  1. Where did Hermida come from? And who is better ... Hermida or Bradley? Hermida can actually play for us and not just sit on the DL . . . so Hermida. Teach me about Hermida, I feel like I'm missing something. He had a great year in 07, his first full year, but was pretty awful last year. His slugging and OBP took a big hit. Was there a reason for that, or are we just hoping to buy low and hope he returns to form? he's only 25 he's had major league success he's getting out of dolphins stadium he has awesome minor league numbers i think he's a great buy-low option Ok, I wasn't sure if he had gotten hurt or something. I wouldn't mind him over the likes of Teahen and DeJesus, but I still think I'd rather have Bradley. Of course if Hendry's plan is to get Peavy, get Hermida, and then go hard after Furcal, I'd be all over that. I'm the one who suggested Furcal, not any of the sources. It was just a suggestion. With the money for losing Marquis and DeRosa basically making Peavy's contract a wash, and getting a cheap RF like Hermida (Cedeno's money would make that a wash), maybe there is room to add Furcal. If the money's there, though, it makes sense since Hendry's had a crush on Furcal for years.

I don't think Hermida is a buy low candidate. I bet you the asking price is very high for him especially now that they moved some other pieces. The White Sox got Carlos Quentin from the DBacks for a minor league first baseman. Teams lose faith in young players quite often.

Yeah, my disdain for Bradley aside, Peavy, Hermida, Furcal trio is better than a Peavy, Bradley duo in my opinion. Especially since it frees up Theriot to platoon with Fontenot at 2B.
  4. If it's tied in somehow with Peavy (which the rumor seems to sort of imply) then I'd think Giles. There aren't many others on your list who excite me, though (maybe Hawpe).

Was there a reason for that, or are we just hoping to buy low and hope he returns to form? He's very young, first and foremost, and his numbers should improve leaving the vast Florida stadium for Wrigley, GABP, Juice Box, etc. I believe he plays at least decent defense (huge improvement over any of the other options) and he'd be much cheaper than anybody else (even considering talent given up to get him). There was a past thread with a better breakdown of his chances to rebound, giving me a lot of hope that he could.
  6. Marshall? Or is that too much? Maybe Pie and Atkins? I want Hermida badly if our best options are Bradley and Ibanez. Maybe Cedeno. The Marlins are trying to move Uggla. Does Maybin project as a CF or a corner? I think a CF, but I'm no authority on him. And I'd love a Pie and Cedeno for Hermida deal.

  8. Peavy, Hermida and Furcal would be enough of an offseason to make up for the Wood/Gregg debacle in my book.

  10. Great hire for Auburn, if indeed true. I feel bad for Mike Leach if this is true. He badly wants back into the SEC and twice this offseason he's been a top candidate for top SEC jobs (UT and Aub). The man's only never had a losing season at Texas Tech, you'd think that'd get him a better job.
  11. Get Bradley signed! Please! How's his character been? I'm not the biggest believer in clubhouse chemistry, but that guy is a stark raving nutcase. I hope he doesn't lose his cool, because I fear for anyone around him at that time. He's still a hot-head. But apparantly last year he became a better teammate and a clubhouse leader and was a mentor to Hamilton. I'm sure that would change if he went to a winning ball club. The Pads were winning when he threw a temper tantrum over a questionable call and shredded his hamstring (I think) and was out for the season as they were pursuing the wild card. It's not the reason I don't like him, but he's been a hot head on winners in the past.
  12. The idea is to not get swept in the postseason. The more good talent you add, the more likely it is to win - though that's certainly not the only factor. I'm mostly tongue-in-cheek on the "too much" thing, but the odds of any individual player being the difference in a five-game playoff series is almost nil. I know, I wasn't 100% serious in my response. I figure our farm system is crap enough already, might as well go all out now.
  13. Hopefully the contract is on the very low end of that $7-10 mil range. I'll be okay with, but fearful of, anything on the upper end.

  15. :rotfl: It's 5 months to April Fool's day, come on. I love that ESPN contributed to writing that, too.
  16. cue redflash to tell us that alabama didn't really want him anyway I'm a little curious to see what he says. Gordon was a pretty good bet to go to Bama until Kiffin got the job here. Then Kiffin made a strong push for Gordon and, apparently, Lane showing up at Gordon's state championship game (where his team knocked off Maryville, who had won 74 straight games) made a big impact in his choice.
  17. Don't know if this is the right thread, but there's not really another one, so here goes: Defensive back Eric Gordon - probably the second best recruit in the state of Tennessee - chose Tennessee over Alabama. This was a great, great job by Kiffin to pull him in.
  18. marquis has negative value and i wouldn't classify derosa as a "very good" player. not unless he duplicates his 2008...which won't happen all things considered, dero in 2008 was fantastic, in 2007 and 2006 he was merely very good...350 wOBA at second base and paying about $1M per win over replacement, thats freakin great i don't think an .800 ops guy can ever be considered "very good" unless he's a gold glove shortstop or catcher and/or steals bases like jacoby ellsbury Would you consider Dustin Pedroia to be "very good"? Because his OPS was .869 last year. DeRosa's was .857. Obviously, Pedroia's much more valuable, but DeRosa was very good for a second baseman last year.
  19. One of many things I keep planning on getting. Does it cost a monthly fee, or can I just buy it and hook it up? If you get a DVR through your cable/satellite providor there is a monthly fee, but it is well worth it. I'm pretty much lost without it now. Well, crap. I hate monthly fees. I think you can also buy it for one price. I know we did with our Dish DVR. We are getting a HDDVR now and that costs about 10 bucks a month. If I get one, it'll have to be without monthly fees.

  21. I'm not computer savvy enough to know what that is, much less how to use it.

  23. I hate that I work both of those days because I'd love to sit around and watch games. Work actually prohibits me from watching many of the games I want to. It sucks.
  24. I don't have any extended family, so I'm usually at home throughout the bowls. Thus, I sit around at home (or at a buddy's house) and watch lots of college football. They're usually interesting matchups you don't get to see too often - which is a bonus.
