  1. Soriano will probably get 10 million this year in arbitration. I want no part of that, as he fills none of our needs. Soriano road splits 2005: .224 .265 .374 .639 Soriano raod splits 2004: .244 .291 .444 .735 Scar-ee.
  2. Two words: Dusty Baker. Why Hendry doesn't just fire him is beyond me.
  3. Jeez, If you're going to troll, at least do a decent job of it.
  4. This is getting gratuitous. An australian poster?
  5. too bad he hasn't been able to use all those awesome pitches to put up #'s better than wood. Even in 2004 and 2005 Wood's K/9 and BAA were much better than Burnett's. I think we can put a fork in this argument.
  6. I am not all that old, but Wood's 20K game in 1998 was easily the single most dominating pitching performance I have ever seen. That was a no hitter with a official scoring error.
  7. Career BAA: Wood - .214 Burnett - .230 Wood's best years blow away Burnett's best. Career K/9: Wood - 10.44 Burnett - 7.94 Burnett's career average is just that - average. In their best years, Kerry's ius better by nearly 4 K/9  I was wrong, there is no marginal about it, and Wood's stuff is clearly better.
  8. kerry wood got traded to baltimore?? Wood has better stuff than Burnett? Ha! It's Sunday night, man. Don't you have to go to work tomorrow? You shouldn't be liquored up this late. Burnett's raw stuff may be marginally better than Wood's. You seem to have the gift of hyperbole tonight. Burnett has better stuff than Wood? By what measure? Wood has far more ks/9 and a much better BAA. Wood has better stuff hands down. Other than your opinion, what basis do you have for Burnett having better stuff? Asking because I don't know, and too lazy to look for it, but what is the difference in K/BB? I think that Burnett has shown better control, but I can't say for sure. I didn't look at that since I don't consider it pertinent to the argument. Burnett does not have great control either though. Wood's career K/BB is better than Burnett's, 2.39 - 2.00
  9. kerry wood got traded to baltimore?? Wood has better stuff than Burnett? Ha! It's Sunday night, man. Don't you have to go to work tomorrow? You shouldn't be liquored up this late. Burnett's raw stuff may be marginally better than Wood's. You seem to have the gift of hyperbole tonight. No hyperbole. I never said it's way better. It is, however, clearly better. How? By what measure? And insinutaing the poster was drunk and it was humorous to suggest Wood's stuff is better seemed like hyperbole to me.

Wood has far more ks/9 and a much better BAA. Wood has better stuff hands down. Other than your opinion, what basis do you have for Burnett having better stuff? Talk to Jeff. I was just giving him something with the "may be marginally better". I have seen both pitch, and when both are locked in, I'll take Wood over Burnett.

  12. OK, that's true. Anyway, here's my thoughts: if it's like 5/$50 or even 5/$55... I'm OK with it. Furcal just got $40 million for 3 years. Is it a risk? Yeah. But it's hardly a crippling contract, and I think he's well worth the risk. I beg to differ. The Cards have a sub-100 million payroll. If Burnett pulls a Kerry Wood, it's going to put the squeeze on the team. Until he puts a few full seasons together in a row, Burnett = Wood, pure and simple.
  13. New stadium. We just made millions auctioning off things from the old park. A bunch of extra revenue just came in... In reality, I don't think this really cripples us at all. The contract is backloaded. We'll be trading Marquis... When you factor out the $5 million or so Marquis would cost us, Burnett might only be making like $4-5 million this year. Heck, even less? I really think that, provided the right guy was out there, DeWitt would give us a little extra money to play around with. Jocketty and LaRussa convinced him Burnett was that caliber player. And then, by the time the backloadedness (@_@) of the contract picks up, Edmonds will be off the books, and he'll likely be replaced by a Colby Rasmus, if all goes well. It's going to work out pretty well, I think. I seem to remember some STL media saying the Cards payroll would not increase much in the next couple years even with the new park. Either way, I'm glad it won't be the Cubs taking that huge gamble.
  14. Leo Mazzone? Not even close. Leo is amazing. No doubt. But Dunc has been pretty fantastic with pitchers that have come from other teams. Developing home grown talent has been the only real knock on him. My memory may be off, but I seem to remember as many failed pitchers as successful ones in St. Louis in recent years.
  15. Leo Mazzone? Not even close. And just how is Duncan better?
  16. Remember when InsidetheIvy, also a Scout site, broke the story we would sign Furcal And trade for Mench and Soriano. Please forgive me if I'm skeptical. I don't much care either way. Burnett is a huge gamble at the terms being tossed around, and the Cards have some offensive holes to fill and not a lot of payroll to do it with. They can have him, they really didn't need him anyway.
  17. On paper (and we all know what that means...) it gives the Cards a 1-5 that should run with any team in the NL. Carp/Burnett/Mulder/Suppan/Reyes (Marquis turns into a trade for sure if this is true.) It's all about health. Another thing I am wary of is that Burnett has always been much less effective away from Pro Player.
  18. I said it before, but I'd rather have given Furcal 13 mil per year than guarantee Burnett 50-60 million dollars.
  19. Somebody at Cards Talk said he saw Burnett at the airport today, spawning a long thread.
  20. Yes, the Cubs offered a 5th year. Apparently it wasn't the issue.
  21. What do you have against Gathright? He's fast as lightning, but has no patience and no power.
