  1. So he'll be injured even if he isn't? And are you suggesting that the Cubs and the media should just stop giving us updates? I would think that a lot of people have interest in Prior's first step in coming back from this shoulder strain. I would also classify going from not throwing to throwing as a change. The Cubs have sugarcoated EVERY injury in the last three years. We're supposed to believe all of a sudden he's healthy and pain free? He certainly didn't pitch that much to get hurt, what's to say the next time he gets to a mound, it doesn't start hurting again? You really think 10 days of rest time is gonna heal this injury, even when he was being pampered and coddled all spring? I love Mark Prior, but if you're not skeptical with this team and how it treats injuries, you'll just keep getting fooled. I won't believe he's healthy until he pitches to batters in his Minor League rehab starts.
  2. Kerry will be starting before Prior. You heard it here first. (oh and be prepared for the Giles argument re: Jones)
  3. I'm actually encouraged by the way the team has been with runners in scoring position and less than two outs. Alot of Sacrifices, timely base hits, good run scoring ground outs. If we can just hang in there through April, we might be pleasantly surprised. As I noted on the game thread Eyre has been lights out this spring 3 hits in almost 9 scoreless innings (I know that doesn't mean awhole lot yet) and Howry has been very good except one appearance. I was never upset with Hendry for these signings, and with Williamson, Ohman, and Dempster Hendry might have assembled one of the best if not THE best bullpen in the National League. I think some of the skeptics may be proven wrong with the signings of Howry and Eyre (although they will probably just say the knew they'd do well but we shouldn't have focused on that area if they DO do well). I'm still pissed about Jockstrap, Grissom (maybe getting the nod with his experience), and the signing of Neifi, but we might just be ok. I am alot more optimistic now than I was 4 months ago. (Not sure if I answerd your question)
  4. What a spring training for Eyre. If he keeps this up, he's gonna prove a lot of skeptics wrong.
  5. .484/.556/.710/1.266 - not including today. I love Matt Murton in a very heterosexual sort of way. (not that there's anything wrong with THAT)
  6. i hate to say i told you so...wait, no i don't You were supposed to quote me. And I can admit when I'm wrong. I was wrong.
  7. The Chicago Tribune article from tonight/tomorrow does not sound good. Dusty once again saying past numbers matter since Grissom is a vet.
  8. I'd like to see this guy make the team over Grissom.
  9. (from http://www.chicagotribune.com) interesting part in Bold.
  10. you're right, he just never got a chance to prove himself in that type of situation...now that's completely ridiculous what the hell are you even talking about now? prove himself in what type of situation? What did you say is "ridiculous"? . You equating invading a country while ditching out yourself as having balls. That's ridiculous.
  11. you're right, he just never got a chance to prove himself in that type of situation...now that's completely ridiculous what the hell are you even talking about now? prove himself in what type of situation? The type where you have big balls for sending in kids to war, knowing full well none of your friends, or their friends kids' will have to go because of their social class. It has to be that since he ditched out on the National Guard.
  12. blah blah blah  guess you've heard that before. Maybe there's some truth to it... Actually, it's probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen written, but whatever floats your boat.
  13. thought this would help although we've heard that recently before :? (from yahoo sports)
  14. the word is apart, not a part /end picking apart minor section of post Dude, the guy is from Korea, English might not be his first language. Cut him some slack.
  15. Seriously, how many sac flies/good run scoring ground outs have we had this spring already? Seems like more than all of last year.
  16. So First inning racap? Is this correct: Pierre Singles Pierre Steals 2nd Walker singles, Pierre to third. Aramis Singles, Pierre scores, Walker to Third Jacque Jones sacrifice Fly, Walker scores, Aramis still at first. Mabry grounds into DP.
  17. Well he did suck and failed miserably at running the Texas Rangers. Actually, financially, he did very well running the Rangers. He's primarily responsible for getting the new ballpark together, which was the catalyst for the Rangers' run of strong play in the mid-late 1990s. Attendance and revenues were the highest in team history in the final year of his tenure. The value of hte franchise rose as well- his $606,000 ownership share was worth almost $15 million by the time he sold it in 1994. Really, He did a pretty solid job-one could argue an outstanding job based upon previous Rangers' owners- as managing partner of the Rangers- granted, I think the qualities needed for that are far different than those needed for President. He was a great lobbyist for baseball in the state and nationally, and the players association and the owners were both very complimentary of his attempts to avoid the work stoppage in 1994- some of the MLBPA board even calling for him to become MLB commish if he lost the Texas Governor race he has resigend in order to pursue. Actually, I think being MLB commish might be a better role for him than President- conservative/liberal/religious doesn't matter so much in baseball. He can't deficit spend as MLB commish, nor can he send ballplayers to war. As for throwing out the first pitch- Baseball games are no place for politics, so I think it's great the President (whatever his name or party might be) is throwing out the first pitch at America's National Pastime. That's an instance where I applaud the position, not the man. Granted, If he tries to give a speech, I might change my opinion, LOL! I can hear it now: "It's an honor to be here in Cinshinastickti. [insert cheesy grin] As many of you can rememberate, I was involved with the sport of basebulb for many years." Well I guess whatever I heard otherwise, must be incorrect. I thought I heard he was a monumental failure as the head of the Rangers.
