  1. I can't go o .,. help me ..
  2. Eh, so much for me being sane.
  3. I see a chance that Lieber never pitches in the majors again and I see a chance Lieber makes the Chicago Cubs one nasty freaking nightmare for the Central. Try this: http://mvn.com/mlb-cubs/2008/01/25/bigfoot/ There is no track record for this type of injury in sports. Deal Dempster and keep a watchful on on Leiber in sunny warm Zonna. Based on the little I know :stickman: dance stickman, dance
  4. So we agree that Dempster with closer and starter credentials, not owed a ton and in the last year of his contract can be moved. Cool. Moving Marquis will be difficult but if you move Marquis for a player that is redundant on a another team that's over paid and has a year left ... that's easy. If you ask for nothing in return, if you get a little bit and pickup some of his 2009 salary ... there are ways to open up the roster slot if at a price. I still think the Cubs will keep Lieber in Arizona while they open up in Wrigley in early April. If Lieber is clearly the 4th best, ok, but if not I could see Lieber a mid-late April addition. There is no telling how that foot injury will effect him. He might be done.
  5. We played the lineup game so how about another time waster? I see Z, Lilly, Hill, Marquis and Marshall on opening day. I suspect Lieber will remain behind in Arizona. He projects as a decent middle of the rotation guy. Since there is no pressing need for a fifth starter early it would be wise for a team burned by rushing guys back to be a little patient. I suspect Dempster will be traded during camp. He's not expensive, he's in the last year of his contract and he can start or close. I'm confident that the combination of Wood, Howry and Marmol can replace his pen value. The addition of Leiber makes him redundant. When it's time to bring Lieber up, move Marshall to the pen and waive Cotts. Marquis is a first half pitcher (or has been recently) so we should be able to find a taker for him around the All-Star break. Then we bring up Gallagher. By the end or July the new starting five is: Z, Lilly, Hill, Lieber and Gallagher. If Lieber appears to be done, then I keep Dempster unless Marshall or Gallagher look freaky good. Contract year. :stickman: What a stupid cool smiley.
  6. This is a poll that allows you to vote for your favorites.
  7. 1)Absofreakinlutely and 2)it would all depend on how he views Cedeno. If he thinks Cedeno can translate it into the majors, then possibly. If we're going to get (go for) Greene, why not offer Theriot first and try to keep Cedeno? Heres why. :?

  9. This was done by an ad agency not the Cubs. Agency is Jones Chicago. They should be fired for this campaign. I find the campaign awful but that's just me and I am entitled to my opinion. Awful is a nice way to put it.
  10. Unless Cedeno or Pie rock in Zona or we add a SS or CFer I'd expect to see The Riot #2 on opening day. Parden the interruption, go right back to beating the dead horse.
  11. There was a thread a few days ago about lineup. I put up what I thought we'd see, given what we have and know, from Lou on opening day. I nailed it. Not thrilled but we've got a light hitter (Theriot) and a pair of question marks (Soto and Pie). One thing we know about Lou is that if a change is needed, he'll make one. He isn't insane, he won't run the same thing out day after day hoping for a different result. One thing that's been in the back of my mind since I saw a guy from BP on ESPN. He/they projected Fukudome @ .296/.401 with a pronounced L/R split. If the Cubs find no other top or middle of the lineup left hand hitter I wouldn't be surprised to see Fukudome and Lee flipped in the lineup against RHP. One thing that I wonder about is why is Soriano seen as such a poor leadoff hitter? What's a typical leadoff hitter's OBP, .370? Ok, so Soriano is about .035 off typical. Over the course of a season that's what, 28-30 times on base. When you factor in HRs, 2Bs, SBs and on the bases speed I can live with it just fine. I suppose you can agrue a waste of all that power but with only one legitimate left handed hitter I think you bat him in the middle of the lineup as long as he has decent power, which is Fukudome. As far as Theriot ... He's a steady but unspectacular defender. He's not a bad hitter and his speed compensates for his lack of power. That said, I hope Cedeno is so good in ST that it keeps Lou up nights. How about this lineup for opening day. Fukudome DeRosa Lee Ramirez Soriano Zambrano Soto Pie Theriot
  12. It's a blog/web site started by a few of the guys from Desipio. Whats it stand for/what is the web address? Probably something ironically hip. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Ironicy Hip = Pathetically Desperate. Kind of like thinking of your hand as a girlfriend. I actually think desipio is pretty hilarious. No problem. Just don't be offended when I don't shake your hand.

