    Actually, that is exactly what happens a good amount of the time. The thing about college players is that they cannot go back to college basketball if they hire an agent. The moment they hire an agent, it doesn't matter, they cannot go back to college ball. Secondly, my knowledge of this particular rule might be a bit fuzzy, but I remember a number of players who have declared for the draft without hiring an agent just to see where they'd be taken. My memory is that, if they get drafted, but do not like where they were drafted for whatever reason, they can simply go back to college as long as they never hired an agent. Finally, what Yi is doing is not unprecedented. Tiago Splitter was drafted by the Orlando Magic in 2005, but decided instead to stay in Europe and play without signing a contract with the Magic. He re-entered the draft and was selected by the Spurs, although it's unknown if he will sign with them.

    I'd dispute that this phrase could be used to describe roughly 90% of the talking heads on ESPN.

    Considering he's relatively new to the position, I think it's reasonable to expect his defense won't be all that good at this stage in his career. If his defense looks questionable two to three years from now, I'll be worried.

    Psh, quitting not even two months after I handed him the reins. What a chump! :P I'll probably be back in action doing these come August 15th or 16, by the way. I look forward to it!

    So that means the Cubs didn't actually take on any money whatsoever in this series of catcher trades. They saved about .97 million from Barrett, paid approximately 70K to Bowen for his month, and then are going to pay the remaining 900K in savings they got to Kendall. Go figure. So, can the Cubs still add salary?

    I'm going to bed now. If I wake up in the morning and Hendry indeed traded Marshall for Kendall, I might very well fly back home just to find Hendry and beat him to a pulp.

    As much as flak Hendry gets, he's not dumb enough to trade Sean Marshall for Jason Kendall. Cripes, there's no one who can take Marshall's spot in the rotation right away who is available save for the usual castoffs (Walrond, O'Malley, etc). Trading Marshall for Kendall would be monumentally dumb.

    Yeah, it's not exactly like the Cubs have anyone ready to step up and fill in for Marshall at the moment. Gallagher's being bounced around and Mateo's still rehabbing.

    Kid's got serious heat.... Just hoping he'll start walking some guys. He's my favorite young pitcher in baseball. THAT is how you use mechanics to get everything you can out of your body! Kid's going to be absolutely nasty once he figures things out. He and Cain will make quite the 1-2 punch come 2009.

    no bats or starting pitchers in that group Matt Morris is heavily rumored to be on the way out. Off the top of my head, some other SPs who might be available include Kyle Lohse, Bronson Arroyo, Roy Oswalt, and Jose Contreras.
