  1. Patriots, inevitable yes (or close). Packers though? I agree they're favorites, but NY is riding a pretty good wave of momentum right now, and unlike the Seahawks, they don't wish they were somewhere else when the weather turns bad. I'm still picking GB, but it's not a foregone conclusion.
  2. I think it very possible that we've seen the end of major moves this offseason. I don't think Hendry "must" do anything at this point. In his mind he's coming off a division winning season and he's just added a major piece this offseason. I don't see why he would necessarily be feeling a ton of pressure to make another huge move.

    The NBA thread

One can only imagine how that conversation went. The unanimous vote by the players, though, would seem to indicate Noah was pretty much out of line and everyone knew it. Like it matters anyway. This team is a trainwreck, it's hard to even watch them now. What a complete disaster.
  4. I thought about coming here and rubbing it in Vance's face. But then I realized -- as a Bear fan, I know exactly how he feels right now. Those were 2 very good playoff games today.
  5. How bout my 2 year old memory too. And a bunch of other posters here's memory. The cult of Steve Stone might be the only thing in contention with the Cult of Mark Grace when it comes to undeserved hero worship I'm not trying to offend anyone, honestly. But I don't care how many people think they remember someone saying something -- if it can't be reproduced in print or on tape or something then it's pretty hard for me, someone who didn't happen to hear it, to make a judgement about what I think the man said, including context. Therefore, I'm not going to give it the same level of creedence as I would something that's more substantiated. Call in to Stoney's segment and get him to repeat it
  6. My bad on the name, there's a mod on PSD with that name, I just got it confused. By the way, Stones exact words were "If the Dodgers are dangling Izturis for Ramirez straight up, you hold off, but if they include a prospect, it's a deal that has to be made". Then he replied that a Cedeno/Izturis infield is one that "lasts for 10 years". I remember that day vividly. That's amazing that you remember his exact words from a random day two years ago. No offense, but I doubt he said that. Just searched it real quick and found this: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=33230&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=stone+izturis I'm telling you, he even said "prospect" not "prospects". Yeah, so one unsubstantiated poster and your 2-year-old memory is beyond contestation. Not saying he never suggested a deal, but I highly doubt he was saying Izzy/ARam straight up, or even close. I posted another thread above your post with another quote fwiw. I'm telling you, he was throwing out different variations over the span of a couple days and one was Aramis for Izturis and a prospect, and then he raved about Izturis' defense and about how we would be set for forever with him and Cedeno. I think people hear what they want to hear, especially when it comes to Stone. Not that I think he would be a good GM; he wouldn't, IMO. Many other color analysts would make horrible GMs, too. I listen to Stone's spots quite a bit too on 670, and numerous times I've come here and elsewhere to find that a poster has either a) *greatly* misinterpreted what he was saying, or b) missed a key nuance in what was being discussed that totally changes the context and meaning of the discussion. Again, I'm not saying there was never any discussion around an ARam deal. Can you provide a link to an article that gives a direct quote? That's a much better source for something that someone said than 2nd-hand reporting of a verbal discussion on the radio.
  7. Well at least now I can stop hearing about how the Jags have a solid chance to win. It was disturbing. There was never a solid path to victory for the Jags, in Foxboro, against the greatest team the NFL has seen in a long time. Who is that Marcellus guy on ESPN? He was all over the place last week, "Jags have a great chance to win this game!" No, they didn't. It was starting to annoy me after awhile. They had *small* chance, not a solid chance. The kind of small chance that requires the favorite to play a terrible game to open the door for you.

