  1. The bad part is that there isn't much in the way of top QBs uncommitted right now. Devlin picked a horrible time to decide to transfer as most all of the good QBs are mostly locked up. If JoPa wants one in this class, he'll likely have to steal one away from another team. which he may be able to do, since they won't be buried in the depth chart for 2 years anymore Don't know if I agree with this, the top two QBs left on PSU's board are Newsome and Boyd, and both are uncommitted (although they lead the country in previous commitments...). Not saying we land either of them, but you'd have to assume one is a possibility. I work in the PSU A.D. and I have some contacts who are convinced that Newsome will announce for PSU at the Army game because he's already told staff as much. TFWIW. I don't know about Newsome, but Tajh Boyd only wants to play in a pro-style offense. What Jay Paterno did this year may scare Boyd away.
  2. I think it was posted before, but I don't remember when or where. It's great stuff though.
  3. I'd think defensive players of the year would be a good place to start: ACC - Mark Herzlich, LB BC - 105 tackles, 11 TFL, 3 sacks, 6 INT for 121 yds B12 - Brian Orakpo, DE Texas - 40 tackles, 18 TFL, 10.5 sacks, 0 INT SEC - Eric Berry, S Tennessee - 72 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 3 sacks, 7 INT for 265 yds BE - Scott McKillop, LB Pitt - 126 tackles, 16.5 TFL, 4 sacks, 1 INT for 18 yds P10 - Rey Maualuga, LB USC - 73 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 2 INT for 48 yds B10 - James Laurinaitis, LB Ohio St - 121 tackles, 5.5 TFL, 4 sacks, 2 INT for 0 yds Obviously not all of them would be invited. If any were to go this year, I'd probably be in favor of one or two of Berry, Herzlich and McKillop. None should win it this year, though. I wish defensive players and offensive linemen would get more consideration for the award. As do I. They're not in as glamorous a spot as the offensive players, though. Scott McKillop winning the Heisman won't draw near the ratings and chatter that Tim Tebow or Sam Bradford winning the Heisman will.
  4. Like Raisin said, I don't understand why they didn't at least invite Harrell or Crabtree.

  6. If Bradford does bolt (and Stafford as well), it'll be interesting to see who the Lions take. I have to think Detroit (even being Detroit) will have to take a QB. If Bradford and Stafford are both available, it'd be interesting to see their choice.

Matt Barkley (top QB prospect in this class) is heading to USC despite there being three former five star recruits in front of him.
  8. Let me preface what I'm about to write by saying that Vandy doesn't count in these discussions...they are the odd man out in the SEC as everyone already knows. Anyways, it's a combination of several things make Miss St the least desirable SEC job; average facilities, least wealthy and smallest fanbase, no history, and easily the worst city in the SEC. I can see that. I just don't think it's an unfixable program.
  9. That's not so bad if you're in C-USA and you're just trying to win that conference. If UCF was in the, say... the Big East, it might be. But they aren't. So I don't think it's too bad. hes in a position where he doesnt need a stepping stone head coaching gig. he's more liked than muschamp as future HQs go and a LOT more than venables It's a bit odd he hasn't gotten a major program to offer him the job yet. Any idea why not? And if he has, but didn't take it, then maybe he sees something in UCF that he can make work. the color of his skin, unfortunately. And if he can't get a major conference gig because of his skin color, then why should he hold out for one as you inferred he should? EDIT: I'm not doubting your assertion that his skin color is a factor (and even a major factor, or the only factor), I'm just wondering about your conclusions that he should have held out for a job that probably won't be coming.
  10. Oh, ok. I was trying to figure out why you randomly threw him out there.

  12. . . . is a terrific head coach. Your turn.
  13. I think UCF's stadium isn't more than 5 years old. That could be a good stepping stone for a career if the rest of the facilities are nice. That conference isn't too tough, either. I think you gotta be crazy to take the Miss. State job, though. I've heard the facilities at Miss State are horrible - otherwise I don't think it's that much worse than any other mid-level SEC program. It's more about who you're up against week in and week out. Miles, Nutt, Saban, Meyer, Petrino, Spurrier, etc. That and I've heard it's tough to recruit there. It's a tough job, I just don't see how it's significantly tougher than Vandy, UK, Ole Miss, South Carolina, etc. - other than that the facilities apparently suck.
  14. Isn't that the case for most mid-level schools, though? Obviously it's a tough job, but I don't see how it's tougher than winning at most other schools of its stature. Not committing to the coach is a definite problem. If Mullen wants to stick there, he better win quick.

  16. UCF was in the Conference USA title game...last year. In fairness to Meph, they pretty much rode Kevin Smith to that game. The rest of the team was decent, though, and I don't think they're beyond repair.
  17. c'mon it's a big recession. we cant be spending money on guys who are there just so espn cant run another segment on tebow. imagine the awesomeness now. before it was one segment per player for an hour. now it will have to be MORE TEBOW! Good point. I'm definitely not watching now.

  19. They should award it to him to make up for last year. Give one to Peyton while you're at it, too. :D
  20. Don't know if I should be embarrassed for not knowing who the hell Donald is? Heard of Carrasco, though. For some reason, I saw Carrasco and immediately thought Hector Carrasco. I then wondered why BBB thought it'd be a great trade . . .
  21. I hate giving up DeRo too, but he's 34 and almost certainly won't be back after this coming season (his contract is up and he'll likely regress). So, is it worth one less year of Mark DeRosa to obtain five years of Jake Peavy? I hate trading DeRosa, but the answer is yes.
  22. Problem is, Bradley can't play the outfield without getting hurt. It's been a long time since he's played 100 games in the field.
  23. Where did Hermida come from? And who is better ... Hermida or Bradley? Hermida can actually play for us and not just sit on the DL . . . so Hermida. Teach me about Hermida, I feel like I'm missing something. He had a great year in 07, his first full year, but was pretty awful last year. His slugging and OBP took a big hit. Was there a reason for that, or are we just hoping to buy low and hope he returns to form? he's only 25 he's had major league success he's getting out of dolphins stadium he has awesome minor league numbers i think he's a great buy-low option If we as fans know all these things I'm sure Florida and other GMs know this too. I don't think Hermida is a buy low candidate. I bet you the asking price is very high for him especially now that they moved some other pieces. The White Sox got Carlos Quentin from the DBacks for a minor league first baseman. Teams lose faith in young players quite often. Hermida won't come cheap. If he did he already would have been traded. I'm not saying cheap, but Pie and Marshall should get it done for him - that's not a cheap offer. Atkins or Cedeno might be enough in place of Marshall, as well. I think Pie and Marshall for Hermida would be a good deal for both sides. Yep, though if BBB's speculation is right, Pie and Cedeno for Hermida would be even better.

The Marlins have said (since before we traded for Gregg) that Hermida is available, but he wouldn't come cheap. Pie and someone else wouldn't be a cheap package, IMO. The Marlins could put Pie in CF, Maybin in one of the corners and Cedeno can play SS if Ramirez gets moved to 3b. Yeah, I didn't mean to imply that he'd come cheap, just that he likely wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. Pie and Marshall/Atkins/Cedeno isn't cheap at all.
