Seems like a pretty positive article, from our perspective. He obviously did meet with Ricketts.....it's just that Tom is in stealth mode, not even responding to requests for comment. And neither is Theo. I still think this happens. Maybe I'm wrong. We'll see.

Which means basically the details are being worked out. Not "deal done," but nobody can deny it's serious and well-involved. In other words, Theo can not now go back to Boston and claim he wasn't considering leaving.

My feeling is that the Vikings will remain a threat even though they won't make the playoffs. They'll likely find some kind of pseudo-rhythm; it won't be enough to challenge for the post season, but a few teams will be surprised when they expected to win and wind up getting beat (probably because APete goes off on them). Hopefully it isn't us who feels that pain.

I can't imagine compensation being a deciding factor. This has got to be about Theo struggling with loyalty, emotion, his home/family, etc. It's a tough decision, no doubt. We all consider Chicago to be home. Heck, if I had a job opportunity I'd move back down to Chicago so quick it would make my own head spin. But for someone who has lived and breathed Boston like that, it's got to be a little daunting. Just a few weeks ago, he was no doubt fully entrenched in trying to figure out any way possible to make the playoffs for one more run at the World Series. Now he's suddenly uprooting his entire family and life.

No Yankees to overcome. He'll win here. Plus, as I understand it, we aren't as insane as Boston fans. That's probably not true. But if it helps, heck yes! We're less bi-polar than Boston, come here.

Yep. I think the big announcement is coming tomorrow. Hopefully morning time. And I think it's going to be Epstein to the Cubs. I'm taking the Olney track -- he's been saying his feeling is that Theo is jumping ship for a few days now...

I wouldn't be too upset, in my mind this shows that Ricketts is serious about his search for a stats guy and what not. I believe that we get out of this with a good GM regardless of who it is. I'm with rocket, and I'd be willing to bet most Boston fans already would like to find someone else. Think of how you'd feel if you knew your GM didn't want to be here anymore. I'd be thinking: get lost then. Don't want you around. Uhhh. He got them 6 playoff appearances and 2 World Championships after an 86 year drought, and never dared to fall below .500 in the tougest division in baseball. I'd be thinking: thanks for the memories, Me too, being a Cubs fan. I don't think that's the same lens through which Red Sox fans view things.

Fans are fickle and Boston fans are especially fickle but if he went back to Boston and they won again, which you would think they would, they'd get over it. That said, I'm with everyone else in thinking he is a Cub. True, but that would be many months down the road before he'd be able to establish that they're winners again. Right now he's the captain of a sunk ship, in their eyes. It's not a real good situation, which is one of the reasons he's looking in the first place. You're right, of course, but getting to that point would be a long road, and it might be just as easy, if not easier, to just start over in another great sports town. Like Chicago, for instance.

Time for Lovie & Martz to have their annual "OK, your old Rams offense *still* isn't going to work, please just run good plays" meeting. Then we'll start winning again. Only problem is, this year Lovie probably needs to have a new annual meeting with Marinelli: the "your D line kind of sucks so do something about it" meeting. It's all about having the right meetings, man.

Yes, but I wonder how Theo would really get along in Boston now. It's not like a player. People need to know that the leadership is actually there because that's where he wants to be. Clearly that's not totally the case now. It's over, whether or not Theo actually leaves now. He's going to leave, so why draw it out? Come to the Cubs. We want you here. Boston really doesn't anymore. Go where you are wanted.

Well, you just posted what I thought about posting, but decided not to. :) I would think it pretty hard to go back and explain why Boston should act like nothing happened. Everyone now knows he's actively looking to leave.

Chicago is a great town in which you will fall in love with and you are rich and can fly to Boston whenever you want. I wouldn't expect Theo to simply leave Boston with no feelings about it.
