  1. Z gets out of it. Umps bail him out with a bad call. The way they ripped us off all year, we were owed that one.
  2. Gonna be careful with Byrne here, not the worst to open up the DP option.
  3. Sounds like he's pretty much risen above it all, but yeah he shouldn't accept. I don't think he will.
  4. Or when we are losing 11-0 in the 3rd game after losing the first 2. Imagine how well Bartman would be received in Wrigley. LOL, yeah that would just be so surreal and amazing though. But in a bad, bad way.
  5. Yeah I'd invite him back to Wrigley after we go to the World Series. Although part of me thinks it would be really, really awesome if he sang the stretch and everyone gave him a good, long standing ovation. BTW that article is awesome, how did I miss that? He's a good guy, still a die hard Cub fan like any of us. Even becoming the scapegoat for an entire season can't knock the Cubs out of your blood.
  6. Now I'm becoming completely useless. I'm proud of myself, I held out until about 2:30p, got some work done. But now it's over. GO FREAKING CUBS!
  7. If the Cubs make it, I'll be content to fly up to Chicago and hang out in Wrigleyville. Just for the atmosphere. I'd never forgive myself If the Cubs finally won it all and I was over 1000 miles away. Yeah I love the Cubs but I wouldn't spend 20K on a WS ticket even if I had the money. I'll probably do what you're doing...take a couple days off work, head down to Wrigleyville and just live it up in cubdom. 20K? I could probably finish my basement off for that much, and enjoy thousands of Cub games in the new "sports room."
  8. Actually, yes. I was part of ESPN's "Five Reasons You Can't Blame Bartman" special. I hated to see this kid get tarred and feathered. Alex Gonzalez ought to send Bartman Christmas cards every year. The thing I hate about the networks is their fascination with Bartman and the goat. Yep, I guarantee you that the goat and Bartman will be mentioned within the first 2 minutes of the pregame. And every 2 minutes after that. I wouldn't be surprised if TBS had a 2 minute ticker at the bottom of their screen so that when it got to 0 they would be obligated to mention Bartman and the Goat. They'll have a banner at the bottom to relay stats and scores, and after each one a goat will run across to wipe it clean. Every commercial break a goat head and some Bartmans on sticks pop up above the score and the word "CURSE!" appears across the Cubs name on the scoreboard. Oh no, there's no limit to how far they will stoop.
  9. The thing I hate about the networks is their fascination with Bartman and the goat. That right there makes you one of my favorite sportswriters in the city. I'd give you a show if I had the power 8-)
  10. Why? They aren't that good. The Diamondbacks are worse. I want to believe that, but the records tell a different story. And I don't think anyone could argue the DBacks had it rougher in the West. I'm with goons. I think we can win the series, but it will be a fairly tough task and we need to play good Cub baseball throughout.
  11. Haha, that's great. Good times.
  12. Just remember Cubbie fans, if you're sitting in one of those seats near the field.... Do not interfere if a Cub comes over to catch a foul ball! There. Now we're set. 'Cuz you don't want to be sitting there watching the eyes of Chicago and world center in on you....."CURSE! YOU'RE THE CURSE!!" Right or wrong, it destroyed this man's life. Maybe the curse isn't real, but the possible effects of the perception certainly can be.
  13. He asked you to help him combat his pessimism - I don't think that channeling the ghost of managers past as your source of optimism is the way to do that. Have a heart and lie to the guy, or make something up. LOL. Well here's to cubbiechris' feelings, at any rate.
  14. no no no....it's the "charm of wrigley field" to sit behind a post +1 -400 (dollars). What if they made Beer $2 cheaper for those behind posts? I'm there!! Doin' the post thing @ Wrigley!
  15. They aren't sweeping this one. I think it goes to 5. This is the same DBacks team I couldn't wait to get away from earlier in the year. They went to Milwaukee and got destroyed, then they came to us and inexplicably played out of their minds. I hate this freaking team. Not only for their ridiculous bucking of reality, but also because they're like the Marlins: they have no fans, so they wait for someone else to provide the excitement then they beat you. They're baseball leeches.
  16. I think you hit on something that has long angered me about ESPN but I've never really let it coalesce in my mind. They go out and propagate this nonsense, show the Bartman video over & over, then interview a bunch of fans until they find the ones with the dumbest looks on their faces going "BARTMAN SUCKS!" Then they come on afterwards and say, "This is the Chicago fan." No. It's. Not.
  17. probably. but they're not the only seats left. Well I hope you can at least see home plate / pitchers mound. That will make it much more enjoyable. I think if I had a choice between having to croon my neck a little to see portions of the outfield, or having to deal with people walking in front of me the whole game, I would choose the former. So hopefully there won't be much of the latter for you.
  18. Just don't give the DBacks 2 feet off the outside corner and I'm good. I have no stats, but it just seems every time opposing pitchers are allowed to throw way off the plate outside for strikes, that's all they do for the whole game and we struggle. Our pitchers are good enough at the top of the order to win without having to rely on outside pitches 90% of the time. I don't think the same can be said of the DBacks, outside of Webb.
  19. The answer for me is clearly yes.
  20. We all need to take a deep breath (myself included), try to relax, and realize we really just need to take 1 of 2 here. If we do that the home field switches to the Cubs and then we can close it out @ Wrigley with the D-Backs not having Webb, or having to go to Webb on short rest.