  9. I wanted Kotsay for quite a few years, starting when he was with the fish. Cubs never seemed to show any interest. It looks like his numbers have really trailed off in recent years, though.
  10. WTF?!? Why the holy hell would the Jays make this deal???????? Hello? Medical reports? Might wanna have, you know, A LOOK AT THEM??
  11. It would be very difficult to fail to reproduce last year's CF numbers, methinks. Should be stronger on either side, with Sori a full year in his best defensive position and Fukudome instead of the madness that was RF last year. I'm actually starting to warm up to our outfield for the first time in years. If Pie even hits marginally it will be much, much better from what I can see.
  12. It would make sense. He probably thought they could get more if they were shopping BRob to other teams. Which means this thread is in line for a whole host of other nsbb records now. 8-) How about.. longest thread about nothing. biggest whiff by OH largest false alarm in history (not just nsbb, ALL HISTORY).
  13. I doubt that the Cubs will start DeRosa at SS. More than likely, DeRosa goes into the supersub role. He would be a huge upgrade to the bench, while Roberts would be a small upgrade at 2B, but given the rumors, it will cost us Cedeno. With the emergence of Geovany Soto, the signing of Fukudome, and the apparent determination that Pie will be the CF, Theriot at SS is the Cubs' worst position. Therefore, it's the place the Cubs should seek to upgrade, internally or externally -- whatever is possible. Now, if getting Roberts means that DeRosa plays SS (again, I doubt it), that would be good. Otherwise, let Cedeno and Theriot compete or acquire a SS. One of Greene, Peralta, Wilson, or Lopez could be available. The key here is upgrading from last season's production at SS. But have the Cubs even mentioned that they might try DeRosa @ SS? I've been wondering why I keep hearing it every once in awhile on nsbb. The Cubs had ample opportunity to try Mark out @ SS last year, yet he played 1 game at the position. The Cubs didn't exactly have a second baseman last year either to plug in if DeRosa was there for most of the year either. The Cubs do value Theriot's defense at short over DeRosa's, we know that (otherwise they would have played DeRosa at SS and Theriot at 2nd). Do they hate DeRosa's defense enough to know if they would play Theriot there even when the other one would sit on the bench? I don't think anybody knows that, and what we do know is that Lou is willing to try almost anything if the starter is struggling. Lou was willing to play Ward in RF in small ballparks because he needed more offense. If Theriot is struggling and DeRosa is just sitting there on the bench, Lou might go to him. That all falls under the cateory of "highly speculative" in terms of what would actually happen. Which means planning out any proposed trades or other moves based on a DeRosa move to SS is also highly dubious.
  14. Post of the year! On Jan 11th? You, my friend, must witness the game threads at the very least :)

  16. Asdrubal Cabrera could move to SS for the Tribe. Why though? I thought Peralta was pretty good.
  17. yeah, but you watched him "tight-rope" in the games last season right? what makes you think that is going to be any easier to watch if he takes the mound in the 1st? it will be a disaster...probably on par or worse than wade miller... just say no to dempster in any situation...lets trade him if possible Reading comprehension is a good thing. I don't see how it's not fair. He also pitched a lot of those innings as a fresh armed kid with no physical limitations. And he pitched a lot of his innings being protected in the bullpen. Ryan Dempster is what his career suggests he is, and his career numbers are a very good indicator of what you'd get if he came back to the rotation, not good. He's going to suck. That's pretty much it.
  18. I think I'm coming down with my first case of thread fatigue. I feel all.....drained...and empty inside.
  19. The average leadoff hitter had a 759 OPS last year, if that stays the average the next 8 years, Soriano has a good chance of remaining average for his position. I'm pretty sure you're joking, but in case you're not, I'd like to point out that leadoff hitter isn't a position. LF is a position. Well, then if he does fall below average for leadoff hitters, they can just move him to 7th or 8th, where he'll have a better chance of actually being well above average for his position. Problem solved. Although I'm just guessing that $19MM per will be somewhat over the average salary for a 7 or 8 hitter. Inflation will save us (hear that inflation? save us)
  20. I heard Stoney's comments too and was like....."eeeh?" He went through Roberts' stats, said they were all good, then went on to suggest if we were going to "give up the entire farm system" it should be for Bedard, not Roberts. OK, I haven't heard a trade rumor yet that involved giving up our entire farm system, or even close really.
  21. [ 2498 posts ] 100 pages. 100/2500, now there's a lot of hullabaloo about nuttin' edit: I was the one to push it to 2500! Now I feel special
  22. That scares the crap out of me. If the deal goes through we NEED to sign Hernandez and that still is not the best case senario. That's what I've been trying to say. It's frightening what the back of our rotation might become if Marshall + Gallagher are dealt and no viable replacement is signed.
  23. That was my attempt at humor. I can see that it didn't work.
