    Alright, I understand that N&G. How about if I just say that I personally would feel bad revealing such details, and then just leave it at that? I just think about family members who have to read something like that. I couldn't do it to them. That's why I'm not a journalist, and would make a horrible one if I tried. I definitely admit bias in this matter. I can't help it, when it comes to Payton. After looking around a bit, I see that Pearlman, for his part, doesn't feel it's a negative book at all.

    And now we're back to the line of thinking that makes no damn sense to me. You're trying to phrase it so it sounds like he's potentially doing something wrong...for getting money from writing a biography. It's not a slam job or an attempt to slander Payton. It's a documentation of his life and some of the things that happened in his life are "negative." The caveat of it being about a "a guy who can no longer defend himself" is clearly an effort to paint the writing and publishing of this book in a negative light and is a completely redundant and ridiculous thing to say. Again, most biographies are about dead people. Pointing out that this one is also about someone who is dead isn't a negative mark against Pearlman or the publishers, and if you think it is, well, quite frankly, you're wrong, and it's a wholly unrealistic expectation. Yes, I get that you don't want to read the book, and that's great. But stop trying to make it sound like the author did something wrong. Your line of thinking appears to be that because others do it, it's OK for Pearlman to as well. I disagree. There are levels of "wrong." I'm not saying Pearlman should be brought up on charges or anything. I am saying that I personally would never do something like this, and it definitely feels wrong/bad/not good -- whatever -- to me.

    Trying to divine all the behind the scenes activity is probably a losing battle. I'm looking forward to the resolution. It's pretty hard to figure out all the conversations, dealings, etc. If Epstein is coming to Chicago, I'd like it to be settled fairly quicky. Let's not have this thing drag on into the Christmas Holidays, please. Get it done, or axe it, please.

    really? every team does it. It's stupid when everyone does it, and i'd think the same even if the Cubs managed to ever do it again somehow. It's no different than winning the 1st/2nd round in the NHL/NBA/NFL and they manage not to pee themselves. Nay. Slaying the Yanks is always cause for celebration from where I sit.

    Well of course not. I don't think that's what is at issue here. I'll bet dollars to navy beans most of us here won't actually read the book, for various reasons. For me? I've got too many other things to do rather than pick up a book on Walter Payton at this point. It's ancient history for me -- his transgressions, I think, were largely assumed. At least from my perspective. He was a sports star. Women were available.......pain relief in the face of debiliating illness? Very available. Not terribly revealing, or startling, or really worth my time. For my part, I'm just commenting that Pearlman is netting a paycheck on the back of negative details for a guy who can no longer defend himself. That's all. Regardless of whether it is accepted practice or not in the world of biographies. I reserve the right to be critical of it. And that's all. If someone doesn't like that? Suck eggs. I'll criticize what I want. Deal with it.

    Well, as long as he isn't already engaged by another guy......legal block. And if it isn't done right, you just put a lineman on the ground and will probably get raped. So it's not 100% either. That's why teams don't just cut everyone on every play. There's some risk involved with that strategy. well, of course. i think his argument here is that the risk is justified. Debateable, but it's a worthy argument. I also think there's value to keeping a guy on his feet to (hopefully) make that secondary block if things break down.

    What show? I'm fairly certain it was Van Pelt... There's a recap of today's show posted, now I'm even more certain it was Olney, and it was on Van Pelt's show.     FWIW Olney (I believe it was him) was on the radio earlier today saying he's guessing Epstein winds up with the Cubs. FWIW -- which means, probably nothing.

    Just listened to the Simmons podcast, he said, "I think a lot of people would think it's a division game, it's going to be close, 6, but I'm going to go with 7.5." Since when is 6 points a close line? Then he listed them as a possible upset pick, which is weird considering he thought the line should be even higher. Guess it means he wants to pick them to win solidly, but they don't have "Patriots" on their jerseys so he's not totally sure.

    I remember thinking "we have the tallest group in the nfl, but they all suck" If Angelo was just unlucky, he would have managed a blind squirrel pick by now. He must have a system that legitimately succeeds in finding bad receivers.
