  1. Lee, of course. Now, on my own, I'd go: Lee Pujols ARod Ramirez Soriano :)
  2. Except that he's not playing as a role-player. He's platooning with Jones in CF and getting a bunch of time in RF, which is a role he isn't suited for. 25th man? Fine. Platoon partner? Not fine. Well, I'd argue that he's better suited in CF against a LH than Jones. I see your point, but I don't think he's playing THAT much. He is better suited than Jones against RH's, certainly. Of course, that's not saying much.

  4. .273/.327/.399/.726 is the average line for ALL shortstops, including backups, so those numbers are going to be down a bit from the average starting SS. Theriot is at .282/.349/.370/.719 So yes his OBP is probably a little above average for a starting SS, but his power is definitely lower. All in all, he's not a terrible option with the numbers he's put up this year. Power is very over rated, especially for a number 2 hitter. Power is pretty much never overrated. what it all comes down to is runs scored, not homeruns. True. Runs and outs are the two most important factors in any baseball game. And the way to score more runs is to make fewer outs, hence on-base percentage's value (or out percentage if you flip the number) both as a metric and as an intrinsic part of the game. Unfortunately, without a lot of power, a player's OBP can only get so high -- HR power vastly increases OBP potential because the luck element of BABIP is completely removed on those hits. Furthermore, more power tends to equal more runs -- not as well as OBP, but certainly highly correlative. To put it differently, if you could have two SS's, one who posts a .350/.350 OBP/SLG and one who posts a .350/.400 OBP/SLG, you would choose the latter one, yes? What about a .335/.400 one?
  5. What does this mean? Please, if you want to debate and be heard or taken seriously, use more than one-liners to support your points. I've been watching and reading your posts for a while now and controversy surrounds you in large part because you do not adequately support your contentions.
  6. in one statistic (albeit an important one) How 'bout 6 of 14 in BA okay so now we're delving into the unimportant statistics. Shall we head along to stolen bases? I already did, in terms of unimportant, Henderson waves hello Did you just compare the Riot to Rickey Henderson? No i said SB was important. They're much less important now than they were in Ricky's heyday. The game is much more reliant on power now to advance and score runners. Because we all know the Cubs are leading the league in HR  Which is a solid reason why SS should be upgraded. You weakened your own point -- Theriot's power is irrelevant because he gets on base and creates runs. The Cubs need more power, and SS is a part of that weakness.

  8. Good work folks. Way to listen. And locked.
  9. Everyone: the next snide remark will result in the locking of this thread.
  10. Stop. The. Bickering. This thread will be locked if it doesn't stop right now. I don't care who started it, but you will end it. Or a mod will end it. Thank you.
  11. You can't be serious. This argument is absurd. Do you think that "loser" Sammy Sosa in his prime (1998-2002) would not help this team? If you don't, I'm not sure what to say. How many teams did he help in that period? How many times was LOSER Sammy in the playoffs? You are an...whoops I mean...That post is an idiot. No. No. No. No. This is completely inappropriate, and you darn well know it. Do NOT derail threads with this kid of garbage. You know better. "Bending the rules" so to speak to insult a poster is not acceptable. Consider yourself warned and on seriously thin ice. To the rest of you: there will be precious little tolerance for trollish behavior or for "bending the rules" to call someone a name. That is insane...look at the garbage about Sosa he was spewing in this thread...it was off the wall...hell if I was at Wrigley Field and heard someone spout that crap I would have the same response. I don't care. You know the guidelines. And you broke them. You've shown no remorse over it; rather, you think it's funny. I don't care if you think his post is ridiculous and absurd. Debate the points made using evidence and your own thoughts, without resorting to the not-so-clever "this post is an idiot" garbage. Let me be clear: INSULTS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Clear enough for you?
  12. Yes. You could have. And what occurred in this thread was completely out of line and against the rules of the board. Those who participated know better, and its the kind of behavior that was displayed that has lead to recent crack downs.
  13. Could this be interpreted as attacking the poster (well, all of the posters) and not the post? Oh, and if I had a choice between answering the Santo Williams Banks etc question or just bailing I think I'd vote with my feet as well. probably, but this was used against the same poster which demonstrates the absurdity at how the no attacking rule is interpreted and enforced. I don't know what you are interpreting, but that is clearly attacking the post and not the poster. No. You attacked the poster. Thanks for playing.
  14. Not really. You should read the thread. It's pretty funny. No. It's really not.

  16. I think Detroit will be better. But they have done little to show me that they can do the 2 most important things a winning football team has to do. 1. protect the QB. 2. stop your opponent from scoring at will. The Lions' players think they will win 10 this year. Yes they do. They did add a great talent @ WR. But I'm not sure they improved at really much else, and those other pieces were terrible last year. Can one WR save you from being an otherwise bad team? I'll have to see it before I'll believe it. Not unless he can keep your QB from being a tackling dummy.
  17. That debate wasn't nonsense. This forum allows people to discuss Cubs topics (as well as other topics) and express their opinions on said topics. A poster expressing their opinion is not 'nonsense.' Also, there is no universally accepted definition of just about any subjective topic or phrase. If there were, there would be no need to discuss or debate prospects, players, or teams.
  18. This is an amazing deal. Excellent news. Stunning news, in a way. I love that when the Bears identify a position in need, they go out there and get something done. Watching Walker with Harris and Wale/Brown/Anderson will be nice. If the D-Line can more consistently collapse pockets and apply pressure. Wow. The excitement is building.
  19. why? It's not tryout camp. He failed early and why should he replace anyone? exactly. Murton was brought up to be a pinchhitter and an occassional starter. That is what he should be unless he proves himself differently. Oh god. Compare last season's stats of our entire OF and tell me who the top three are. Until then, try to talk about something else. You may make sense that way. You talk like an ape. I assume you are making a caveman joke, right?
  20. How is this relevant? Right, it isn't. Attack the argument, not the poster. End of story.
  21. Agreed, keep Riot as short. His natural position... Please refrain from making posts like this one. It is clearly a shot at a poster's opinion that you do not agree with, and therefore its out-of-place posting is trolling behavior. Thanks for your attention to this matter.
  22. This thread has the potential to roll downhill fast. Remember, attack the post, not the poster. Debate all you like, folks, but you will keep it civil or there will be consequences. Got it? There will be no further warnings.
  23. Without researching this for a single second, I'll go ahead and say sure. Edit: I just read up on Simion Rice and I'd give him a shot for a decent price. Rice is getting up there in years. Still, I suspect this is more about the contract cost than the injury, and D-Line depth is always useful, so sure.
  24. Morris is definitely available. But no thanks on that.
