  1. Cool, thanks...hell of a night anyway, he looks like he must be all the way back? We'll see what happens. As I mentioned before, McKeon comes from that old school mindset of driving your pitchers and getting the most out of them possible without babying or coddling them. Guys like Felipe Alou, Frank Robinson, and Dusty Baker are much the same. While this can be effective in riding the hot hand, you also get cases like Chad Fox, Jason Schmidt, and Robb Nen where their arms either explode or the wear and tear causes them to lose their stuff. AJ Burnett's coming off of a serious surgery; this kind of workload can be problematic down the stretch. Remember Chris Carpenter last year?
  2. He was at 124 pitches through 6 IP. Jack McKeon likes to ride his pitchers and everything, but I think even he knows that it'd be lunacy to have a pitcher coming off of Tommy John Surgery pitch some obscene amount.
  3. Yeah, but KC would be smart to trade for Sisco's Rule V rights so they could send him down to AA to retool him as a starter. Otherwise it would be a wasted draft pick IMO. Trading Dubois and Sisco's rights for Affeldt sounds like a decent trade to me. Excuse my first post, but I don't think KC has any intention of trading for Sisco's rights right now, because he is actually helping them at the major league level. They aren't going anywhere, so what is the danger in keeping him on the roster? He's still young, so they can start him in AAA next year if they want to go that route. Also, I don't see the point in acquiring Affeldt. He's had some flashes of competence, but what has he ever done to make himself desirable to get, other than that shiny "veteran" label? Arm troubles and middling performance don't excite me. I don't think he'd be an upgrade anywhere on the roster. I'm sure he's not as good as Rich Hill. Welcome aboard!
  4. FYI to everyone. I'm going to be in and out of the house all day tomorrow. A couple of things are up in the air at the moment, but as things stand right now, I should be back by late Thursday night/early Friday morning to get it all updated. There's an outside chance I might not get things updated until Friday afternoon, but the odds of it happening are really unlikely.

  6. He's also Seattle OF Jeremy Reed's younger brother. Drafted in the third round last year.
  7. Hey Nathan, thanks so much for doing this for us here at NSBB! Sean Gallagher has received much deserved press in the minor league circles of baseball. However, it's pretty rare to hear much about other guys in the Peoria rotation. What kind of future do guys like Grant Johnson, Chris Shaver, Matt Weber, Jesse Estrada, et al. have down the line if things go well for them?
  8. Scott Williamson had an appearance out at Mesa today. His line: 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2/1
  9. Does Peoria have a motorized tarp? I just had an idea for a minor league promotion day.
  10. Didn't one of the Chicago Cubs columnists float the idea that Pie would be called up to lead off a couple of weeks ago during his hot streak?
  11. Thanks a bunch and welcome aboard!
  12. You don't get it. No one is saying Grieve is great, or should start. All he has to do is take a walk to be an improvement over what has been coming off the bench. It's not like anyone on the bench is that much better (aside from Cedeno), particularly Macias. Swapping out Macias for Grieve would be a world of improvement. Grieve is more of a major league player than Macias is or Wilson was, and they were on the team. You are right, the whole season would have been better if Big Ben were here to get a pinch hit walk. Yesterday's game would have been improvement if Grieve had taken Macias' AB with the bases loaded and drawn a walk...
  13. Prior's starting the day game against Ramirez. Williams gets the nightcap against Smoltz.
  14. And in Dusty's mind, Cedeno doesn't exist. "I thought Jim just got me another dude to run my errands, lose at Risk to Darren, and get me snacks and coffee."
  15. That happened last season. We all saw what happened with the malcontents.
  16. This is a .500 team with an average manager. Get me some one better than average.
  17. This has to be the worst lineup I've seen since 2002. This is even worse than the days in 2003 when Lenny Harris would lead off and Paul Bako was catching.
  18. I thought I was kidding around about Dusty wanting to get fired all those months ago. Oh how right I was.
  19. Better a country club than a nuthouse.
  20. Dopirak also gets a blurb: Link
  21. Hey Ron, thanks for taking questions. How's Felix Pie doing? How much more time does he need before he's back at 100%? Secondly, how has Carlos Marmol looked out there? The Cubs calling him up to AA raised some eyebrows around here, but hopefully this move is for the best. Thanks again!
  22. I remember Tim debating whether or not he'd trade Zambrano for Abreu straight up. That would be an interesting deal, no? Still, if Abreu's out there, I'd pretty much sell the farm for him.
