  5. What's your problem with that quote? You wouldn't consider a combined 11-2 record with an era around 1.3 to be "stupid" good? Or do you just not like the phrase? I hate the phrase. He's been a scout for over 30 years. I'm assuming he's over 50. It's bad enough when a 20 year old talks like that. What's next? Yo, that Samardzija is just phat. i heard if a person doesn't speak super white proper english he/she worships the devil, too. Proper English comes in colors? What does orange English sound like? :) Just think Irish Protestant.
  6. I flew to Virginia back in January to attend the wedding of a young couple, both of whom are VT alums. Sat next to a gentleman at the reception who is a professor there. What a shock, and what a tragedy !! I don't believe that suspending pro sports would be appropriate in this circumstance. Just my opinion. I had one disjointed thought during the day. If this is an average day in America, 109 will lose their lives on our nation's highways. My heart goes out to the victims and the families of all these tragedies, large and small.
  7. This means either one of two things will happen: 1. The Cubs offense doesn't jump all over the Padres and the Cubs lose. 2. The Cubs offense does jump all over the Padres but Marquis has a horrible performance to blow the good show by the offense and the Cubs lose. Pick your poison. I'll take what's behind door #2 please. The Cubs should win 2 out of 3 against the Padres if their offense is decent. It's only a 2 game set.
  8. Your optimism is quite unnecessary and will not be tolerated around here. It never is. [sigh]
  9. Current OBP among outfielders, total AB in parentheses: Murton: .278 (17) Soriano: .280 (47) Floyd: .300 (29) Jones: .326 (41) We all know the drawbacks of using RBIs as a meterstick. In terms of OBP, though it's close (and pathetic) among all four OF, Murton has been at the bottom of the list. He hasn't gotten anywhere near the same opportunity though. The other three have a combined OBP of .302 thru an average of 39 AB. I'll keep that in mind for when Murton reaches his 39th AB, which, at this rate, will be in the neighborhood of the first of May :x I offer this for your consideration........ Percentage of baserunners driven in 04/02 - 09/29 BDI LOB RBI% Floyd 2 16 0.111 Soriano 1 11 0.083 Murton 0 4 0.000 Jones 0 16 0.000 team 35 151 0.188 To use your own words....... it's close (and pathetic).
  10. The same way they won their first day game and their first home game this year? sorry Well.... we haven't lost a night game yet this season !!
  11. I just don't understand why anybody would jump out of a perfectly good airplane !!! Reasons: 1) I'm a control freak, and landing is the scariest part of flying. It's easier to trust myself to land safely under a parachute out in the open than to trust a stranger who has me trapped in a multi-ton chunk of metal that also happens to be full of jet fuel. 2) More legroom outside. 3) Better view. 4) The adrenaline rush and blast of cold, thin air to the face is GREAT for hangovers, so if you make it up to altitude and out the door without refunding breakfast, you're set to go! 5) There's no such thing as a perfectly good airplane. (Just don't tell the Air Force I said that - I'm up for promotion this year.) yeah..... ask yer mother about this.
