like it when if the Neifury turns on you.
  8. Micah Hoffpauir is playing out of his mind. I cant believe he is back in AA again this year. He has to be the next one up if something happens or if Walker's back gets worse.
  9. I apologize for what i said earlier. Jones clearly does not have Pattersonitis, because he hit a homer when it mattered.
  10. i hope he isnt coming down with Pattersonitis.....
  11. it only took 74 years to address one of the 3 curses. a good step towards winning a World Series in a couple of years imo when the 100 year curse is over. Now if we can only do something about that other curse, we will be in good shape.
  12. I actually agree with the way the umpires handled it. They had a meeting with both teams before the game and let both managers and pitchers know they were not going to tolerate anymore foolishness. I understand that Morris has wild spurts like Wood and Zambrano, but it was the 2nd guy he hit in the 1st inning that got him launched. It was just bad timing. The umps erred on the side of caution instead of seeing someone actually get hurt (this isnt hockey for Gods sakes). A Giant did get hit in the 6th and the Rockie pitcher did not get tossed because the umps didnt feel that it was warranted. However, when King plunked Vizquel in the 8th, there was little that they could do and had to throw him out for that. (I miss Ray King on our club, he has a great attitude). So in short, kudos to the umps for handling it the way that they did. They took a bad situation and did the best they could with it. Its up to Watson and company to sort it out and make sure it doesnt happen again. In other words, I really miss Frank Robinson in that job.
  13. Horrific game by DJaxx tonight. JR Mathes was challenging hitters, and his defense was letting him down. Moore, Rojas, Richie, and Walker had no idea what was going on in the field. Rojas spent the better part of the game letting the ball play him. Moore was 2 steps late for everything hit his way (except one liner he ranged to his left for). Walker was just kind of hanging out. Richie was bullfighting behind the plate. A couple of positives. Patterson actually uses 2 hands at 2b...maybe he could teach his brother that. he also had a ringing single. he looks to be really quick and has a build very similar to his brother. Greenberg did a good job out in RF and was busy in the 2nd half of the game. Reyes has some skills and might make it to the show. He threw out a runner at 3b from his knees on a straight double steal (although the replacement ump called him safe as he was making the call from 2b...for the love of god, the ball beat the runner by 2 feet). That call really cost us the game, or an outside shot of it. The left handed reliever who threw the ninth also has some skills, just needs to work on his offspeed pitch to go with the fastball. it looked like a slider that he was working on, but he was having trouble consistently spotting it. The umpires were awful, as they are replacements i guess. The 1b ump managed to cost the Lookouts 2 additional runs by missing a foul line call. He blew 3 in total. The 3b ump missed 2 calls. The homeplate ump was calling low and to the left side. He was fairly consistent upsetting both sides, but missed that last K in the 9th to Hoffpauir by a foot. I couldnt believe that call. My biggest gripe of the evening was the Jaxx managing. I realize it was the 16th game and Herr was only batting .225, but no way should he have gotten a ball to hit in the 2nd (which he did for a 3 run jack) with first base open and 2 outs. Skipper should have walked him and set up the lefty lefty matchup with Senchez who was on deck. Parting gift for the evening for the Cub fans in attendance explains my life of misery as a Cub fan. the DJaxx section (111) was selected for the Advanced Auto Wipe Out Award. Since Mr Moore didnt have a clue that we were playing a game tonight (0-4 with 3ks and a whopping 15ft cue shot to the pitcher with runners on 1st and 2nd and 2 out), his strike out in the 6th won us all a free bottle of windshield wiper fluid. yipee, finally rewarded for the lousy play all these years....who knew. 6 scouts in the crowd- including one from the Cubs, Brewers, and Reds.
  14. Lol. My math is OK, but my typing is off. Maybe I can get some type of Yanr award for that. 78-84.
  15. Obviously you havent been a Cub fan long. I am 3rd generation. After the first generation or so, all hope disappears. The 2nd generation brings bitter disappointment and disillusionment. With the 3rd generation comes comedy, acceptance, and understanding the art form. It isnt IF the Cubs will fail so much, as how they will do it. They always amaze and break new ground in this area. Like watching Opera. Great singing and fine music, but the really good part is in the intangible area. Now dont get me wrong, I enjoy a good Cubs victory just like everyone else. I just try to avoid the suicidal lows associated with any kind of hope whatsoever. The "safe" money on the Cubs will always follow Murphy's Law. We were doomed when the first expert picked us to win it all this year. Pessimistic? Perhaps, but Realistic. Life is pain; anyone who tells you different is trying to sell you something.
  16. Welcome back to Earth. I said (and please Raw feel free to correct me  ) No more than .285/.330; 20 to 25 HRs; and less than .250 RISP. I did miss the record though. I thought the Cubs would go 78-94 this year and keep the streak alive at 33. I did predict 3rd place accurately however, behind the Astros and Cards.
  17. I havent been wrong yet. SPS and I went way out on the ledge and predicted that the Cubs wouldnt make the playoffs this year before the season started. My CP predictions are well known, and CP didnt make any of those either. So I am 2-2 so far. :P I think that DuBois will be a little less talented than the 98 Grieve.
  18. Grieve was an AllStar in '98. He put up solid numbers in Oakland and TB, before losing his mind a few years ago. Dont know if he had an injury or such, but clearly a drop from 25 HRs on Average to 10 is not good. I just hope he wasnt in the Spinach juice.
  19. As probably one of the few posters that have actually seen Dubois play more than a couple games, I can assure you that most of what you are hearing is hype. He will be the '05 version of Hill and Choi, but with a lot less talent. Can he be a MLB player? Yes. Can he make it as a starter? Probably. Will he be a star? No. I would project him to hit around .265ish with 25 HRs a year. I would compare him to Grieve. Not bad, but not a perennial AllStar. And a ton of fricking Ks.
  20. I am still here. I am just wondering about the wiseness of this. Basically giving up Jones, Harris, Beltran, and AGonz for a 2 1/2 month rental. If Nomar re-signs, I may be impressed- but yeah, we still need a leadoff hitter.
