  1. this is cute. you accuse me of throwing a spin on something, but then you do the exact same thing. i'm done arguing with you, as you obviously can't do so without being hypocritical. nice use of the end of my post there, though. glad to see the originality in there. (before you post it, here you go: omg but u used my just an fyi!! ur a hypocrite!!) I'm not spinning anything. I agree 100% with Fred that Neifi is not getting the preferential treatment that he got last year. You spun an argument to show that neifi still started. The numbers prove no special treatment no matter how you slice it. If you assume Aramis is healthy Neifi gets the same 3 starts he got when aramis wasn't healthy. What spin am I trying to do? There is no spin and no hypocricy. LAst year Neifi was favored, this year he really hasn't been. And when he was brought in "for Lee" he responded with a run scoring defensive play and an offensive spark the next inning. Sure blind squirrels can find nuts every once in awhile, but it happened so complaining about the insertion of Neifi into a game in which he positively contributed doesn't make sense. I liked the end of your post and had a good mocking/condescending tone to it so you should feel complimented that I copied it. You can use the end of any of my posts ltb.
  2. I think you should quit assuming I don't know these things. I am well aware that Neifi started because Ramirez was hurt. That doesn't take away from the fact that he still started - how do you know Neifi wouldn't have started at 2B instead of Hairston if Ramirez was healthy? Exactly - you don't. Quit making unreasonable assumptions and attacking how informed I am. Just an FYI. No one does, but Neifi's starts at 3rd when Aramis is hurt. If you want to spin those starts as Dusty preferring neifi do so by all means, but this year Dusty has used Neifi just about as appropriately as one could ask for. No one's attacking anything about you - but your argument with Neifi starting 3rd doesn't apply to the 2b situation. And you're right no one knows who would start at 2b those games. I'm sure one would have been neifi and one would have jerry. regardless even if Aram was healthy and Neifi started BOTH games you would have 10-3-1 still just swapping Neifi and Jerry. That is unless Neifi can play two positions at the same time. Exactly. Better luck next time.
  3. There's no reason to believe this won't be the case. Dusty shows an obvious preference for Neifi, so it seems likely that he will start at 2B in any games Walker either doesn't play or starts at 1B. 2006 starts at 2b Player starts Walker 10 Hairston 3 Perez 1 Seems perfectly obvious to me. guess who started at third base during those games? exactly. better luck next time. I think you should do your research before commenting on "better luck next time". Neifi started against the reds because Aram hurt his butt muscle. Our only other 3rd basemen is lefty and we played two lefty's. Just an FYI.
  4. He was 6-4 with a 3.89 ERA post all star break last year. How in the world is that "really bad"? He was coming off a broken freaking elbow, and came back as good as any reasonable person could expect. That's not really bad. It's about No.3/4 starter quality. He's probably just frustrated that in addition to that, Prior had a 4.02 ERA the year before. That's cause for concern for a guy who was once one of the better pitchers in the league. Number of NL starters with an ERA below 3.89 last year: 24 That must be quite the pitching staff for it to be 3/4 starter quality. Any contending team who has a No.2 starter with an ERA around 4 has problems. First of all, using ERA as a black and white determinant is pretty crazy. FWIW, Prior's ERA all of last year was 3.67 Secondly, there are 16 teams in the NL, and Prior's marks(no pun intended) put him 19th ERA. He was 14th in WHIP, 12th in K/BB, 1st(by quite a bit) in K/9, 11th in Quality Start %, 5th in BAA, 9th in OBP against, and 12th in OPS against. If anything, he was a borderline number 1 starter last year. We're talking about the last two years. His combined numbers been far from Ace quality. It seems from your posts that you really don't want Prior here anymore and I really can't understand that sentiment. in 2003 he was amazingly good #1 starter numbers in 2004 he was shaky due to injury #3 starter numbers when pitching in 2005 he was downright cruising till he took a ball off the elbow and still ended up with #1 starter numbers He's only 25 I believe. TT proved his numbers last year - he started nibbling too much but other than that he had #1 starter numbers. Why do you want to get rid of him so badly when he's so young and could be one of the best if not THE best pitchers for years to come?
