  1. is it?? do tell for those of us w/o TV.... He just struck Ryan Howard out with a curve that went from Howard's shoulders to his ankles. Nasty. :)
  2. I'd be scared of trading for him unless the Phillies decide they want to cut more payroll. I like him a great deal, but I bet his trading value is higher than his actual value-if he was a free agent though, I'd get him very quickly. Isn't he due a new contract in the next couple years? He'll want crazy money, I'm sure.
  3. I'm telling you, Neifi's gonna save them. Just watch. :) I hope Neifi pulls his famous, bottom of the ninth, two out ,and two on Bunt... 8) He does that for dramatic effect. Afterwards when he saves them, it looks so much better.

  5. Gotta be for Neifi. He's gonna save them.
  6. Man, no activity tonight. Thought there'd be more people on tonight celebrating Neifi being gone some more.
  7. Do you know Hendry never pursued Abreu? In the offseason, all I heard was if the Phillies traded him, it would likely take Prior, Pie, and possibly more. At the deadline, Abreu said that to waive his no trade clause, a team would have to pick up his huge option (though as someone else said he waived that stipulation because he wanted to go to the Yanks). Neither option is very appealing to me for a guy that has shown signs that he may be getting worse. I love Abreu and think he would be great, I also don't strongly support Hendry in many of his moves, but to assume that he never pursued Abreu is incorrect to the best of my knowledge.
  8. I wouldn't want him. This is a career year that likely won't be repeated. His three year splits are .272 BA, .335 OBP, .430 SLG vs lefties. Plus, he's 31 years old, meaning he's not likely to get any better at all. Also, not directed toward you, I don't understand wanting Gary Matthews Jr. either. His career numbers, .260 BA .334 OBP .416 SLG, are not that impressive and would be a lateral move to a downgrade from Pierre (though granted with less cost). And again, he's 31 meaning he's not getting any better unless he's a real late bloomer. Cameron would be ok despite the low OBP, he's had multiple .800+OPS years. Of course he's 33, so what could we expect from him?
  9. 26, I think. You are correct sir............he turned 26 in April Yes! Do I get a prize? :)
  10. O'Malley in the 8th, Howry in the 9th. That's my bet.
  11. Wonder if he's earned himself another start? 6 BB's and only 2 K's, the guy is playing with fire out there. It's partly making pitches when you need them, partly an exhausted opposing lineup, and partly luck. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets another start out of this, but it would not be at all out-of-line to have this be a one time shot. I wasn't so much saying he should start again, but in a wasted season he might build a little trade value if he can put together another good start or two. I wouldn't be bothered sending him down again though, I don't really think he's anything too special.
  12. What do you mean? I'm sure Scott Eyre has been involved in many double switches this year, not just this one :D yea!! and its not like the guy he was replacing had great speed either!!! I don't know, Wuertz looks kind of athletic, he might be able to run a little. true, but he replaced Aardsma  Ok, that's it. I've been up and working far too long and I am now going to bed. Maybe after some rest tomorrow I'll be able to talk some sense. Or maybe not, who knows. :?

