  1. It's only LOL if you're an Obama sycophant that can't admit when mistakes are made. It's the US president doing something unprecedented and getting egg on his face. It doesn't reflect poorly on him as a person, but it's a miscalculation by the White House and a waste of political capital. i think it's just unprecedented because the olympics have become massive business and now heads of state attend all the time. plus he's from chicago and there was extra pressure on him to attend; if he didn't go and chicago was voted out on the first ballot people (republican) would bitch that the city's most famous son wouldn't even take a day out of his schedule to support his city, while the other heads of state supported their nation, and the slight cost america the games. Yeah, I think the only way the whole situation doesn't spin negatively on Obama in some way would have been if he didn't go and Chicago won the bid anyway. Fox News would have found a way, rest assured.

I think this would quickly blow over for him, depending on how much the Rush/Oreilly/Beck/Hannity crowd tries to keep it alive articifically. It was a no-win situation for Obama if Chicago was not going to get the Olympics. If he stuck to the original plan and only sent Michelle Obama over with Oprah, he would have gotten flack for not going over there personally to make a pitch. This was going to reflect poorly on him no matter what.
  3. I'm willing to lay down 4-1 odds on a prominent athlete getting kidnapped and held for ransom happening during the 2016 games.
  4. While stealing signs isn't explicitly against the rules, some instances of stealing signs have been found to be against Rule 21 When this rule has been applied to sign stealing, it's usually been applied to situations where outside equipment (binoculars, cameras, etc) have been used. I don't think it's ever been officially applied in a situation like this.
  5. That's...not exactly a glowing review of Vitters' future.
  6. A .291/.359/.402 line isn't hitting left handers? What? Pretty disappointing to see Callis swing and miss on that. My guess is they looked at it as his 3rd year and did little research on him. I mean, I get that Burke has a power dropoff against LHPs, but that's different from saying he can't hit them.

  8. What a well crafted, articulate question :) He's just repeating what has been said around this website since Vitters came onto the scene with Peoria. :D
  9. Huh, apparently the MWL is expanding to 16 teams next season. A quick Google search has one team in Ohio and the other out in Bowling Green, KY.
  10. I really liked Brett Jackson when I saw him, but really? Really?
  11. And awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay we go. Jackson over Vitters would be perplexing, to put it mildly.
  12. No kidding. Not really, the Twins were always mentioned as the second most interested team behind the Pirates. But they've never been big spenders in the international market, either.
  13. Good to hear Jung didn't quit baseball.
  14. I'll be surprised if Flaherty doesn't make the list.
  15. That would be me. Also:
  16. I have a strange feeling BA will be heaping tons of praise on Starlin Castro and Hak-Ju Lee over the coming days. Both strike me as the kinds of guys BA writers tend to fall in love with (international signings, young, tools out the wazoo, good defensive reputations, etc.). I think Starlin has a very good chance to be a top 50 prospect for BA. I personally don't think he's that good, but BA loves toolsy shortstops who are young for their league. Last year Andrus was #37, and he put up similar numbers, although he was in AA the entire year compared to Castro. And tools-wise, they're pretty similar, with a little bit of an speed/defensive edge to Andrus and a little bit of a power edge to Castro. Also Alcides Escobar was #19, and he's the worst offensively of the 3 and the oldest. Although that might not be a fair comparison since apparently Escobar is a crazy good defensive shortstop. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised to see them name Castro the Cubs' top prospect with Hak-Ju Lee cracking their Top 100 and getting the #3 spot in the Cubs' rankings.

  18. I love 10am West Coast games :D This is how Bears football is supposed to be. Wake up hungover, turn the TV on, and have the Bears game starting. I'm already awake. It's just that Sunday is our designated pickup basketball morning. We don't finish till 11 so I generally get in with a few minutes left in the first half. You need to invest in DVR.
  19. Actually, from a statistical standpoint, QB rating is pretty poor when used on its own to evaluate how good a QB is. There are a lot of holes in its calculation.
