  1. Indeed. It's part of the decline of many world powers in history.
  2. They are winning with pitching, not offense. Can stealing signs while pitching make the batters not get hits?
  3. Reprehensible behavior. They should get whatever is deserved.
  4. It's a heck of a system they have in place. It's just straight business savvy applied to a sports franchise.
  5. That was weird, his hand just stayed in front of the plate for a second while the rest of him slid,
  6. It's only dirty if every slide into second base to break up the throw is dirty. Plus, I'm not sure how much it really affected it....that was a really bad looking throw before Bourjos touched him. Huh? Him sliding into his leg clearly affected the throw. I agree it's a grey area play, kinda dirty but not overly dirty. Fair enough. That's what speed gives the opportunity for, nobody else on the Cardinals gets on the catcher fast enough to even attempt that play.

  8. Heck of a stop by Arrieta. That could have been bad.
  9. Carpenter to miss their series against the Pirates for fatigue and an irregular heartbeat... Fatigued from carrying around the giant horseshoe that's up his ass, I'm sure Hard work is often frowned upon in our culture today. So is driving drunk and killing young women Yep, I agree. Oscar Tavarez was a prim madonna moron who ought not be honored with a patch or anything but else. I'll take that a step further, consuming alcohol at all is an unwise thing to do.
  10. Me? No way guys and gals. I'm very literally what I said I was.
  11. According to the AARP, for whatever reason. http://www.aarp.org/entertainment/arts-leisure/info-03-2011/baseball-quotes.1.html What is your favorite? Mine is this: 5. If a woman has to choose between catching a fly ball and saving an infant's life, she will choose to save the infant's life without even considering if there is a man on base. — Dave Barry

  13. I think every team has an element of stealing signs. But teams adjust as they should and throw them off the scent. what does the bible say about stealing and deceit I'm not sure I'd extend the principle to the game realm. it's all or nothing buddy Says who? You?
  14. I think the police system is pretty corrupt and makes consistent mistakes. I also believe rioting like that is completely asinine. It's crap like that which keeps racism alive and well.
  15. Ok, sorry. I was intending to start a specific dialogue on how opposing fans feel about this type of talk. Such as specifically what he has wrong. I suppose I won't be getting that level of engagement. I'm happy to delete the thread if anyone can tell me how?
  16. You folks seem to enjoy ripping into the Cardinals, that's the main reason I'm posting this. But also, what specific things would you disagree with? (Logic included if time provides) http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/57900/ten-reasons-to-love-this-years-cardinals 7. The bullpen. This group had some issues last year but it's been dominant so far, with a 1.44 ERA, a key reason the Cardinals have the lowest ERA in the majors. Trevor Rosenthal's control still isn't quite what you want, but the closer is walking fewer batters than last year and shutting down opponents like he did back in 2013. Kevin Siegrist looks like the hard-throwing lefty from 2013. To top it off, they even have Mitch Harris, the first Naval Academy player in the majors since 1921. So, basically, if you don't like the Cardinals bullpen, you don't like America.
  17. I think every team has an element of stealing signs. But teams adjust as they should and throw them off the scent. what does the bible say about stealing and deceit I'm not sure I'd extend the principle to the game realm. I'll admit I would prefer honesty. How nice would it be if a guy who knew he was out on a tag play just admitted it and ran off the field? Sure would speed up the game.
  18. The strike zone that night was horrible, both ways. It certainly can be a problem when you have young guys who are trying to learn to hit at the Major League Level, and they are getting a floating strike zone. Good for Maddon for standing up for the young guys. He's a good one. (Just a side note, If Matheny did this he would be labeled a whiner)

  20. Agreed, crap strike 3 call. I'd much rather win more legitimately than umpire error.
  21. why would that be less boring than the DH if you don't like the pitcher not hitting? I don't mind the pitcher batting, in fact; I find it to causes interesting strategic decisions to be made. I'm more suggesting that I'd rather see 8 batters than a guy who only plays half the game while the other hitters have to play both. It seems like (and it is) something you do in an old man softball league. right. so if you like the pitcher batting because it adds strategy in your opinion, why would having only 8 hitters in a lineup really be much better in this regard than having a DH? you're still removing the strategy that you like and having an 8 hitter lineup with no pitcher or DH isn't much different than having a 9 hitter lineup with a DH. I find it more pure. It's still 9 on 9 at that point at any given time.
  22. I love how you guys use so many gifs.

  24. Strictly speaking, Hell will be completely dark. The "outer Darkness" mentioned on Revelations implies complete isolation and darkness. How terrifying does that sound? Also, I actually don't doubt any of those guys who are actually dead are in Hell. So far as I know, none of them were professing Christians. Jack Buck was a nice guy by the time he was old, but he was no Bible believer. How's that for ruining your fun? :-)