  14. I'm not sure what he did at UW-Madison but I haven't seen any consistent oddities in any of his lineups. It's the poster that was at UW-Madison, not Yost. Gosh, that's terrible. When I read the post, I took it to mean that he was attending UW-Madison at the same time that Yost was coaching there. Didn't think I had ever heard of him coaching there. :)
  15. Ugh..I really had completely forgotten that Bynum was ever on this team. He's not signed for after this year, is he? Bynum is under Cubs control for the foreseeable future because he's a rookie. Wow, how did that not get out? Dang, I guess I was wrong. That's depressing.
  16. Ugh..I really had completely forgotten that Bynum was ever on this team. He's not signed for after this year, is he? Off the top of my head, I don't think so. Too tired to look it up but I think he's signed through this year only. At least that's what I'm hoping.
  17. After Green's comments earlier today, I wonder what kind of reception he'll give Leinart? Probably a nice, warm spot on the bench for the first few games. I wouldn't be surprised if Leinart sits out long enough to learn the offense, etc. which could carry well into the regular season.
  18. I'm not sure what he did at UW-Madison but I haven't seen any consistent oddities in any of his lineups. Personally, I would take him or most any of the Braves coaching staff to manage the Cubs. They've proven they have a strategy that wins consistently and I feel that Bobby Cox is one of the best, if not the best, manager in the game and anyone working under him is likely to hold similar, if not the same, successful philosophies that Cox and the Braves hold.
  19. I do..I would be shocked if he came out in the 9th. I would hope that would be too much even for Dusty to do. Maybe that's my natural optimism though.
  20. Nevin and Neifi having nice days today. Too bad they don't do it more often. 8)
  21. Paging Marty McFly and Dr. Brown. :D Hit the Quantum Leap music! Also, as well as the Braves have been doing, I'm convinced that Ned Yost is only a hair better than Dust-for-brains. His lineups, pitcher handling, and calling of the game (hit & runs, SBs, etc) leave much to be desired. However, he should get kudos for hiring Mike Maddux as his pitching coach. I don't quite understand what you don't like about Yost's lineups. Here's an average one for instance. Brady Clark- .280 BA, .374 OBP, .348 SLG Jeff Cirillo- .323 BA, .379 OBP, .418 SLG Prince Fielder- .282 BA, .350 OBP, .502 SLG Gabe Gross- .271 BA, .374 OBP, .488 SLG (He's also hit leadoff some) Bill Hall- .273 BA, .333 OBP, .566 SLG Tony Graffanino- .317 BA, .352 OBP, .413 SLG (He's hit in the 2 spot some) Corey Hart- .270 BA, .333 OBP, .338 SLG (Plus he's a youngster starting over a struggling vet, Geoff Jenkins) Mike Rivera- .304 BA, .333 OBP, .500 SLG Kevin Mench, .295 BA .335 OBP .452 SLG, has hit fifth some and David Bell, .272 BA .337 OBP .390 SLG, has hit seventh some. Not much to dislike that I can tell from that lineup. There are some issues but it's mostly not having the correct personnel (why is David Bell on the team for instance) but that's the GM's fault, not Yost's. actually that's not typical at all considering that Gross and Clark have been platooned in center and are rarely in the linup at the same time, and that Clark is listed as leadoff, where he has been less than half the time when he should be there every single game he starts. more often he is put in the 8 hole where his great obp is wasted. much like Dusty, he doesn't stick with any consistent lineup and puts guys in inexplicable places in the lineup. From Friday, June 23 (random date, it's just where I got tired of looking at lineups, if you want I'll go further back but I was seeing a trend) until his injury Rickie Weeks, .279 BA .363 OBP .404 SLG, started every game in the leadoff spot but two, those were leadoff by Gabe Gross. After Weeks' injury, Gabe Gross started two games at leadoff and Tony Gwynn Jr. (odd) started one. After the Carlos Lee trade, Brady Clark has started every game in the leadoff spot with either Cirillo or Graffanino batting second. The number two hitter for 16 times was Jeff Cirillo, .379 OBP. Corey Koskie, .343 OBP, started twice, Bill Hall, .333 OBP, started 8 times and Chris Barnwell, a rookie, started twice. I'll admit that Cirillo should never have left the two spot, unless for Clark, but it's hard to argue that Clark would have made that big a difference over Weeks in the leadoff spot. Fielder, Lee, and Jenkins made up the middle of the order almost every game before the Lee trade and since then it's been Fielder, Hall, and Mench/Gross. You can make somewhat of an argument that his lineups aren't exactly the same every time but there's not a huge difference in many of them. To say his lineups are similar in any way to Dusty's or inexplicable, though, is very confusing.

  23. Atlanta Braves.com The way I see it is Fredi has been in the Braves organization, that's good enough for me. With Ned Yost as a perfect example, most anyone from that organization understands exactly what it takes to win on a consistent basis and have learned from one of the best, Bobby Cox. I would love to see Fredi Gonzalez become the next manager of the Cubs.
