  1. After going 3-4 today with a run scored and a RBI, are you finally prepared to admit there isn't? :?: Whether he's in a slump or not isn't really affected by a single game. I don't think Lee looks comfortable out there -- whether it's an injury problem or an effort problem, he doesn't seem as willing to swing the bat, particularly on the outside half of the plate. Um, did you read his post or just mine? He's not saying Lee's in a slump. He's saying there's something wrong with him, i.e. something more.
  2. Cmon, bases loaded now. Hamilton coming up for the Reds.

  4. Don't know the title, but it's from the Bourne series of movies.
  5. Are you recommending we bench him? Because his K rates are right around where it usually is? Yea I'm reccomending him getting a day off because he's batting .151 in his last 40 ABs. He's down, sure. Hopefully it's just a slump and he'll come out of it.
  6. Hmmm, Reyes has been better this month. I hope we can break up his little decent streak.
  7. Gotta have it baby. Gotta have it. Gots tuh have it.
  8. For anyone who doesn't know, it's pretty much useless to watch a Brewers game from the Dew Deck without binoculars. I think that ball would have hit one of the rooftops at Wrigley, or maybe put out one of the picture windows across the street. Sorry for gushing, but that was an awesome shot. And it just ripped the hearts out of every Crew fan in the building, just awesome :D
  9. Eh, I still watch them and hope they lose :) They happen to be on HD tonight, that will draw my attention most nights. BTW one of their scrubs hit a salami, it's a ballgame again. For anyone who cares.
  10. i want to make a new sig of the overlay of miller park, with a little arrow pointing to where dunn hit that ball--vorp monkey wuz heer. Dunn is Big Country bombo. That ball was crushed like nobody's business. I think the only ball I've seen with more mustard on it off the bat was Glenallen Hill's monster shot on to the rooftop a few years back.
  11. White Sox are getting plastered too. Can this night get any better? :D
  12. Oh boy, you could hear a pin drop at Miller Park right now! Cubs in first place all alone, at least for tonight in this crazy race.
  13. Ask and ye shall receive.
  14. My God, did that ball make the Dew Deck?!? That's a long way out there!
  15. yeah damn it 8-)
  16. *whew* Cincy must want us to have heart attacks.
  17. I'll deny it. It's not like that was a pre-ordained 100 game winner. It was highly flawed, as evidenced by the continually weak offense predicated on contact and the ignorance of the value of a walk. Amazing? Please. It was set up to be pretty good. Maybe not amazing just because that's such a strong word, but he did put together exactly what we always complain about him not doing. He put a team together that was a 95 win team on paper, and even if things go wrong, they should still win the wild card. That team was great. Obviously they were not great. The problem is the team looked great on paper because the first thing people saw on paper was the names. But we were still talking about a barely above average offense with a terrible tendency to not take walks and a pitching staff that was far too relient on very young pitchers being extremely good and carrying the team with a heavy workload. It didn't work out. If you look at the post above yours, you'll see that its not just the names that looked great. Even if you say Hendry got nipped by injury in '04, you still must concede that he hired Dusty, who is the biggest starting pitcher abuser in the game. I just don't see any way around it. GM's are tagged with the whole thing, it's hard to argue around lack of wins over the course of 4 seasons, especially when you look at other clubs and they're getting it done.
  18. It makes exactly zero sense to add Monroe to the Cubs. .258 .303 .448 Those are Craig's career numbers. He's significantly *down* this year. He's just another outfielder who would be added to a team with a glut of outfielders, enough of whom are better than he is and that's before Soriano comes back. Again. Zero sense. Show me why I'm wrong.
  19. Putting Minaya on there in order to leave Schuerholz off is laughably pathetic.
  20. Interesting. Should be moved to xactions, but interesting.
  21. What do you think about Kenny Williams spending 108 million? Williams has a much better track record than Hendry, but he did not put together a good club for this year. I think White Sox fandom is pretty sour on Williams' work this year, and rightfully so. The WS win bought him a little time, but 2 non-playoff years in a row has dried up Kenny's reserve of goodwill.
  22. Hmm, I'm not so sure about that. Prince Fielder is a good player, but he's pretty out of shape for someone who is supposed to be an athlete. I think we have the right -- no, the obligation -- to make fun of him until he loses some weight. Both for his health, and our personal satisfaction. . cuz i'm sure he frequents this board and will appreciate your hard-love intervention on his obesity. at this point, he's a better hitter than anyone on the Cubs, so I don't begrudge him the extra pounds. it hasn't hurt Cabrera, Ortiz, Mo Vaughn, Cecil Fielder.... :Hoping you read my sarcasm in that post: Of course he's a better hitter than anyone one the Cubs. I'd kill for Prince on my team anyday. And for the record, Cabrera's ZR is way down due in part to his weight gain, Ortiz is a DH, and there's little doubt that Cecil, Vaughn, Tony Gwynn, and yes, Prince would be better overall players if they were actually in shape. Wait. We *want* Fielder to lose weight for his own good, presumably so he'll be a better baseball player for longer? Did Hendry pull off a trade I wasn't aware of, or something?
  23. The wins just aren't there. I don't see how any other evaluation can be made, outside of "he was unlucky." Well, get his unlucky butt out of here then. Tell me how other GMs win far more games with far less $$$ on the table? Over & over this happens in MLB. Yet Jimbo can't get it done, continually. Appreciation thread? I'll appreciate Hendry's efforts, but that's it. I realize he does try. But as for concrete results? He hasn't delivered.
  24. Lou accidentally kicked an ump and got four games. Accidental or not, it's contact with an ump. Wasn't Lou just for kicking dirt on the ump? Anyway I agree. Contact is contact, doesn't matter how slight or if it was intentional. 3 games is entirely appropriate as far as I'm concerned. froemming insisted that lou made contact OK. The league will just take the ump's word I'm sure, despite the fact that Froemming is a.......well, I won't say it. Just never liked that guy.
  25. Well good. Now we need him to get back on track. Think about it: if Z's last 2 starts would have been "typical", we'd be in first right now and the Cards would still be at arm's length. So we need El Toro now to step it up. Especially since I believe Sheets is coming back soon (thought I heard that from somewhere).