  5. If that is how things shake out then I have to ask why Hairston is even on the team. Erased for unnecessary comment.
  6. I want to compare Lee and Pujols - is there an overarching metric that would let me summarize this comparison?
  7. Why in hell is he on this roster. How is he on ANY roster? You know, Bynum has an OBP (.0 83)better than only 1 other Cub (J. Williams). All the other pitchers have OBP's above Bynum. Don't we have guys in AAA that deserve this spot more? Fontenot for one?
  8. Man I wish I drank the koolaid that you drink. It's not koolaid. I just don't think the world is about to end... I don't think the world is gonna end either.
  9. Out of the following Pitching categories: W, K, S, WHIP, ERA, and Holds I'm ranked in the top 2 in: Wins, K's, WHIP, and ERA Out of the following Hitting categories: HR, RBI, OBP, TB, SB, Runs I'm ranked in the top 3 in: Runs, HR's, RBI, SB, and TB And currently leading the League in overall points.
  10. Man I wish I drank the koolaid that you drink.
  11. 10 teams 5 starting slots I've got: Pedro Brad Penny Chris Young . . . Tomo Ohka Cory Lidle . . . Brian Bannister Sean Marshall
  12. What would be nice is if Woody comes back the first week in May and Prior comes back the third week in MAy and they stay healthy the rest of the year. I would do whatever Satan would want me to do if this would be deemed so.
  13. Honestly, I think Woody is gonna ball like he hasn't since 2003. I don't think Miller is gonna do anything worthy though.
  14. Wood - Knee/Shoulder. Check. Prior - Shoulder. Check. Pagan - Hamstring. Check. Jones - Twitchy Hamstring. Check. Ramirez - Twitchy Hamstring. Check. Mabry - Shoulder on a colision. Check. Lee - Broken Wrist in 2 spots. Check. Eyre - Knee Contusion. Check. What's next?
  15. yup. wtg hendry...you got your man What "big middle of the order type hitters" were available last offseason? And I mean available so Brian Giles doesn't count. I'm still waiting for an answer to this question.
  16. 2 of them had partially torn or frayed labrums. Exactly. They don't anymore.
  17. cubs.com Translation: "We're going to get ripped off if we try and trade for a guy 2 weeks into the season when teams know we are in a dire situation, so we'll sit tight until we know how long he's out. Exactly. Hendry's NOT a dumbass. He's not going to give up studs in the farm for this. And why are we talking about trading Prior again?
  18. Dusty was his usual idiotic self for putting Aardsma into a high pressure situation in a tie game for his first outing. Never should have happened when we had Howry, Eyre, and Williamson. It's a no win for Dusty. He's roasted if he sits the guy for an extended period or if he puts him in the fire (unless, of course, Dave does his job and gets the outs). It seemed safe to ask Aardsma to work a scoreless inning considering the way he had been pitching leading up to the appearance. You're making it appear that there are only two choices. To throw him into the fire in his second game up in a tie game, or sit him for an extended period of time and let him rust away. Now although we have no way of knowing for sure, It is a good bet that there will be a situation in the next 3 games where we are either winning by 3 or more runs or losing by several which IMO would have been a more appropriate time for his first duty, especially considering the studs we have in the Pen right now. Even if Aardsma would have gotten out of that inning, I still would have been highly critical of that move. I probably was a little harsh with my initial viewpoint because in general Dusty has done a better job (albeit in 3 weeks) of managing the pitching staff than he has in the past. That's my point exactly. Why make him wait for an appearance within the next 3 days (especially with an off day today) when you can get him into a game and keep him sharp? He was closing in AAA and pitching on a regular basis. If anything, Dusty was showing confidence in Aardsma by calling on him in the 6th. He could have called upon Novoa (who was throwing in the pen) until Williamson, Howry, or Eyre were needed later in the game. Because I don't want him blowing it like almost did yesterday.....?

  20. He is? Yes. I guess he's good but he's the 5th best out of our pen. I hope that's a reflection of our pen.
  21. He's pretty good defensively. He sucks offensively - like alot, but every once in awhile he'll provide a spark (like last night)
