    I couldn't stand Dusty Baker as Cubs manager for many reasons, but I'll always treasure the moment he got into a screaming match with TLR from dugout to dugout and yelled at TLR, "horsefeathers YOU!" He got to live the dream that day.

    I'm guessing this means we likely won't be seeing the Cubs meaningfully pursue Baez, Rizzo, or Bryant in the offseason...or any other top of the line free agent, for that matter. Based on the team's current composition and Jed's comments, I do anticipate this team being active in the offseason, but more in the mid-range/bargain bin area. However, I don't see this team being meaningfully competitive next year without at least adding a top of the rotation starter, which means I'm probably not going to be too thrilled with this team come Opening Day 2022.

    Where does everyone fall in terms of the viability of Alzolay, Steele, and Thompson in next season's rotation? I figure Hendricks and Mills are both locks (for better and worse), but I'm kind of squishy on everyone else, especially since we'll likely see something like a 150 IP limit for Alzolay and 120 IP for Steele and/or Thompson based on their usage and development. I'd love to see the Cubs get at least two starters, preferably one ace and one mid-level guy, in the offseason, but I'm wondering if the front office will be irrationally optimistic about those three guys.

    The lakefront restrictions are a great thing. I'd be more in favor of those restrictions if they were applied evenly across the Chicagoland area, but it was so dumb to see people throw temper tantrums over the Lucas Museum when north Sheridan road is dotted with some of the ugliest horsefeathering high rise condominiums I've ever seen directly on the lakefront.

    In a perfect world, I think that'd be great, but we all remember what happened with the Lucas Museum.

    Mulling things over a bit, does anyone expect the City of Chicago to actually find a replacement tenant for the Bears once they skip town in a few years? The Chicago Fire and concerts are nice, but the stadium is borderline unusable 6 months out of the year for non-football events. Something tells me that maintenance and upkeep fees for the stadium are going to be a serious budgetary issue for the City of Chicago a decade from now. The ridiculous lakefront development restrictions will also be a huge hinderance in getting the property sold if the City went that route, too. I almost feel like the City would be best off in the long run just demolishing the stadium and using the colonnades as part of an event space or museum of some sort, while turning the parking lots and stadium area into parkland.

    If there's enough space(IIRC there's not a ton but it's been 6 years since I lived in that area), you'd still need to get some more events/tenants to justify that, right? 10 Bears games a year wouldn't sustain those businesses I would think, and Arlington Park was a higher foot traffic baseline than an empty lot. There have been discussions about Cook County reorganizing/modernizing the court system and there's a large and seriously aging facility (District 3, Rolling Meadows) located directly across the street from the racetrack on Euclid. I'm wondering if the carrot to get Cook County funding would involve some sort of an arrangement where the developer would acquire that land and include an arrangement to build a new courthouse and related facilities. Not saying it will or won't happen, but if a stadium project and related developments are going up at Arlington, that will create an utter nightmare for the local court system in terms of access and availability.

    I really think this is all being done by the NFL. The McCaskeys don't have the money to build a new stadium and the team is being kept in Cook County, so it's not like the Bears represent a new source of revenue for Illinois or Cook County. To me, this is a deal that's being put in place to drive up the team's value, since it means any new ownership group taking over the Bears will have their own massive vacant lot to build whatever domed shrine to capitalism their hearts may desire. I think we see the team sold within two years of this purchase deal getting finalized.

    I'm going to engage in a thought experiment. Please indulge me: Yep. That checks out. By the way, this isn't a comparison between Trubisky and Fields. However, this feels like a continuation of Nagy's failures to adapt to his QB's strengths and weaknesses.

    I like the idea of bringing Javy back on a 1-2 year prove it deal, but anything more than that makes me leery.

    I'm pretty much at the point of blaming Addison Russell for a good chunk of this team's downfall, both because he was an abusive piece of horsefeathers and also because his production fell off a cliff.

    If you squint, you can see a playoff caliber bullpen and lineup in 2022 with the right moves and luck in the form of health, rebounds, and callups. Getting one of the top tier SS free agents would allow Nico to take on a Ben Zobrist super utility type role with Madrigal holding down 2B. Things could break the wrong way, but even without a big signing or trade for the lineup, there is enough there to make for a somewhat intriguing 2014-type season. However, I think the rotation is what will hold everything back in 2022, barring some big moves. I don't think the Cubs can rely on Alzolay, Steele, and Thompson to provide more than 100 IP each, much less 100 good quality innings. I'd be okay with them duking it out for the 4th/5th starter roles, but not 2nd/3rd/4th starter. The Cubs need to make a splash in the offseason in the rotation if they want any hope of being competitive in 2022, so we'll see...

    I'm pretty much there with the Cubs' QO guys. People might get upset if the Cubs fail to trade Bryant/Rizzo/Baez, but it looks like baseball is in a buyers' market for position players at the moment and the Cubs might benefit from just pocketing the extra picks and expanding their pool money in a 2022 draft that apparently will be loaded, rather than taking in a bunch of middling prospects who might end up as as bench jockeys or mediocre relievers.

    I get the feeling that the Darvish trade would have looked a heck of a lot better if there had been a full 2020 season in the minors. Preciado is probably the most exciting prospect in the organization right now because he's so young and it looks like he is just scratching the surface of his talent. It's easy to dream on him. Caissie seems to fit the mold of hitters this organization has a knack for developing. It's easy to imagine both of them as Top 100 prospects by this point next season.

    I'm kind of sort of on-board the "Trade Davies" train. There's a possibility the Cubs hit on a lottery ticket or two for him and every team seems to be scrambling for innings from starters going down the stretch, but man, this rotation is already butt and trading Davies will just make it even worse.
