  1. I could do a better job as GM of the Cubs....Anyway, all I would do is listen to Meph and do what he tells me to do.
  2. Or maybe your standards are lower then mine. Because any GM who wants to win, and does whatever takes (not necessarily meaning stupid trades, signings) to win, and does this consistantly, is in my book, a good GM. Maybe your not use to the idea of a GM who wants to win, because Hendry definately does want to win. Hendry does get his fair share of blame, but it's not because he isn't trying. I honestly believe people on this board, underrate Hendry as a GM. Actually winning >>>>>>>>>>>> Desire to win That falls on the players to play, and the manager to managed the players. Not the GM. Hendry, IMO, has done an admirably job putting together this team. That's not to say there isn't holes in the team....as of right now, until proven otherwise, the Cubs have holes at CF/SS and C. But otherwise, the Cubs are in good shape to repeat as NL Central champs. You just called GEOVANY SOTO a hole. Around here the ground that Soto walks on is considered holy, and he is a shoo-in to win the next 47 MVP awards...so you're wrong. Felix Pie is really good too....but back to the point of you're post......Hendry sucks....
  3. The Braves also look pretty good IMO.
  4. the Cubs clearly have the best line-up in the NL Central. Milwaukee is a close second. Are you joking? I think it's pretty obvious that the Brewers still have a better lineup. We ere a medicore offense last year and we've marginally upgraded. I think people are severly overestimating the upgrade that Fukudome brings. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the signing, but better thaan the Brewers? Get outta here. Even if Soto performs to his potential the Brewers likely still have the better offense. As has been said, I don't know where this "top 5 offense" stuff is coming from. We're not even a top 5 offense in the NL, let alone all of baseball. Eh, most of that is probably true, but we do have a top 5 in the NL. All of baseball? No. NL? Most definitely(-Devin Hester). I'd say Phillies Rockies Brewers Cubs Reds Mets (over rated)

  6. "The pitch to Aramis, there's a drive, DEEP LEFT CENTER!!! CUBS(/voice crack) WIN!!!!!! THEY WIN IT! Ramirez, 2-run shot. Oh baby! Can you believe it?!?! Unbelievable!" My favorite call of the year....I actually really like Len.
  7. lol it's almost like this has happened before or something. it'll be weeks; pray it won't be even more. I said this in the game thread, but I currently have the tip of my middle finger broken, and I bet its 2-3 weeks before practicing, and longer before games. There is absolutely no grip strength and lots of discomfort. I am at 2 weeks right now, still splinted, and lifting a towel (insert towel drill joke here) is tough. I can't imagine without the splint. Not to be a downer, just my 20 pesos. Some guys would be out 3-5 days with a hangnail. I realize it's not a serious fracture, but even with a small deal like this it's silly to throw the guy back out there in less than a week. Common sense dictates he's going to be out longer. I can't believe the Cubs continue to try and sell people on these ridiculously over-optimistic injury estimates. They have trained people to assume the whole 3x what they say thing, so if they said the legit time of 2-3 weeks people would panic and assume a couple months, which would be giving false information :starwars2: :oldbluekoolaid:
  8. I don't think he is even a real person.
  9. If you think about it, it's just really sad that Kerry Wood has had such an injury ridden career. The guy possessed a practically superhuman talent that was flat out head and shoulders above anybody else, he could have been the greatest pitcher to ever play the game. Even as a rookie in 1998, when 40 home runs wasn't even that great, Kerry Wood could make juiced up Major Leaguers look like they were little leaguers, he could dominate them like it was nobody's business...Kerry Wood is and will always be one of my favorite Cubs, he's a class act and plays the game the right way. Thanks for sticking with us, Mark you should have taken notes. I hope Kerry dominates the league this year...here's his 20k game, Kerry Wood 20K Game He went up against a good team, a lineup with 2 Hall of Famers in it as well, and in just the 5th start of his whole career, matches the record for K's in a game...I know you all know this, but just to remind everyone just how good he was.
  10. It is never the time for that.
  11. H*LL NAW
  12. LOL my bad...shoulda known...I really don't care about this trade anymore, and honestly we would probably be better off not making it....we would be giving up the only SS we have that could potentially be average to above average, a SP who could POTENTIALLY be our 4th best starter, a solid pitching prospect, and possibly a 4th player....not worth it....for a short stop equal in quality to Roberts? I would do it in a second, but not for a position that we already have a solid player at while giving up two players who are better than the players we have in those spots right now.
  13. We hope were making progress, you certainly can not say we know based on the word of an OHer.
  14. Getting Ross would be amazing, he would be a good platoon partner for Pie and if Pie figures out how to hit lefties (hopefully, but probably an unrealistic hope...his minor league splits show hes very bad against lefties, although he did hit lefties much better while playing for Licey...but that is just a winter league...bleh), Ross would be a good bat off the bench to mash lefties. His career line vs. Southpaws is .301/.369/.639 niceeeee. Anyway a platoon of Ross and Pie would put up well above average offensive numbers.
  15. Yeah, we'll see Yeah, not holding my breath. Yeah, another response with yeah in it. Yeah, he's been right about everything else so far. Seriously, one of these times one of those idiots will win the lottery and something their "guy/source" tells them will come true. Yeah, Yeah
  16. I kind of wish we just had gotten Josh Hamilton....then we could have used Pie to trade for a top pitcher. The middle of the lineup could have been deadly. Who would it have taken? Gallagher? Marshall? Marshall is only one year older than Volquez with much more impressive numbers in the minors, plus more proven in the majors, where he has a season of 100+ innings with a sub-4 ERA and good control (above average BB/9 in 2007) and averaged 8.774 K/9 in the minor leagues. I know this is meaningless now, but looking back on it, I wish it is what we had done. Dream Lineup 1. Roberts S (2B) 2. Fukudome L (RF) 3. Lee R (1B) 4. Ramirez R (3B) 5. Soriano R (LF) 6. Hamilton L (CF) 7. Soto R © 8. Cedeno R (SS) A full lineup of above average to excellent hitters, no weak spots, all play above average defense. Whatever, too late now.
  17. The Cubs aren't getting traded, the Brewers are.
  18. you realize people were suggesting if the cubs trade pie they should make a effort to go get Coco Crisp. Trading Pie would be a gawd awful mistake. Why does anyone put any stock into his short time in the Majors? Have any of you doubter taken a look at his minor league #'s? The kid mashes baseballs and he has a good shot at becoming an outstanding player. Pie's sample in Chicago is just as reliable as Theriot's 06 or Fontenot's first month (June). This is just stupid, but if he flops we have the ALMIGHTY Sam Fuld right.......yay fall league MVP wooo! (sarcasm....sorry some people can't tell) Pie's hitting should come around eventually, and who knows, he may crush the ball from the start, but even if he is hitting .230 with a .290 OBP for a couple months before he figures it out, he will still be more productive than Jones was over that time span last year, while playing stellar defense. I really do believe Pie will be good.
  19. The next player you start to put on your wall tell us so we will know hes going to flop/get injured every year, and please don't put any current players on your wall, especially Pie, or Soto.
  20. I hate sports writers, except for Bruce Miles, duh.
  21. Your hitting is quite optimistic.
  22. 23. Funny Meph, now can we see what you really think?
