  1. From what I recall of the 3 games I watched when Peoria played West Michigan last year, he also had a rather strong and accurate arm, a great outfield tool. He just lacked some pitch recognition, and tended to overswing. When I saw him, he was in the middle of a "slump" and seemed to be pressing/overswinging. He twirled after a swing and a miss several times over the 3 day span.
  2. A) Dunn B) Teixeira, A. Gonzalez C) Stanton, C. Pena, Kemp D) Ad. Jones, Crawford, Soto, Heyward, Posey WC) PM'd
  3. Yeah, with all the bars in Wrigleyville that would end well....
  4. What about a Fukudome/Diaz platoon, and ship off Colvin for a prospect, or included in a deal for AGonz (with whatever value he has). We'll have Jackson close to ready for 2012, we already have Byrd and Soriano under contract.
  5. There has to be a history/backstory there. I mean, really, what sane, or for that matter Milton Bradley-esque, person reacts like that?
  6. Shouldn't miss any ST time, barring setbacks. Yay to more Hill behind the plate.
  7. Jonathan Mota? The Cubs seem to like his bat, and his lack of position ability is a hinderance, but you don't see them making room for him to get everyday at bats somewhere?
  8. WOW... Ive been following him for quite a while, he's been putting together quite a season! He's one of those easy to like, hard to love prospects to me. I really like the fact that he's hitting .300 with some power in the Midwest League at 19. The reports I've seen have him as a plus defender in RF with a good arm. His numbers are still fairly respectable when neutralized for park and luck. My only problem with him is that I can't get past his lack of walks. He doesn't strike out much, but he walks even less than Junior Lake and Josh Vitters did last year. Now, granted, guys can always improve on those kinds of numbers, but that sort of thing is a pretty big warning flag in my mind. From my very short 3-day perspective on him, he was a relative free swinger, and anything close he was going to try to put into play. I'd liken it to a Randall Simon type approach, not likely to take a walk, but somewhat likely to put balls outside the zone in play. He had a lot of overswing, but IIRC at the point I saw him, he was mired in a slump and pressing.
  9. So, Mota's played for Peoria, Daytona, Tennessee, and Iowa this season. Multiple times for some. Boy's rackin' up the FF miles. Any ideas why?
  10. So, since I'm assuming most pro teams insure the contracts against injury, does that mean we might have some more money to spend next year on another reliever? :P
  11. Rotoworld reports that Fontenot has been traded to the Giants for Evan Crawford (INF). Anyone have details on crawford? Post 2009 interview with Crawford: http://azgiants.com/post/283443604/q-a-with-evan-crawford It looks like he was drafted as a CF, now plays in the infield. He saw (sees?) himself as a base stealer, who takes chances, and a typical leadoff hitter. What's he really like? And projectable or not, isn't a 2009 9th round pick, kinda a good haul for Fontenot? edit: seems that rotoworld has no idea what position he plays. the first newsblurb says INF, the player page says SP, and BR lists his defensive stats as CF. Heh.
  12. I'm not really sure why Suarez was demoted. He's struggled of late but it didn't seem like he was doing so poorly as to get demoted. Rogelino Carmona was demoted from Boise to Mesa as the corresponding move to this. I'm not sure either. He's got some fire and emotion, very similar to Zambrano. I wonder if there was an expression of that, which didn't agree with management.
  13. Just saw this. I'm guessing the 29th was 90's night at Peoria? Thanks Nate for putting it on youtube.
  14. But some of that money was to sabotage their run and make Theriot a starter.
  15. No, because this time it's the abercrombie white kids who are up in arms over this. Just wait though, next year, he'll be one, when he's hitting .240, and OBP of .245, leading off for that lineup. Imagine, a season, where you intentionally walk a pitcher, to get to that next hitter.
  16. It only costs them 6 million to keep him next season. Shouldn't everyone not named Castro and maybe Pence be available off of that roster? Sure, in theory. But for the cost to them next year, they'd be hard pressed this offseason to sign someone who would be as productive for as cheap. Yes, they're not going to win the division next year, but they don't want to set records on futility. If the Yankees offered Montero+Joba, I'm sure they'd take it, but why would someone overpay that much?
  17. Sweet, that means in a few years we'll grossly overrate Castro, leave him at short, and play our best shortstop at 3B! :yahoo:
  18. Can they quit the yo-yo with Mota already? He went up to TN once, and didn't catch, then back down. so why move him again?
  19. They have some top notch ceiling arms in Turner and Oliver, but Aramis isn't going to net them without some serious cash kicked in. We might be able to get Schlereth for Aramis, but Detroit likes having the bullpen flexibility of rotating guys in/out of AAA. Crosby is over a year post TJ, and struggling mightily. Their position players are not much to be excited about. Most of the ones they had of good value were sent in trades. I don't think they're a good fit for us.
  20. Maybe they shift Guillen to third and we trade them Theriot? They've shown interest in him already. Despite what may or may not be true of the pitching there, it seems the media and fans are clamoring more for a bat. ESPN Radio discussed Aramis and Brian Roberts today. The fan response to Aramis was emphatically no, as well as balking at giving up Porcello to acquire him (I agree), but they seemed to think they could pry Roberts out of Baltimore for not much more than a song. What about Cantu? If he's a FA after the season, why doesn't florida see what they can get for him? I would imagine he won't cost as much, and still gives them flexibility to use the good arms in the minors to acquire a bigger bat after the deadline when more teams are out.
  21. And Inge is now out for 4-6 weeks opening a huge hole at 3rd as well. I know the Tigers shed payroll this offseason, so most trades for them will have to add minimal salary. What's out there on the 3B market, Tejada?
  22. Corresponding move: -C Jonathan Mota assigned to Peoria Chiefs from Daytona Cubs
  23. Is it all injury related? I thought he was a good/decent prospect at once, and yes, they do flame out. But was his weakness finally found, or is he looking at lingering injury/recovery related issues? Wish nothing but the best for the kid.
