Is Blanco getting the start to get Barrett some rest? He had a few days off last week with the hand/finger injury. Is it possible Dusty is a bit upset with Barrett's defense yesterday? Not that it is ever spectacular, but yesterday he has some horrible throws to second trying to get runners stealing second. Or maybe Dusty believes Barrett is tired based on those throws. FWIW, Barret has started the last 4 games. This is only the second time all season that he's gone 4 straight, and he hasn't yet gone 5 straight. I wouldn't read anything into his getting the night off, at least untill and unless he gets tomorrow night off too.

Are you sure it's Hairston that Dusty hates, and not his lack of production ??

I'm probably going to reveal my math ineptitude here, but oh well... Doesn't the mean have to be .500? If each game always results in a win and a loss, and there are X number of games, then there will always be just as many wins as losses each season leaguewide. Now---in each division it's not necessarily the case of course. No. The mean is the average. The median is the middle and the mode is the number that comes up at the highest frequency. When people talk about regression toward the mean it means that the performance is likely to revert to an historical average. For example if St. Louis regress toward the mean of the last 5 years, this year they will likely win 96 games (100,105,85,97,93/5). Not so good for us Cub fans. Ouch. Let's find a string of seasons where St. Louis was terrible and call that their historical average instead! :D Here is such a string of seasons........ 1876 thru 1925 World Series team W L pct PA W L Chicago Cubs 3712 2890 0.562 5 2 3 St. Louis Cardinals 2100 2878 0.422 0 0 0

The Official I Miss Moises Alou Thread
Fred Hornkohl replied to vance_the_cubs_fan's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
I miss my ex-wife..... but my aim is improving !! -
Seconded. I'll be watching the Lakers-Suns Game 6. I'd rather watch a Devil Rays Vs. Royals game before I watch a Pro-Basketball game. I know a lot of people on this board will be watching the Bulls-Heat Game 6, as long as it's close, before the Cubs game. I'm sure they will... This Cubs isn't nearly as exciting as the Bulls are. The Bulls are young, fresh, and play hard. The Cubs are old, bad, and sometimes unfun to watch. I wouldn't argue the points with you about bad and unfun to watch.... but isn't this about the youngest CUBS team we've seen in a couple of generations ??

Based on the last 7 games, the CUBS are on a pace to draw 532 walks this year..... compared to 419 last year. Otherwise, they're scoring 2.29 runs per game while allowing 6.86. They're drving in 10.4% of the runners they get on base, and scoring 0.211 runs per baserunner; compared to 18.4% and 0.365 last year. Any way you slice it, this team is in one incredible funk. I don't know what it's gonna take to right the ship, maybe an exorcism ? Maybe, in the words of the immortal Orville Tessier, this team needs a heart transplant, eh?
