  1. If ARam doesnt get a hit in his next AB, then Neifi should take over at 3b the rest of the year. At least the Neifury can field.
  2. dodgers score..up 2-0 on zona in the 2nd
  3. um yeah. we are playing 17 in a row. trying to get our pen through thanks to our wonder boy Glendon.
  4. more bad news....Stros tie it at 2 in milky.
  5. Overweight and a lack of talent. He just had a good year in 2003. Last season was pretty typical. Most of our fans just have unrealistic expectations for him.
  6. Good move by Dusty. Cubs have 17 in a row and after Rusch's masterful performance, Marshall can eat a couple of innings to help the ole pen out.
  7. Freaking Wilsons. Everytime we lose to the Pirates, they are involved. Jack Wilson = Jeff Blauser imo.
  8. Reds back in first. Milky tied with the Stros 1-1 in the 7th.
  9. Only 4 managers have ever been +.500 8 years in a row in the entire history of the National League. One of those 4 is Dusty. Cox, Clarke, and Alston are the others.
  10. Yep. Heard that from a couple of different outlets, and i think it is a shame, especially the way he has been treated in Chicago. Dusty will end up with 2000 wins as a manager and will be in the Hall of Fame before it is over.
  11. Rome had the dude from the Houston Chronicle on this afternoon. Guy said Clemens is looking for around $3M a month and perks. Clemens kids actually want him to return to Boston, who according to this guy, is willing to retire his number for him. But Clemens has too much respect for Joe Torre to do that also according to this guy. So who knows? Maybe Texas can find a bullpen (for God's sake, Alf is the setup man) and make him a really nice offer.
  12. Baker is more than likely going to Arizona next year to be their manager. And we are going to be sorry when we end up with Jeff freaking Torborg.
  13. They rotate the 4 slots. I was amused the other nite in Milwaukee when Skip and Chip were doing the game. They took turns doing play by play. The big topic of discussion was the Harry Caray Bandit who is apparently robbing banks in the Chicagoland area. That being said, I hope Atlanta trades him to Tokyo.
  14. Wilson and Griffey should start this week for Louisville. Milton has reported to the Minor League Camp to begin rehab on his injury and should begin his rehab starts probably next week, according to Mr Grande on the telecast tonight.
  15. One of the ESPN dudes said that during a telecast. And the Dodgers in all seriousness are mad at the Cubs and wont deal with us anymore because of Hendry. They are apparently still upset about the Hundley trade. I dont blame them, lol. Wow, was that just an awful trade in hindsight.
  16. I can understand the NY Yankee thing. Hate them or love them, they represent the #1 city (in population) in the country. They are also the most successful organization of All Time in baseball, and have several teams worthy of All Time Greatest distinction. They have also been a regular soap opera that has been running since the Mid 30s with such diverse plot lines as Lou Gehrig and his disease, the undoing of the Babe then his replacement Dimaggio, Joe McCarthy (god, it pains me to say that...no telling how many Championships he would have led us to, if they hadnt signed him away from us), Dimaggio and Monroe, Mantle and his home run chase, Yogi Berra being Yogi Berra, Thurman Munson and his untimely death, the whole Martin-Boss thing, Reggie Reggie, Goose, Steve Howe's reemergence, and the new Yanks led by Jeter. Face it, the Yanks are the Yanks and people will always be interested in them. How many other teams have that kind of history in even sports? But the Red Sox thing....that is a mystery to me. They are a bunch of bums and always will be. I guess it is the media hype of "Good" trying to overtake "Evil" with Yaz, Carbo, and Fisk (good guys) that went on in the 70s. There is a Special 5 pm Sportscenter btw tomorrow highlighting the 100 years of matchups or some such nonsense for an hour before the game itself.
  17. thurman munson, an amazing catcher. here is a link to the Milky paper on Active baseball deaths over the last 30 years, but it includes out of season deaths as well. Journal Sentinel There is also a baseball website that tracks player deaths...will try to find the link. Edit: Found it...enjoy! You can spend several hours looking at it
  18. Mr Richards is in the hospital in NZ after falling out of a coconut tree. Someone needs to tell him that 62 year olds dont need to be in trees. As if this wasnt enuff, he got up and got onto his Sea Doo and had another accident. Richards Lucky for him, Mick wasnt around. The accident might have been "permanent" then.
  19. Ohman has to go. Keep Rusch for long relief and bring up Hill, until Williams can come back. Good lord.... Zambrano, Hill, Maddux, Marshall, and Guzman. Long Relief...Rusch Mid Relief...Novoa/Aardsma Set up...Williamson/Eyre/Howry Closer...Dempster The other option would be to send Rusch to Atlanta so they can get rid of Sosa, who is one of the worst starting pitchers i have personally ever seen (this guy makes Sean Estes look like Walter Johnson). Dont know what they would be willing to give us, but I dont want to help them really that much either because we will be fighting later on for a wild card with them. Hendry is going to have to make trades eventually anyway with 6 roster spots needed for all the DL type people. Edit: and welcome to the forums...
  20. Furcal is another slow starter who usually heats up Post All Star Break. And I cant wait for one to see him again. Hopefully Mr Wood or Z can buzz his head for the damage done. Dont get mad, just get even. Ve Have vays of Gezting Even. Ve vill teach you not to run inside the baseline.
  21. Also the Devil Rays have stated they are going to add to the suspension whatever the International League decides. I guess they are really concerned because of his numerous past transgressions and want to make sure that the organization gets his attention this time around. I think this is a real class move on their part.
  22. Just 2 seperate stat lines: Pre All Star .289/.343 Post All Star .320/.365 Day Games .344/.394 Night Games .285/.334
  23. The Curse of the Witch is a rather murky story involving Voodoo and some other stuff from 1908. It has long been rumored to do with several things the Cubs were involved in. Like the 1932 curse, it is another Curse of Hubris. It has to do with the Game covered most excellently by Wiley here 1908 that probably led to the eventual formation of the Negro Leagues. Apparently at some point the story goes that Rube or one of his cohorts contacted a local medicine woman to place a curse on the Cubs for 100 years for the chicanery that was happening. The rest as they say is history and our only 2 Modern Championships remain 1907 and 1908. I will dig a little deeper and see if i can find some more facts or another reference for you. Edit: There apparently is an alternate version of this story as well. The alternate story has to do with the NY Giants tieing to the Cubs on Sept 23rd, 1908 in the infamous play known as Merkle's Boner. In that story, the Witch was hired by disgruntled Giant fans for the behavior of Chance, the Cub fans, and the Cubs after the Game was over. It eventually led to the Giants and Cubs meeting on October 8th to determine the NL Champ, which the Cubs won en route to the series victory over the Tigers.
  24. I dont have a oujia board with me. Can someone break theirs out and check on our status with the Ruth now? It would be nice if we could put one of the 3 curses to rest, and having his daughter and grandson sing was a nice touch. Hopefully the hard feelings from '32 will ease and that curse will be broken. Now for the damn Goat and Witch.
  25. Que? duh thats the sox not the mets....was thinking tidewater for some reason. guess i am a dope