  14. Based on today, I think the opening day lineup will be: Soriano Theriot Lee Ramirez Fukudome DeRosa Soto Pie The most likely change would be that Pie is a much better option (with a good spring) in the 2 spot than Theriot vs RHP. If Pie can't hit I could see Fukudome in the 3 spot vs RHP. If that were the case, I think I might leave Ramirez cleanup and flip Fukudome with Lee against righties. I'm not comfortable with the thought of Soto and Pie and Theriot in the last three spots in the lineup; although I suppose Lou could hit Zambrano 7  when he starts.
  15. Even if you sign Pierre to a longer deal, it doesn't mean that you can't deal him or Jones after June 15th, I think. If Pierre works and you can live with Jones and Murton has high trade value and Pie is tearing it up, maybe Dusty can't get Jim fired.
  16. that Murton is "potentially" a pretty good stick because Hendry shipped Holly. A similar opportunity existed with Cendeno but Dusty played Perez. Is our team crud because our GM didn't fire our Manager?
  17. Or he didn't see the question, or he would rather write about it in his paper. Trust me, he doesn't login for Q & A. He stopped by a watering hole frequented by Cubs fans. He wants to know what is on our minds. Correct me if I'm wrong. Best columnist of Chicago = Mike Royko. Miles learned from the master. He found the place to go to find what was on the mind of the intelligent rabid Cubs fan's mind. Let him come and go freely. When he has the time, he'll hang.
  18. If Williams goes anywhere I'll be ticked. I really liked the trade that brought him here, and I think he showed a load of potential. I'm not saying he'll ever be a Z or Prior caliber starter, but I could see him being a very solid #3 guy. He's not someone you want to get rid of easily. That's one thing that really irked me about the Rusch signing. I can appreciate Hendry's desire to have a lefty in the rotation, but it just seems that Williams has far more potential (for far less cost) then Rusch. On the flip side, that could potentially make Williams more valuable to another team. I would think that teams like Cinci or Philly could have a lot of interest in a guy like Williams who could be an effective SP for few dollars. Bruce did hint at Abreu and Furcal. I could go for that. Hairston and Patterson could share center with those additions.
  19. You know, this could be a big pickup for the Phillies or the Yanks. I like this, because it tells me Florida was looking for a CF and pitching prospects. Both of which we have a couple extra. (Patterson and assorted pitching prospects) I think this is a good sign for us. I'd send Williams, Novoa, Patterson and a top pitching prospect for Pierre, forget about Furcal and throw stupid money at Giles. thats way way way too much for pierre. no way the cubs give up that for a 1 year rental. Ok, fine. We need to clear 40 man space, we need a place to ditch CPat, we have pitching to burn, we need a leadoff hitter, we need someone to block Pie for a year, we need a speedy OBP guy (.350 will due) ... it all lines up. If we have to give up less, cool. If we got Pierre we could overspend on Giles instead of Fucal. It's like, Pierre and Giles or Wilson and Fucal. Given our 40 man situation, I think a trade and a signing is the way to go. We have arms to burn and a window to work with. Keep Walker, keep Pie and figgin' go for it with Pierre and Giles.

  21. Presently we have: Zambrano Prior Maddux Rusch Williams Dempster Howry Eyre Wuertz Ohman Novoa Williamson and Wood Logically the signing of Eyre put Rusch into the rotation and means Williams is going to be moved in a trade. I'd imagine teams are expressing interest in Wuertz and that Hendry would be willing to part with Novoa. Our pitching staff is set with Z, Prior, Wood, Maddux and Rusch in the rotation and Demp, Howry, Eyre, Wuertz, Ohman, Williamson and TBD in the pen. If Prior and Wood return to form we've got enough in the rotation to be in most games and the pen could be better then the rotation, seriously. As long as Wuertz and Ohman don't flameout, that is potentially a solid pen from the 6th inning on. Prior might be the key. If he and Z can give us 7, and the pen holds up its end, we should be able to keep Wood's pitch count in check. Until Hendry makes his moves I have no idea what the other half looks like. Lee and Ram, cool. What else? My wish list includes a high OBP guy who can motor and a lefthanded stick in the middle of the lineup. I could live with trading for Pierre and signing Giles. Pierre - CF Murton - LF Lee - 1B Giles - RF Ram - 3B Walker - 2B Barrett - C Cedeno - SS We get there by moving Williams, Novoa and Patterson to Florida and throwing our money at Giles and not Fucal. I'm willing to move a top prospect not named Pie to Florida to get that lineup. Pierre is Pie's place holder.
  22. With Lee, Ram, Barrett and Murton pretty much a given, we need a LH stick somewhere. Walker fits top or bottom just fine. If Grudz was quality hitting 6th for the Cards, why not Walk for the Cubs? The whole R/L is over rated anyway. Dernier, Sandberg, Matthews, Moreland, Durham, Cey, Davis, Bowa. That worked out pretty good.
  23. I liked Bruce's article. I think you have to start with what's likely going to be here next year before you make a list. I like the pen. It's a touch weak and a bit iffy but Demp with Wuertz, Novoa and Oman is a great and cost effective start. You'd like another lefty and a quality short man. Dusty's plan for Murton looked real good once Hendry traded Hollandsworth. It's too bad Cedeno got hurt before Dusty's magic could work a second time. I think that means we lack power in left and we're right handed. You've got a kid who could be good as your #1 utility infielder. With Lee, Ramirez, Barrett and Morton pretty much a given we need a quality LH stick that plays short, second, center or right. Brian Giles, Brian Giles. I'd keep Walker and take a run at Furcal. Furcal Walker Lee Ramirez Giles Murton Barrett Patterson Give me Blanco, Harrison and Cedeno on the bench. My math might be a bit fuzzy but I think I still have tons-o-money left over.
  24. Two months ago you could have said 2 mil and a team option with a 500k buyout. The guy has been excellent and seems well suited so I'd think a 2 year with option/vesting incentives at 4, 4, 5 with a 1 buyout would be a steal. He should be able to get endorsement deals in the city doing Harry to make up the slack?!?
