  2. Shafer has also had a very nice day. Hopefully those 7 Ks weren't the result of smoke and mirrors.
  3. Wind blowing in and the hitters apparently not being big fans of going the other way on Nibbler.
  4. Dexter Fowler has a crooked cap in his gameday picture. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.
  5. Gaub and Stevens could be decent relievers. Archer has some promise, but he's got control problems and is a long ways away from being a contributor in the majors.
  6. Miles followed by Gathright. That's a hell of a one-two punch.
  7. Too bad Lou doesn't lou doesn't really have a choice. the next option for a lefthanded pitcher beyond cotts is j.r. mathes or the wrong papelbon. Jason Waddell demands recognition! Also, we have some decent lefties in AA who might be ready come mid-summer.
  8. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather not have Cedeno back and I think retaining DeRosa would have been the right move for the Cubs. But, I'm just setting the record straight re: Miles versus Cedeno.
  9. Neal Cotts resembles Thich Quang Duc more and more every day.
  10. Cedeno is garbage with an upside. Miles is just plain garbage. Upside? Yeah right. I thought the kid had potential but he's proven to be a miserable hitter. I hate Miles but I'm also glad Cedeno is gone. Considering his age, his tools, and his positive production (albeit in limited circumstances), he still has a ceiling. His likelihood of reaching that ceiling is fairly low, but that likelihood still exists.
  11. Looked great and was hitting his spots, but for whatever reason, the Rockies were able to sit on their pitches and make Harden pay.

  13. Minimal; this is Marquis we're talking about here.
  14. I'm not a huge fan of the hit and run either. But our minds are always going to be conditioned against the hit and run because we remember when people are gunned out much more than when either the steal is successful or the hitter hits a ground ball that becomes 1 out instead of 2. Unfortunately we'd have to track each result by ourselves. My guess it is overall a negative thing but much closer than people think. I believe BP or one of the SABR people did exactly that and the results were decidedly negative. I'll do some digging around online to see if I can find it...
  15. It's not a bad thing to encourage him to swing the bat in certain circumstances. It's a bad thing to force him to swing at a bad pitch because the runners are going and they're not going at full speed. It's a bad thing to not send the runners at full speed because they can be gunned down if Lee doesn't make contact.
  16. With Lee hitting and his propensity to hit in Dp's last year I dont blame Lou. That only encourages him to swing at bad pitches. Frankly, part of the reason Lee had so many freaking DPs last year was because he'd be up with a runner on first and Lou would stupidly call for a hit and run. What was his excuse this time? That was a driveable pitch and he watched it go by WHILE the runner was running. He should have swung at the pitch, but I don't think Lou should have sent the runners there.
