    So the Cub have around 25 million to spend on two starters at least and a center fielder? Man I hope they can dump Izzy and Jones on some other team and Ruschs retires so we can afford both Lugo and Schmidt.

    If the cubs manage to get a center fielder that can add to the already potent lineup and find a way to replace Izzy with a warm body we could get by with just Schmidt. I wouldn't mind if Hendry threw some low-base high incentive deals out there to Marquis and Mulder. Z Schmidt Hill Miller/Prior/Marshall/Marquis/Mulder/Guzman/Mateo/Omalley/Gallegher There's a lot of talent competing for those last two spots but also a lot of injury questions but the Cubs could gamble on these guys instead of throwing a long term deal at a guy like Lilly. With the strength of the pen and the offense Hendry could decide to see if any of those arms get healthy enough by the all-star break to make it a moot point. It won't be like last year where if are pitchers weren't perfect or healthy we would be sunk in the standings in June.

    Not happening with the Cubs. He's played for three big-league managers and none of the three has been fond of him. His most recent manager was in the Cubs system as a coach. I'm sure they still talk. So no, he's not coming here. I used to like you, Bruce... then you made me cry. Bruce any updates on who Hendrys target are for CF? A.Jones?Wells? GMJ? Any chance Carlos Lee takes a discount to come here and Soranio goes to center?

    ouch that sucks to lose a first round pick for Alou but I think he will have a really solid year for the Mets.

    I can see giving thanks for Soriano, and Schmidt. But is Floyd really that important of a peice? No not really I just think it has pretty good chance of getting wrapped up this week. It is nice to see Jim actually sign a good bench player though. Floyd is a power left handed bat off the bench late in the game and can play first base or left field plus DH for the interleague games. Floyd over Mabry is a pretty big upgrade.

    It would be nice to sit down at the table on T-day and know that Fonzie, Schmidt,Floyd were all in the fold aready.

    Floyd makes an attractive option off the bench for protection against one out of the outfielders going down and he can play some first base as well as DH in interleague games. If we can sign him for the bench along with Phil Nevin I would be happy. Also from what I remember Floyd had a pretty good arm out there in the outfield.

    No one wants Lee for CF. I am going under the assumption with what Lou said is that currently Soraino is our right fielder but that can change. Gammons mentions in his article the Cubs don't what spot in the outfield Soranio will play yet.

    I have heard that Dave Roberts is seeking a three year deal.

    I think because Manny only has two years left on his deal it won't be a straight dump, I wonder if the Cubs would be interested in getting back Matt Clement? With all the money the second tier guy are going to get maybe bringing back Matt might not be a bad idea if it lessen the players we would have to send to Boston. I had heard Rumors that Clement doesn't want to reutrn to the nationial league because running the bases was bad for his Asma?

    I hope he's open to a bench job. Jones getting traded anyday now for a SP. You can buy me a beer when it happens. That leaves Soranio and Murton. I don't know if there's enough money to get Drew signed , I think I might be stretching to get Lee here even though his desire to play here is pretty strong.

    I've been saying this for a few days but a Carlos Lee could happen I think he will take a discount and really wants to play for the Cubs and have a chance to stick it to Kenny Williams and stay in the midwest.

    When reports first start to leak about the payroll going up it was around 115-120 which was just short of the luxury tax threshold but now that the threshold has gone up who knows.

    SORIANO IS NOT AN EXTREMELY STRONG OFFENSIVE PLAYER Are me and Nilo the only people that understand that last year was an anomaly? Quoting nonsense like 40-40-40 and RBI is bad enough, but the entire point is that he had a career year and he's very likely not going to do that again. On a tangential note, how does everyone think Soriano's approach is going to age? He doesn't have the most compact swing in the world, which could lead to big problems once he loses a tick of bat speed. Tiger won't your numbers also show that he did all that last year in a pitchers park , while also raising his walk rate?

    I think the next hat to drop is Hendry getting Westbrook for Jones and LHP.

    Says he thinks the Trib dpesn't have a problem handing out these deals because 5 years from now they won't own the Cubs.
