  1. Yeah, that one just made the quote wall in the computer room. Good work, well thought out. Sure there will be arguments, but that summarily ties up the facts.
  2. No, we gave them a 7-spot on Carlos today instead. Figured that was the appropriate way to celebrate h-e-double-hockey-sticks freezing over.
  3. I'm not trying to find fault in the fact that Z is still there. Or really that Marshall is either. Just trying to say that the team is going younger and showing patience with some, but not others. I'm not saying that Williams shouldn't be in AAA. Just saying that if he isn't starting up here, he should be there, and starting. I don't like the in-and-out of the rotation thing that the Cubs have done with some young pitchers. I don't know if that treatment is what killed Cruz and his mental toughness, or it was Cruz himself. But with Williams, and our likely need of him next year, I don't want him to potentially be damaged from that treatment. His performance tells me he'll never be a #1 or 2, but he could be a serviceable 4/5 and still could be valuable if we use him in the way that best utilizes (and showcases) his talent. I'd say the same about Marshall/Guz/etc as well. If they're here, and not in the role we will want them at AAA/AA starting. They're most valuable as SP, and it could be detrimental to them and/or their trade value to be used any other way.
  4. Since the front office made it clear that they were going to stick with Murton and Cedeno, and to this date, they're performing, I'm ecstatic. I'm frustrated that the way they had to ensure that Dusty would use them as they management desired, was to have no viable long-term backup plan should either fail. Not that there was a lot out there on the market that would have been better. It's just very hypocritical of them, in my opinion to have done that with those 2, but to have yo-yo'd Jerome Williams around so much over the last 2 years. Yes, I realize that this year his starting performance(s) have been bad. But Z, Marshall, and Rusch have all had bad performances and aside from Rusch, we accept the other 2 being in the SR. Hopefully Williams can go down to AAA, re-find it there, and come back be the pitcher he's capable of. I have this feeling we'll need him again, and soon.
  5. Just you wait, my youth movement strategy (Bay, Wright, Cantu, Gomes) will pay off. no, no....when Fielder, Beltre and Helton all break the record for most HR in a month in July, then who will be laughing? Me when, after Bonds passes a "random" drug test, goes back on the juice and hits a mammoth 640-ft blast, causing Alou to put Pedro Feliz in front of him, for the remainder of the season.
  6. I would have to say it's: Augie Ojeda to Cubs for Richard Negrette (BAL) 1999 just bad for the Cubs. At least BAL got some minor league roster filler. Someone actually had the audacity to promote Ojeda to a 40man roster. Just so the manager had a coffee boy.
  7. I've said the same thing about Tex. Then complained about Alou batting anybody BUT Feliz in front of Bonds.....

While I'd stick with Smoltz, Hudson, and Santana in my rotation, I don't have patience with Rusch because his upside is so much more limited than theirs. He shouldn't be there, but right now, aside from unknowns, he *is* iall that's available thanks to injuries. Come back soon, at 110%, Wood, Prior, and Miller. Please. My eyes and stomach beg you. That first line.... well that's Koronka's first game in TX. That's not much better than Rusch. To quote an old saying that goes well with Koronka's game; "even a blind squirrel gets a nut sometimes."
  9. Marco, If you need a webhost other than a rapidshare, I can host for you. Can create you the sub accounts, etc, so you can upload directly.
  10. Not that it makes much difference, but by my calcs, I have 14 instead of 13. But, I'm no math major.

  13. I'm going to have to bow out. My wife seems to have contracted some severe heart problems. And in lieu of spending time on fantasy sports, we'll be in the ER, and who knows what from there. So now it should stand at 12.
  14. I love this. This is the crux of the stats vs. convential wisdom arguement. CW: Hey you showed me some data that proves your point but I don't like it. So it proves nothing. ST: But the numbers don't lie. CW: So what? I don't like them so you can stop using them. I'll keep my uninformed opinion thank you. And that would be why many "conventional wisdom" supporters get so turned off by many "stats" supporters. No stats does NOT equal uninformed. In my opinion there is a balance to be reached between the 2. But successful scouting and player development has been done in the past (maybe not by the Cubs) based on each, and based on both. There is no magic formula for either.

