I can understand the NY Yankee thing. Hate them or love them, they represent the #1 city (in population) in the country. They are also the most successful organization of All Time in baseball, and have several teams worthy of All Time Greatest distinction. They have also been a regular soap opera that has been running since the Mid 30s with such diverse plot lines as Lou Gehrig and his disease, the undoing of the Babe then his replacement Dimaggio, Joe McCarthy (god, it pains me to say that...no telling how many Championships he would have led us to, if they hadnt signed him away from us), Dimaggio and Monroe, Mantle and his home run chase, Yogi Berra being Yogi Berra, Thurman Munson and his untimely death, the whole Martin-Boss thing, Reggie Reggie, Goose, Steve Howe's reemergence, and the new Yanks led by Jeter. Face it, the Yanks are the Yanks and people will always be interested in them. How many other teams have that kind of history in even sports? But the Red Sox thing....that is a mystery to me. They are a bunch of bums and always will be. I guess it is the media hype of "Good" trying to overtake "Evil" with Yaz, Carbo, and Fisk (good guys) that went on in the 70s. There is a Special 5 pm Sportscenter btw tomorrow highlighting the 100 years of matchups or some such nonsense for an hour before the game itself.
