  1. I'll be happy if Z just pitches like Z again.
  2. I said the same thing a couple days ago. The Reds don't have a chance. Hopefully by the time we get them they will have realized it. Isn't that when they are most dangerous? Yeah, I think you're right unfortunately

    It isn't.

I'm sure Bob would get a kick out of hearing he is the star of NSBB right now, heh.
  6. I always viewed Yost as a better manager than his predecessors, but I am finding it difficult to defend that position now because he is, indeed, making some truly bad decisions. Here's to hoping it continues.
  7. And there it is. My feelings regarding Jacque Jones wrapped up in a nice, neat little package. Thanks!
  8. Haha. Actually, there's precious little room around Wrigley now. Let's build a "tomb of the unknown Cubbie" and then just let everyone use their imagination.
  9. He could be right, but Mike Golic knows exactly 0 about baseball. He was saying we'll win the Central when we were hot too. Before that it was the Brewers. He just rides the current hot team and says they'll win it all. Eventually, at the end of the season, he'll be right -- and he'll ignore the 10 other predictions he made before that were all wrong.
  10. I know, I don't think I want to go through another April - June Jock Junk Streak. I'd very much like him to be traded this offseason for a hitter who can keep a more consistent level of production.
  11. Our schedule isn't that much easier. It was easier, until the Cards went over .500 -- that's because those 5 games with the Cards were supposed to be against a chump team, and now they're against one of the hottest teams in baseball. Also, we play Cincy too many times right at the end. Cincy punks us. Don't know why, but they do. Sure we have 2 days off, but that's not for awhile. I just don't see us as having that much of an advantage. We are simply going to need to get hot or we won't make the playoffs.
  12. I've heard people give us credit. The Cards are the champs and they're making a run. I hate them, but it would be incredibly bad reporting to ignore the WS Champions while they are making a credible run for the playoffs.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I bet if you asked all those Cub fans who booed what they thought of Uecker, they'd tell you they think he's a great ambassador to the sport and were doing it just to give him a little ribbing. Yeah, I don't think it's a big deal, and though I can't speak for Ueck, I seriously doubt he cared. I seem to remember him doing the "and you all root for the Cubs!" line before, too. Fans probably just assumed he would say "Brewers" and nothing else, so they booed. But who cares, it's all in fun. I'll guarantee he was pissed during the bottom of the 7th inning though. Guaran-damn-tee that one.
  14. Exactly. And I appreciate the fact that he seems to be enjoying himself. A happy worker is a more productive worker, in my experience. I also agree with Vance that we should try and deal him during the offseason and upgrade. Finally, I don't understand why some of you find it so hard to admit that he has done a very nice job since the ASB. Its like there's some sort of Anti-Jacque society out there: "The first rule of Jones Club is we never say anything about him that could be perceived as a compliment." Well, he is taking ABs away from Pie, and a lot of people wanted to see more of Pie in the 2nd half. That didn't happen, so we do have our "solution" at CF waiting for another chance. Just saying.
  15. Something like that. Good way to get back in the groove, eh?
  16. Which is exactly why he shouldn't be hitting leadoff when he returns. He should be put in the 5-hole and left there. There's absolutely no reason for him to be hitting leadoff, especially if he's not going to be stealing any bases for us down the stretch. I remember how slowly Aram "ran" in 2005 when the coaches told him to be cautious. He pretty much jogged around the bases. I don't know if Soriano will be that slow but I'm sure he will be slow. There's no way Lou will let him run at anything near full speed. I'm not sure Lou will have much of a choice in the matter. Soriano doesn't seem like a player who will take it safe for pretty long. He's going to be testing the limits of what his body can take within a few days. He might not be attempting to steal bags, but I bet he'll still be turning on the jets around the bases. He turned on the jets...right back to the dugout. At least he can't get injured, right?
  17. His approach at the plate has been much better since he started taking RHP the other way. Jones has always sucked against LHP, which is what his terrible AB was against. Lou knows that, whole world knows it. He's a known quantity in that regard so I don't consider that a reason to hate the guy. I still don't want him on my team because that's 2 years in a row he has taken forever to start producing at the plate, and this year was worse than last.
  18. RBIs and Runs Scored will likely finish off what would be expected, though. Seems to me OPS is an important stat because it so strongly implies better RBI + Run production from a hitter. If the OPS is there, but it isn't necessarily translating, then I would have to say it's still an off year.
  19. Well....if going with JJ was a gamble by Lou, then it has so far paid off. I remember at the time none of the options seemed real good though. Honestly, I would still rather find a CF who doesn't take until August to get going, but I'll also take every last drop of juice from JJ right now.
  20. i like people who have no faith in their team. 1 run will NOT win this game. sound familiar? yeah well 98 years of losing makes faith a difficult proposition. i don't think anyone questioned that 1 run wouldn't win the game.
  21. the cardinals will finish 5+ games out. I hope so, but I can't believe it until I see it. Interestingly enough, the Cards' surge just made our strength of schedule look much tougher than it originally did.
  22. nothing definite but more than likely We better make him throw pitches. He can't be able to last long, and the Crew's BP has been incredibly shaky.
  23. YEAH BABY!!! *dances a jig** W00t W00t!!
  24. Glad Jenkins is up with no runners on. That makes me happy.
