I'm not saying it's the fans fault, I said screens need to be added. But I also can see why Maddon would encourage that because it's literally the only thing that fans have power over doing in the short term. There aren't any screens coming up in the next two months. Im not even saying that paying more close attention would save every fan. But it is the only thing we actually have immediate power/agency over. It almost seemed like advice based in resignation the way he said it. It def didn't have a victim-blaming feel. Obv. the screens need to be added. And I thought he was basically advising on what to do until that happens, but maybe I'm mis-remembering that quote.

What's he supposed to say? "Schwarbs shouldn't hit mansize rockets into the crowd"? People need to pay attention AND screens should be added. But until they are, the onus for not getting hurt is on us. HE can't change MLB's policy on that.

Stop this. The Cubs aren't going to lose just because they're the Cubs, just like the Cardinals don't win because they're the Cardinals. The Cubs are playing better than the teams behind them right now. And they have a huge lead. It's ok to accept that. Baseball's a volatile sport, they could go 1-5 or 0-6 this week not because they're the Cubs but rather because baseball's baseball. Not to mention going against Bumgarner, Kershaw (or do they miss him?), and Greinke. Thought we were missing Greinke, but getting Kershaw...

That's kind of like asking to explain why a good home run hitter can't steal bases. not really, or even close. Both pitching and throwing involve the same "motion". Hitting dongs and being a base stealer don't.

Can someone explain how a guy can pitch fantastic, but not be able to field his position and make ordinary throws to first?

no bearing on the run, allowed the runner to go from 1st to 3rd though. fielded it cleanly and then dropped it on in preparing to throw home.
