If you have DirecTV, the Extra Innings channels are 734-741. Just flip over to them and you should be fine. 732 and 733 also have special features - showing multiple games at the same time, etc. Ok thnks for some reason I was thinking this had to do with watchin the games on the comp. Nope, it's all on the television. :)

Great play by Rickie Weeks on a Helton grounder ends the inning. Helton smoked it up the middle but Weeks grabbed and threw him out easily.

His overall numbers haven't been very good this year. The only reason I brought up the idea is because he's been very good against lefties. I doubt the Yanks would sign him to be their first base answer. The big problem is who you would drop to get there. One of the catchers will go down when Dempster comes back (probably Hill). Out of the Cubs bench right now-Bowen is the backup catcher, Izturis is the only backup SS, Pagan is the only backup CF, Fontenot is hitting too well to be dropped, and Ward has been too good and cannot be dropped either. There simply isn't space for Franco or practically anybody unless they can play catcher, SS, or CF. Yeah, that's a distinct problem. The only way around that would be if they found Franco valuable enough to carry only 11 pitchers. Not likely, but thought I'd bring it up anyway.

When another team is willing to take them. Trades have to go both ways and apparently there is some interest - which rules out cutting them. I'd prefer Griffey Jr or Dunn. The Cubs have been highly rumored to be a likely destination for Junior. See my and others' earlier posts - it sounds as if Hill or Bowen will be traded or cut and Dempster's coming back. I do too and hopefully we'll get a better bat in either center or right to amend that. Hendry is looking hard. I disagree that there are "a lot" of questions. SS, CF and C are all issues but if we can fill one or two with a good bat - or just improve elsewhere - we should be fine.

Not necessarily on the three catchers. As was mentioned earlier, it sounds like Dempster is going to be ready tomorrow or so, thus forcing the release or trade of either Bowen or Hill. Thus, Pie going down and two catchers.

I was still watching in July but it was painful. Very painful. I quit watching in Mid-may last year. It made for a boring, but much less painful, summer. No matter how bad the Cubs are, I couldn't go that long without some type of sport to watch. The pain of boredom would be far worse than even the deep, grinding pain of Cub suckage. I know. I watched almost every game last year, even as I cursed everything about them and was ashamed to admit I was a fan in public. I feel thats the mark of a true fan, but maybe thats just me being too attached to them I either highly respect or question the sanity of any fan who follows the Cubs closely. It's far too difficult a task for bandwagoners.

I dont know how I made it. But, I did. I just couldnt stomach last years team. I watched on occasion, but it was maybe one or two games every two weeks. Maybe that's why I'm so addicted to this years team...im still in withdrawal from not having a team last year. We're all starved for a good team my friend. Cub fans will always be extra addicted to a good team - we don't have many of them.

Could Bowen be heading somewhere? I doubt anybody would trade for Hill, but Bowen could be packaged with somebody - maybe one of the three teams interested in Izzy like Bowen too? the cubs have always confused me, but this year they seem to have stepped their game up. Yeah, they're keeping us on our toes right now. Doesn't really bother me if they can keep us winning though. :)

Four maybe? Isn't Blanco due back very soon? Last I heard there was still some doubt whether Blanco would be back at all. Optimistically, I've heard they're hoping he can be back sooner than later, though.

Nah, not stupid, just sounding a little desperate!! :lol: With DLee hitting weak grounders, any kind of right handed power to go w/ Sori & ARam would be welcomed... I'm actually envisioning him as 99% of the time as a bench player, subbing in occassionally for DLee. He might be of great use to us during Lee's 5 game suspension if we're facing a few lefties during that time.

.250/.368/.438/.806 against lefties. I'd like to be interested in him purely as a bat off the bench against lefties, but I'm not sure it makes sense. Somebody tell me if I'm being stupid for being interested.

Yeah, Soto isn't anything special. But you are talking about a legit opportunity to see an increase of 300+ OPS points out of a position, from the ~400 OPS provide by Hill and Bowen to possibly a 700 from Soto. Any such move is going to draw attention. Hey, I'm here, too. Just wish we had more to pontificate about, like why aren't we hearing more about the 3 teams interested in Izturis? Levine mentioned that the Blue Jays and Orioles were having 'aggressive' discussions regarding Izturis. So, while it's not quite "pursuing," at least it's hopeful. haha...id like to see a platoon of Royce Clayton and Cesar Izturis in Toronto That'd be quite a combo. Dusty may even say it's the veteran presence needed to save them. Nah, only Neifi saves teams. Only Neifi.

He's never hit for power. But I wouldn't say he's never been good. He's always had a decent amount of patience and hit for an acceptable AVG/OBP combo, for a catcher. He's just never hit for power. But catchers routinely take a little while to develop and power is always the last thing to come. His numbers last year in AAA, .272 .353 .386 would be more than welcome on the 2007 Cubs. Yeah, not good was probably the wrong terminology - he's a career .262 .344 .371 715 hitter though, nothing too special. Those numbers would definitely be an upgrade over what Bowen and Hill have given us so far but I wouldn't expect those numbers this year - unless he truly has turned a corner. I like the call-up, don't get me wrong. Bowen and Hill simply aren't getting the job done and I think Bowen projects better as a Blanco-esque backup than a starter. I'm just tempering my excitement over Soto a little, hoping this year isn't a fluke.

you are low-balling the kid then eh? i expect above .260 easily BP's predicted line (prior to this season's big AAA year): .235/.307/.336 I'm definitely hoping the huge numbers in AAA this year are a harbinger of future fortunes for Soto, but the fact that he's never been good with the bat before still has me worried. He's still an improvement over what we've had - I just wonder how much of one. first of all...his name is soto is four the magic number? theriot fontenot soto cedeno O boy!
