  1. tell that to the royals The Royals ran into a collapsing Oakland team and got a home game in that Wild Card. The Cubs are all but guaranteed to get a good Pittsburgh team in Pittsburgh. If they win that? St. Louis.
  2. It's almost as if they value winning the world series over their prospect ranking. http://i.imgur.com/OVQAtji.jpg It will be awesome when we can lolgiants about their farm system after their fourth world series title. Yes, Mike [expletive] Leake puts them over the top
  3. Umm. The Astros lead their division. Yeah, but they don't know that 2016 is when they are supposed to start trying. The Astros are fighting for a division, the Cubs are fighting for a fluke 1 game playoff against a team they'll probably lose too. Kind of a big difference between those two. Both teams are fighting to get into the playoffs. It's absurd how much you keep talking like it's getting in via winning the division or bust. There's a huge difference between fighting for a division and fighting for the 2nd wild card. Getting the Wild Card is a one game fluke, getting the division guarantees you 3 games.

  6. Giants gave up their #1 prospect Keury Mella as one of the two
  7. What does this say about Joe's talk with Castro ? lol I hope Castro dont lose it and call his "friends" down in the Dominican. http://cdn1.theodysseyonline.com/files/2014/11/14/635515967163120478318194316_michaelscott.gif
  8. Yeah straight up dumping Starlin doesn't seem like something the Cubs would do. I'm sure they're offering him up though.
  9. Mission Impossible?!? Talk about taking one for the team. I was thinking the same thing and then went on to Rotten Tomatoes and it has a 92%! What the [expletive]?
  10. If he had gone 4-for-14, those 6 games they lost by a combined total of 24 runs would have completely flipped. It's not 100% his fault obviously but the Cubs splurged and gave him 8 years and that money to win a World Series. And they ended up with 0 playoff wins.
  11. what an awful post. as though he was somehow singularly responsible for their playoff fates (or lack thereof). and it was far from one of the worst contracts in the last 15 years unless your list is like a million guys (that's hyperbole) long He went 2-14 in 2007 and 1-14 in 2008 in the playoffs with 8 strikeouts so he was no doubt a huge reason.
  12. Oh come on, I liked Alfonso but that contract was one of the worst contracts in the last 15 years no doubt. And it got the Cubs a grand total of 0 playoff wins.
  13. So what? So they rebuild it. We're looking at a team next year that is likely going to be anchored offensively by Rizzo, Bryant, Russell, Schwarber, Soler and Baez next year. Why is such a problem if the farm system slips in the rankings temporarily because they bolstered the team by trading for an impact player or two? I'm not complaining, I'm just saying that the Cubs don't really have the prospects to compete with a deal like the Rangers for Hamels without decimating our system.
  14. What are some of those other splurges. Signing a 32 year old Alfonso Soriano to a 8 year/$136 million deal with 2 bad knees and no experience in the OF comes to mind as one.
  15. Yeah Christ, the goal is to be good the next 10 years and beyond. I'm sure you were a big fan of Jim Hendry's splurges such as giving up Chris Archer for Matt Garza for a team that had no chance of competing.
  16. The well isn't dry at all; that's nonsense. And there's always the risk of ultimately regretting giving up a prospect. That's not a definitive reason in and of itself to not make moves to help the team right way. The Rangers gave up their 4th, 5th, 6th, 17th, 29th prospects and Matt Harrison for Cole Hamels. That's like the Cubs giving up Carl Edwards Jr, Duane Underwood, Albert Almora, Jen Ho Tseng, Jeremy Null, and Clayton Richard on a bigger salary for Hamels. No thanks. I'm a prospect hoarder and I'd do that trade in an instant. Keep in mind, the Rangers have a better system than the Cubs and they were able to keep their top 3 prospects untouchable. The Cubs probably have to add Gleyber in that deal instead of one of those mentioned to equal it.
  17. I wouldn't say we're a top heavy system anymore. That went away once Addison was promoted and will surely go away once Schwarber isn't eligible. Still think they have a deep system but it's no longer top 10 in baseball due to all the promotions.
  18. What they've done over the years is prove they can lose a whole lot of baseball games. http://cdn3.teen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/james-franco-realization.gif
  19. Ehhh Harrison sucks, he's been through 2 major injuries now in 3 seasons and is probably better off retiring. Plus his contract is terrible.

  21. The value of those pieces slightly goes down because you lose a half year of them. Could be the difference between keeping a prospect you like and giving up one you're not so sure on. They're not "losing half a year" if they make a push to improve the team now for a run and they don't win a World Series. And again, one of the main points of rebuilding the farm system was to have assets to move, not to horde them and only move them when the team has a clear and easy path to winning the division. You try to have those assets in part to help you when the team is struggling to hit its potential, whether because they can come up and produce or because you can use some of them to upgrade. They're not "hoarding" their prospects. The majority of their top prospects from a year ago are currently either in the majors or on the verge of being there and the well is kind of dry right now. They have a nice system but they weren't going to beat the Rangers in a Hamels deal with anyone we wouldn't have regretted giving up.
  22. [tweet] [/tweet] Gonna guess Carlos Santana here
