  1. Those were just examples. But the point wasn't that someone better might become available. The point is if I was the GM, I wouldn't have thought Cutler did all the things to warrant immediately signing him for 50 Mil guaranteed. So, therefore you keep the option open of moving on from him if he has another year where he doesn't warrant immediately signing him for 50 Mil guaranteed, even though the ultimate result is most likely to be him being far and away the best possible option to be the QB for the forseeable future. Like sully said, my fear is that he's always injured. Sure every QB is vulnerable and Rodgers missed more time this year, but this is twice in 3 years Cutler has missed over 5 games. If I'm giving a 100M contract at the most important position on the team, I want to be 100% sure he's going to be out there more than 75% of the time. He hasn't in the last 3 years. There's no 100% certainty of that either though. I'm not completely disagreeing with you, but I'm pretty sure there wasn't going to be a white knight coming to rescue the Bears at a low cost. Do we really know what the numbers are, or is this educated guesswork?
  2. Yeah, the only fear I have is that Jay gets injured every year. True, but I don't know how that fear goes away, regardless of who is the QB. The only way to hedge against that is to bring McCown back. THE ONLY way is to re-sign McCown? Seriously? OK, the BEST way. The easiest way. Sheesh, Mr. Correcto.
  3. The alternate plan would have been to resign McCown and draft a QB with the idea that McCown handles the Bears while the new QB gets ready. Not all that outlandish, but who in this year's draft really gets you excited at the mid-first-round level? I don't think the Bears could afford to spend picks trading up either, so.... There doesn't appear to be anything on the horizon.

  5. They sure give your money's worth on these pressers, that's for sure.
  6. I thought it was just reported that it was the plan. I've been sick for three days though so maybe I imagined it. Sounds like everyone is waiting to hear if Dallas will block it. Doesn't seem to be much doubt that Lovie would like to bring him over.
  7. Yep. They didn't want to fire him at this press conference. Put the onus on themselves and then make the change next week. Hopefully. Maybe they want to see who is eliminated this weekend too? I really thought we would get an answer today.
  8. LOL, they made the reporter ask. Then Trestman asks the reporters to not read into stuff. Come on.
  9. "Yeah I think I would have mentioned that we fired Tucker you dope." LOL, I don't think they need to ask it that directly, but knowing he's not fired, I think they can & should ask about what is going to be expected of him to improve that defense, beyond just getting guys back from injury. Right now I'm hearing that they'll get guys back healthy. That's pretty dumb -- more guys will get injured because they always do. Nobody should be satisfied with that kind of answer, if that's all it is.
  10. Big 'ol elephant in the room. Dancing around it, dance dance dance. Is there an opportunity to ask questions? I can guess what the first one will be.
  11. Apparently the driving conditions are horrible in Chicago today. Haugh may not have been the only one late. Anyway -- Emery promising the draft will be focused on defense.
  12. I'm hearing him blaming injuries. And himself.
  13. Hehe, yeah. Basically, he'll let us know all the changes when he's good n' ready, including Tucker.
  14. \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ WOOT!
  15. Press conference with Trestman and Emery is at 9:30. Should find out one way or the other about Tucker. Yes. IMO, if they don't announce his firing today, then he'll be back. I think it's safe to say that if they don't announce his firing today, they'll definitively announce that he's returning. Shouldn't be a question after this PC. True -- going to be too many questions about it.

  17. Uhhhh, Blake may not have meant it but this statement translates to "Trestman didn't get the job done with all the talent he had available to him." That entire quote rubs me the wrong way. Costanzo should be happy just to be on an NFL roster. I don't want to hear a marginal player like that talk about how Trestman's coaching style is difficult, or some people didn't buy in, or whatever. If he doesn't like it, he can find the door. And the statement you highlighted is idiotic, obviously. It tells me two things: he's stupid, and he talks too much.
  18. Thank God he didn't go to Detroit. Yep. Glad to see he got another gig.
  19. Still much better than his predecessor, IMO. If past experience is a guide Lovie won't do much with the offense, or try his hand at QB development.
  20. Not having to tear my hair out again over the OLine this offseason is going to be nice. That alone is a good reason to be thankful Jerry is history.
  21. This sucks. No more Schwartzisms to make fun of.
  22. They were exactly half a football team. And not surprisingly, ended up with a mediocre result.
  23. Agree with a lot of that summary, but since you are calling out my comment from earlier in the game thread, I'll definitely re iterate that I feel Trestman lacks polish as a head coach. He's obviously a good offensive mind overall but I find several of his in game decisions this year really cost us. Not saying he should go anywhere - not in the least. I'm definitely looking forward to more improvement from him next year.
  24. well, in fairness, what did Tucker have to lose? Well the NFC North division and get to play another game? Nope. His job was toast unless he pulled a miracle from his ass so he rolled the dice. Ironically, he'll be back next year. I cannot accept it. He must be fired.