  16. Overall, I wouldn't rate it that bad in a 16 team league... that being said, I'd try to find any catcher you can. **Edited** don't want to give away too much strategy. Honestly, based on solely a very limited opinion and short glance. I'd say as is, this team would probably finish middle of the pack (7-10th). Offensively, you should do ok. Pitching wise, I honestly can't see this team winning head-to-head or really rotisserie matchups. But I could be wrong. Have been before.
  17. Joined, and if the draft changes, I'd love it.... otherwise I'll setup my rankings this Friday/Saturday. OBX Bikiniwatchers... until my team develops some style...
  18. Is that because they had to have a leg amputated to give the rest of the AL East a chance?
  19. 1.) DFA Jose Macias on the first day possible 2.) Inform Neifi Perez we would no longer be in need of his services 3.) Pick up Todd Walker's extension 4.) Sign Eyre and Rusch to 2yr deals. 5.) Offer Weaver (1yr 9mil) and Washburn (1yr 7mil) contracts. 5a.) Should both have signed, traded Williams, Mitre, Nolasco, Pinto and Sing to the Devil Rays for Crawford and Lugo. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Should both not have signed: 6.) Resign Nomar to a 1yr contract with 2.5mil guaranteed, up to 3 mil more in incentives based on PAs and games played, and a mutual option in 2007, or 75k buyout. 7.) Trade Mitre, Nolasco, and Pinto to Phillies for Michaels 8.) 3 Way deal with The nationals who had acquired Soriano, Cubs get Roberts and Markakis, Orioles get Soriano, Patterson, and Sing, nationals get Dopirak, Hill, Brownlie, and 1-2 Pitchers from Balt. 9.) Trade Walker to Boston for minor league P. 10.) Sign P. Wilson to a 1yr 4.5mil contract for RF. 11.) Sign Mabry, Restovich, Grissom, Hocking, J. Hernandez, Durazo, Higginson, and Branyan to minor league deals and invite to ST. Lineup: C: Barrett 1B Lee 2B: Roberts SS: Nomar/Lugo 3B: Ramirez LF: Murton CF: Michaels/Crawford RF: Wilson SP: Prior, Zambrano, Maddux, Wood/Williams, Williams/Weaver, Willams/Washburn RP: Eyre, Dempster, Williamson, Welly, Rusch, Wuertz BN: Blanco, Cedeno, Hairston, 2 of Mabry/Jose/Branyan/Markakis/Durazo/Restovich/Hocking/Higginson Mid season, I would then trade a performing Nomar/Lugo to a team like the Braves for Francouer. Honestly, this is an incredibly weak bench, but we as a team lack many substantial internal candidates to fill it, and the FA class was weak this season. I preferred to use my farm to upgrade a position where we had essentially no one, and upgrade a position both offensive and defensively.
  20. The biggest problem to this, is we're "So close in the Wild Card" that they won't throw in the towel. I'd trade the following for anyone non-40 man rostered, or a starting CF: Burnitz, Perez, Macias, Hollandsworth, Blanco, most of the Rule V'ers. Aside from Burnitz, I'd be willing to DFA the other 4. Assuming any of those guys would clear waivers, or try to make a trade with the team who would claim them... Then I would activate: Greenberg, Hairston And call up: Cedeno, Grieve, Soto My lineup would look like: RF Lawton/Murton SS Nomar/Cedeno 1B Lee 3B Ramirez LF Murton/Greenberg 2B Walker/Hairston C Barrett/Soto CF Patterson/Anyone else who can play it well defensively Basically I'm saying let the youngsters play this year, and see what we can make up in the offseason. What Dusty will do: Stick Macias and Neifi out there every day. Demote Patterson, and platoon Macias and Hairston in CF. Because those 2 make a lot of money, so they have to play.
  21. Go study. It's probably more enjoyable then this side-show Cub team. I turned to 6 Feet Under. Thanks all. Back to studying. First semester Pharm.D, or Cubs losing? Hmm. I think if i watch any more pitiful Cubs losses this year, I'm gonna need the Pharm.D to pay for the therapy....
  22. Ok, I've searched, but I missed it in here, if it was referred to. And since I'm not watching the game, but saw a little while I was taking a study break, I have to know what are the yellow arm bands for?
  23. That's the only thing they can be thinking, is my guess. During the last Cubs series, the commentators in one of the games said of the Giants; "This is a team built to win now. No future involved." And with Bonds this year, they might have been. But now, it's as if Sabean is still trying to, even though there's no realistic chance they'd win the NL, let alone the WS.
  24. Defensively speaking, DH is the only position Nevin is good at. However, he can do a poor job defensively at 1b, 3b, c, LF and RF. Considering that many of those positions are taken by better players, does this mean there's another move probable from the Rangers, sending an OF for some SP? Or does it mean that Mench/Hidalgo/Delucci are going to get the bulk of the PT in CF until Nix comes back? It's just puzzling to me where he fits in.
