  1. If Bryant is acquitting himself okay at 3B, I have my doubts that they'll mess around with his position. Maybe if Russell is pulling a Bryant at Iowa and there's a huge hole in the OF(both Coghlan/Denorfia suck, long term Fowler injury, etc), but in the more likely case the difference from the platoon to Russell for a couple months is not going to be a large enough difference to justify changing Bryant's position. Not that it can't or even won't happen, but we're talking about degrees of certainty about Russell being up this summer. They might put Russell in the outfield ala Miggy with the Marlins in 03 if he's killing it in AAA. Given everything we know about both, why would they rather have Russell in the OF and Bryant at 3B than the opposite? Because Russell is be a better LF than Bryant. If Bryant is doing well there is no reason to move him off of 3rd base in the middle of his rookie season. Lol there are so many things you don't understand. Russell is also going to be a better 3B than Bryant, and 3B is a more important defensive position than LF.
  2. I think the safe bet is that he's a September call up at best, but there's a lot of moving pieces. Number 1 is his performance at Iowa, if he's got a .900+ OPS at the all-star break there's going to be some pressure to put him on the MLB roster. After that it depends a bit on MLB need and how the team is doing in the standings. Bryant's 3B defense and the bats of Baez, Alcantara, and to a lesser extent La Stella will all dictate that. I doubt they'll call Russell up before September if he's not going to be playing every day, so he'd need an opening, or one to be created for him with a deadline deal. Or if we trade Russell mid-season for an upgrade elsewhere. Do not trade Russell.
  3. You're 23. Your opinions are probably still pretty bad. Very possible, but I have some minor credibility in the baseball analytics world, so I'd like to think I'm not a complete idiot about this stuff by now.
  4. Nah, he's better than most posters here. I'll grant you that this site has nearly 5000 registered posters, and that the vast majority of them post infrequently, if at all. That said, I still disagree with your premise. Despite his flaws, Kyle is actually one of the better posters here. Unrelated - remember when people used to defend meph? Yeah, but Kyle is more capable of knowing he's wrong sometimes than Meph ever was. ETA: Defending Meph was pretty bad. Although hell, I thought he had some good contributions, but I was 15 when I joined the board and probably had far worse opinions back then.

  6. What is happening to Kyle right now? Trolling? ETA: never mind, obvious troll.
  7. Pretty fun video. I'm going to cry like a baby if/when the Cubs win the World Series.
  8. Hanging out with Jon Bostic right now haha. Pulled a douche move and asked him who the next coach was going to be. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Do they not still do that? I know it's not in the free story but I thought it was included in the book and the subscription. The paid version has that stuff. Well [expletive] that. Don't offer it for free for a decade and decide to change it, BA! Go back, I posted the three you asked about. ETA: Putting it here instead.

  11. Hah. Glad he got somewhat hot. 7-18 in the second half. PS I really hope that someday everyone can constantly call me out for being critical of Rose because he's back to being a star. I really really hope so. I feel so conflicted because I havent loved a player as much as Rose since I was like 12 when all my favorite teams players were demigods. But the things he said and done and the way he's played have frustrated me to the point of being critical. Maybe unfair but whatever. I can't change how I feel although I'd like to and hopefully I can someday soon. Yeah, how dare the guy go out and tear both ACLs and then take time to heal. I can't believe he didn't score 45 points in his first game back. And then he had the gall to miss games during the season, as if he were some guy that had reason to gradually work into game shape. The nerve! He absolutely deserves the criticism for the way he handled the returns from the injuries, but the stuff UMFan is doing now with his play and bitching about something every other post is just meatballery. I do agree one other thing. I just don't love him like I did anymore. He's just a guy now. My heart is with Jimmy. I'm not super well versed in advanced stats for the NBA, but Butler's WS/48 is at .234 this year, and Rose's best was .211 ('11-'12). Rose was at .208 in his MVP year. Jimmy is the Bulls' superstar, and according to that is better than Rose ever has been. ETA - Bulls' top 5 this year: 1. Butler (.234) - 8th best in the NBA 2. Mirotic (.200) 3. Gibson (.160) 4. Gasol (.156) 5. Noah (.135) ... 8. Rose (.049) Bulls' top 5 in 2010-2011: 1. Rose (.208) - 10th best in the NBA 2. Noah (.205) 3. Deng (.149) 4. Boozer (.149) 5. Korver (.149)
  12. This is beyond dumb. Coaches/instructors have recognized it and tried to work on it with catchers for years and years before it was ever a thing among advanced metric people. I know I was a catcher. You work hard on setting up, making a good target and having a quiet body. but whether a strike gets called is beyond your control. Spoken like someone who lost a lot of called strikes as a catcher. I played some catcher too. It's definitely a skill. You have a lot of bad opinions.
  13. Once In a sustainable fashion (in terms of the way he pitched). What does that mean? Throwing sliders at an all time high rate? Don't act like you don't understand what he's saying. This isn't a guy who put up a crazy ERA with an average FIP. His FIP was actually better than his ERA. His numbers were legitimate. The slider/cutter usage is somewhat concerning, but if he stays healthy he's a stud. Arrieta may be a bigger injury risk than an average pitcher, but projecting him for only 4 WAR is probably factoring that in already. Fully healthy Arrieta could be a 6 win pitcher.
  14. I think you are way too low on Arrieta if you think 4 WAR is "way too high." Injury is the main reason he may not reach that point. He pitched way better than that last year. He was a top 5 starter in baseball.
  15. Arrieta.
  16. No might about it. Arrieta > Samardzija. I still think Jake is our best pitcher. ETA: Didn't see David already said the same about Jake being our best starter. I agree.
  17. Lol, I thought you could be, but I wasn't sure because I thought I remembered some people saying they actually wanted him. I couldn't remember if you were one of them.
  18. Velo dropped nearly 3 MPH last year, I'm scared he's broken. I'm fine with this.
  19. I agree with you, but it's much easier to think of him as dumb because I still can't get over Otsuka/Eaton for Gonzalez/Young Yeah, that was one of 16 trades he made that year alone. He basically came in and wanted to change the organization from top to bottom and became a baseball GM day trader. Daniels has made some ridiculously lopsided trades one way or the other. It's not very often both teams came out well. Elrhino, you make some good points. I don't think Daniels is bad, never said he was. I just don't think he's necessarily as good as people thought he was a couple years ago. He is clearly more than competent, but he's made some really awful moves. My buddy was just acting like Daniels walked on water and was head and shoulders above any other FO guy in the game, which I disagreed with then and still do now.
  20. I'm assuming you're a Jeff Sullivan > Dave Cameron guy?
  21. This is so damn sexy.
  22. Travis Wood in Texas? That would be fun bad. Remember when people thought Jon Daniels was an elite FO guy? LOL. My friend who was working with the Reds (and is no longer with them) was drooling over him 2 years ago at the SABR conference. That was short lived.
