I'm interested on how active Hendrys is right now in trying to move Jones.

That's gotta be Lugo because I think Drew is out of their price range now I don't think we know the what the true payroll will be. If the cubs move Ohman and Jones to Cleveland for Westbrook as rumored we could add drew and another free starter like Meche or Lilly.

I'm still holding out hope that we sign Drew and trade Jones, and/or sign Lugo for SS. If we can add one or two of the decent SPs that are available (Padilla, Westbrook), we have a real contender next year. I agree, the lineup still needs a big bat in the 6th spot, Im not holding out any hope for Jones. Im not sold on Westbrook just yet, but depending on what we can get for him I would be ok with that with him in the #4 or #5 spot. The porblem is we need a #2 or #3 type starter and IMO Padilla and Westbrook are not it. The Cubs don't need another bat. They need pitching. Jones and Barrett batting sixth and seventh is perfectly fine. We have Z and then ? for starting pitching. Imagine if Prior and Miller are healthy to join one of the second tier starters we get this offseason along with Z and Hill.

I am gonna be honest I think JD Drew probably won't happen now but I could see the Cubs trading Jones and adding Carlos Lee who will get less money than Drew and might take a discount to play here with bats like Lee and Ramirez and Fonzie.

A lot of posters don't just want to contend we want to win it all. Adding another bat with Fonzie will show that.

now go get another big bat Hendry. Drew, Lee, A,Jones,Wells,Dunn ect will all make nice with Fonzie and Murton in the outfield.

WoW I had listed him as a guy that Hendry should have went after instead of Derosa but now that I see he wants two years and 9 million a season I think Hendrys deal for Derosa keeps looking OK. Not Terrible.

So, we got one out of town source saying the Cubs have "matched" an offer for JD Drew, and then we have a LOCAL writer saying that Drew isn't even on the "front burner yet? Do we as fans, even have a clue what is ACTUALLY going on? I think it's been clear for awhile Fonzie is on the front burner , If Drew is cooking on the side burner too that fine by me . Please let us get both.

I don't but I have trouble with peolpe on message boards who think that the Cubs can go out and find a better deal on the open market right now for a # 3 or 4 in your rotation. Funny though Tim how I have seen quite a few posts with you questioning how smart Hendry is but then go silent when guys like Cruz, Choi, and a host of other Cubs prospects fail badly.

Wins no good, ok...This guy could realisticallly post a below 4.00 ERA, and give you 200+ solid innings. At the cost of Weurtz?, heck I'll drive Mike to O'Hare and stick around to pick up Jake. Westbrook's most similar pitchers according to baseball-reference: 1.) Jason Marquis (no I didn't see this before I made the comparison earlier!) 2.) Joel Piniero (anyone knocking doors down to get him?) And, for the sake of fairness... 3.) Bronson Arroyo (people are going to hang their hats on this one, I know...) Marquis could realistically post an ERA below 4.00 and pitch 200+ solid innings, too. Didn't I see you you slam Hendry for wanting to sign him? You know, the #1 comparable for Westbrook? knocking down doors? If trading from a strength in sending the Indians a guy like Eyre for Westbrook is knocking down doors where in trouble this offseason.

How would the Cubs flip Padilla? Well, he'll have one less year on his deal, which will make him much more "moveable" at that time. Let's say the Cubs sign him to a 3/30 deal (which I don't believe it will take). After this year, he'll only be 2/20 and will be much more attractive when compared to next season's FA's. Kinda like Westbrook looks good to you now. Umm...who cares how he compares to the Cards starters? They got damn lucky to have even made the playoffs with that team, let alone to have won anything. Besides, that still doesn't argue for trading value for someone you can easily replace with a FA signing. The Cardinials got Lucky? Wow for a guy who loves to through out numbers all the sudden the Cards are lucky Like it or not Tim not every starter is gonna throw 95mph and strike a ton of guys out. Westbrook is a guy that can still improve on what he's done in the past and get helped out by moving to the NL like others have in recent past. If the Cubs can get Westbrook for Izzy or Eyre and fill there a hole that way it makes Westbrook even more attractive compared to trucks loads of money crappy pitchers are going to be getting on the open market this winter. Maybe we can get Juan Cruz back? :roll: What starters that have been talked about as trade bait this offseason do you recommend the Cubs go after instead of Westbrook.
